auto window feature
Any helpful hints for hopeful heroes on this feature? The manual says to just push the button a little harder but i tried that and had no luck. I'm sure it's pilot error and not something wrong with the car. Any ideas? Thanks.

mmm, you need either to replace the master window switches or dismantle it and see where the problem lies...

Be careful not to push too hard on the button. You may break the screw that holds the switch assembly to the underside of the door panel......I've done that to my legacy about 3 times and it's a pain to fix.
The button should kind of click as you push it in for the auto down feature to work. If no click feel, then you need new switch. |
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but 95 doesn't have auto up. Either that or it's been switched with one that doesn't have it. On switches with no auto up there is a tab that prevents the click.

Auto Up was only available on the 92's. All other years were Auto Down only. Either way the feature works the same: use a little force on the switch and the window will move as long as you keep your finger on the switch. Move the switch until you feel a "click", and the window will move even after you take your finger away. Dave |
This is interesting. I have two '92 SVX's, both JDM. But in neither of them does the auto feature work. I have taken both door panels off and cannot see anything wrong with the switches, so I have just accepted that this is a mystery!

I think its stops working after alot of use. My 93 also had the auto up and down feature which has never worked up untill i bought a rebuilt window switch cluster from another member. Now i have auto up and down. :)

Auto-up works on my driver's side, but not auto-down. No doubt the switch is simply worn.
I believe auto-up was discontinued because of injuries (or injury potential) to kids. dcb |
but...
what if you got a 92' button cluster for your later model year SVX... could your non auto-up become auto up with a new switch? |
It will work with a new switch. Is the old switch loose to the touch? It may help the old switch if you also apply slight downward pressure on the back of the switch while pulling up on the front of the switch.

yeah... i have it on my 96 but we decided that it had just been swapped from a 92. My mom was kinda pissed seeing as how she spent twice as much on her SVX and didn't have the feature... i opened hers up to see what was wrong, saw the little "notch" that prevents the button from being pulled back as far, however this is doesn't do anything. The later models are still missing a solenoid or whatever it needs.

My passenger side up or down doesn't work :(
Only works with using the switch for the pass. side found on the driver's side switch cluster  :( Anyone have a spare pass. side switch?? |
mine works off and on. i have never really felt for a click so maybe i will have to check that out to figure it out for sure.

My Wife said to me it doesn't work in AUTO she has been driving the car for 10 years I just got hold of it after she purchased her new Acura TL and I sold my 91 turbo 5 speed. I pushed on the button down it went I pulled up on the button and up it came she said Ill be, never worked for me. I guess soemtimes they stick.

John,
Your wife probably didn't pull all the way up on the button (or push down all the way), as when you lift it "catches" a little before going into the auto-up feature, same on the way down (especialy if it hasn't been used much) |
I'm now completely baffled. Both of my JDM 1992 models clearly have 'Auto' marked on the driver's window. Yet neither of them work. In fact, I can't even feel what I would call a second indent to the switch which suggested that it might have worked at some time. You pull the switch up and the window goes up, but there's no suggestion that you can pull it further!

I forgot I had auto up and down because I never use it, and nearly chopped my arm off yesterday :D
Take your switch apart and look at it. Maybe there's a bad or loose contact. |

I had an unexpected auto down the other day in mine. Stupid cable broke.

Auto up and down is indeed there, and it's simpler then all of you are making it out to be.
On my 92 I never could get it to work and one day I was poking around with the switch cluster taken apart. Using a screwdriver in the switch'es little slot, I found that auto up AND down do indeed exist, but the switch has a limited range of motion incapable of activating it. My solution: Increase the range of motion! I took a file to both sides of the rocker switch and removed large ammounts of plastic. Then it worked like a dream. Not sure if it's only for 92s or all of them. Then my car got destroyed and I sold the switches to soobiesvx93 and I have yet to do this mod to my new car. You should PM him and find out if he's still happy with it. |
I have a 92 and my switch broke right off. I had auto up and down. I bought a switch from a 94 and no auto up or down. I put the two side by side and the 94 has tabs that limit the range of motion. So naturally I filed off the tabs and still no auto up or down. I ended up using the switches from the 94 and the mechanicals from the 94, now I have auto up & down.
