i got my c&d issue on friday and thought the exterior styling was a little more conservative than that of drawings i'd seen recently. finally, the wing-shaped grille is starting to grow on me. i think me likey. now if only, they'd develop to larger engine to handle my towing needs, i could replace the jeep with it and have an all-subaru fleet.

shelfy 01-03-2005 03:59 PM

however, taking a closer look at the interior, i think i may not have adequate knee room. guess i'll have to find out when they hit showrooms.

it looks kinda SVX-like. i know my larger passengers hate the knee-room in the SVX, although the driver's side seems to have a little more than the passenger side.

Nissan Muran meets Volkswagen Touareg meets Infiniti FX meets Luxus RX meets BMW X3/5 meets......
(well you get the point) and all this = Yuck!
(although I reserve the right to change my mind when I see one in person!)

Subafreak 01-03-2005 06:13 PM

Looks better than that Saturn minivan thing.

It's not to bad looking but it looks like it will seat 7 people and non of their luggage:confused: Have to see one in person to decide overall but as far as looks I wouldn't go so far as to call it ugly.

i guess what i meant was, "THE LOWER PART OF THE DASH looks SVX-like."

i can't say i like the looks, but i was expecting worse.

Great Link Andy! :p

Funny thing is, indivdualy I kinda like most of the vehicles I mentioned in my first post, but when you smash them all together to make this thing, I don't like it. I certinaly doesn't look like something I would have expected from Subaru, The should have just "Supersized" the Forster! :D

Mr. Pockets 01-04-2005 10:07 AM

Subaru has always wanted to move more mainstream. Maybe this will be te car to do it for them, I don't know. Either way, I have little use for this particular car, so there's not much of a point in me taking too much time out of my day to form an opinion.

But maybe there's room in the Murano / FX market for somethng like this. It'll be interesting to see.

Weebitob 01-06-2005 01:20 AM

I don't know if it is just me but the B9x has somewhat of an oldschool look you can associate with the Japanese hatches and wagons of the 1980s not to mention early to mid 90s, like the Honda City, Civic AWD wagon or Subaru Rex.

Perhaps I think that way because the Tribeca looks sort of like a sleakened Subaru Rex or Vivio with a grill and headlight change. Also you can say its an upsized version of the Subaru R2 or visa versa.

the civic had an awd wagon?

Weren't they part-time 4WD, not AWD?

Ciscokid 01-06-2005 03:01 PM

I like the styling...not too sure about the interior.

It does look like leg and knee room would be a bit inadequate but pics never do anything justice.

I can't wait to see one up close

HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the original concept.

Do you remember everyone hurling over that thing and wondering if it would change?

I approve.

What do you see in common between all of those cars?
http://www.seat.com/su/com/altea/sit...rior/main.html
http://www.alfa-romeo.com/giuliettasprint.htm
http://www.alfa-romeo.com/147_1.htm
http://www.alfa-romeo.com/nuvola.htm

so I give this car an F for design, because sure it is a european one and specifically Italian and more specifically done for Alfa Romeo...
What a shame ! Subaru is now buying designs.
Pls it is very ugly, except for the interior, this design should be for the early 1990's rather for the mid 2000's:(

SilverSpear 01-07-2005 05:38 AM

mmm, it seems they didn't work, the links, ok go to:
www.seat.com and
www.alfa-romeo.com
and check the showroom of each !!!

Of course it looks Italian with that goofy grill, Suby went and hired Alfa's design boss. Why don't we start calling our sedans 156's. It's a mistake. My 2 cents.

do you have a problem with italians?!? :D

SilverSpear 01-11-2005 12:33 AM

it's not like a problem with the italians, personally i love italian babes ;) :D but the thing is I hate imitations. if you consider the Porsche Cayenne, it has an exclusive design. later came the VW... but the subaru B9 it has an Italian look rather than Japanese... same as the new SVX concept? (what is it called the new SVX?)

Weebitob 01-12-2005 07:31 PM

I can't say it enough, Subaru hired Pinnifarina who are not only an Italian design group but also as of late have gotten into the habit of brandishing every grill as a design statement that says "We did this," like they are using their product statement to expect cars to be sold. However, the Tribeca at least toned down the beastial grill a bit, for a more clean and industrial look. If you cover the grill it looks like a rounded Forester, at least from the side. Of course you have a preference for liking something or not. But be mindful that Subaru tried to make their best means possible to alter the design as much as possible so it doesn't show that Pinnifarina finesseas much, as much as I wish Subaru rather hired ITALdesign.

Anyway the new sports car concept and probable SVX succesor is the B11S.

i thought this was the work of former Alfa Romeo designer and newly appointed head of Subaru Design, Andreas Zapatinas.

Why does everyone say the B11S is the new SVX or its succesor?

Weebitob 01-12-2005 08:26 PM

Your're right, it is just I got the whole misconception that because he worked for Pininfarina I assumed that they were in on this as well, my mistake. I think it is Andreas Zapatinas that popularized the whole side vent and center grill thing, he is also Greek not Italian. Also you should read a bit of this article. I know Subaru wants a design change but do they have to be so forcefu and fire the guy who designed the original Legacy.:(

if they were smart, Zapatinas would get the axe as well. :D
