svxcess 07-23-2002 05:58 PM

The geographic center of the 50 United States is Castle Point, South Dakota.

The geographic center of the 48 contiguous states is on a hog farm in Lebanon, Kansas

This is not a joke. Investigated Google and found the answer

Hey John, look up where the center of the U.S. would be based on POPULATION...

Being completely unbiased(yea right) I think we should have the 15th anniv. meet in Carlisle Pennsylvania :D We could have it at the same time of the Import show that we have. Imagine all the moddified import car owners seeing 70+ SVX rolling on by. The Subaru parking area on the fairgrounds would be huge!!!!

:D B.C. :D

SVXphile 07-24-2002 04:15 PM

Center of Population

O.K...O.K....I found it. The center of U.S. population is...

Mean Population Center of the United States
In 1990: 37°52' North, 91°13' West - 10 miles southeast of Steelville, Crawford County, Missouri

....that's only 368 miles southwest from Lafayette.

...that's pretty close to Carlisle isn't it?

Don

Gone Fishing..

Did you hear??
Subaru execs heard about our 15th anniv meet and are planning to unveil the new SVX at our meet. The best news is since we had so many probelms with our trannys they are going to let us buy a new SVX for half the suggested retail ....

(waiting to see if anyone bites...)

benebob 07-26-2002 06:56 AM

Another vote for Carlisle!!!

I was at this May's Import meet and was discusted by some of the cars there! The Saab club showed up with 50 or so of their "colector" 9000s and 900s (no there wasn't a single one from the 99 era although there were a few earlier models). Not a single Subie there (in the show at least). I was thinking of taking my Brat next year- at least I could run over a Saab or two. It would be wild to see a herd of SVXs hogging up the Saab space. HEE- HEE. Besides, I think they have a drag strip there for the straight line speed demons among us.

My only question is what happened to the Triumphs, MGs Loti and TVRs that made this show great? $6 a person is a rip off to see Saabs.

Me too. Then, I noticed the thread was started in the bronze age.
Anybody seen Bill?

Ron.

The 15th Anniversary meet will be in 2007. That's only about 3 yrs. away. Maybe we should get started. Forget Gunma....think Cherry Hill, NJ.

red95svx 06-30-2004 06:16 AM

Cherry Hill is a great idea!

Bit of a hike for us midwesterners and quite the trip for westerners, but I like it!

I missed the last one because I was just a lurker at the time, but I will not miss this one.

deruvian 06-30-2004 02:11 PM

I think it would be fair to everyone to have it somewhere near the center of the contiguous U.S. I wouldn't expect any of us Westerners to drive over 3000 miles one-way for a meet.

HighwayUFO 06-30-2004 02:18 PM

I agree with Deruvian. People west of the Mississippi would be rather turned off to drive that far for a meet( I understand that we ARE talking about a really big thing here), especially when some people would have to go out of thier way at all. I am all for the 15th Anniversary Meet but would like to see the meet be somewhere central, so everyone has an equal chance of getting there.

Keith

mohrds 06-30-2004 02:39 PM

I agree it should be centralized. Topeka, Kansas and Lincoln, Nebraska are larger cities in the center of the contiguous states.

I like the sentimental value of Cherry Hill, but its not logistically possible to have a country wide meet there with good attendance.

Doug

Aredubjay 06-30-2004 03:12 PM

According to Google (which I love FAR more than either Mohrds or Mr. Pockets), the exact center of the U.S. is four miles west of Lebanon, KS.

My wife was born in Lincoln, NE. She has a sister in Kearney and other family in Omaha and surrounds. Lincoln would be near perfect for us. :)

ensteele 06-30-2004 04:59 PM

Speaking of self centered - oh, I mean centralized, that would be a little better. :)

You should know that Keith!!! ;)

But looks aside,

I would do Nebraska... that's only one and a half states away from us here in salt lake...

Alycone 06-30-2004 10:54 PM

Whats in Nebraska? Well, I think carhenge is there. :p

Alycone 06-30-2004 10:55 PM

Yup, it is:

I have some ideas about the 15th Anniv. SVX Meet as follows:
1) I don't want to be the chief organizer "rabel rouser" for this meet like I did on the 10th Anniv. Meet. It is just too much for one or two people (thanks again Michelle). I think we should get a staff (commitee) together to organize and run this thing.
2) Since this is a major North American SVX Meet, it should be held somewhere in the midwest, preferably near a city; so KC sounds good.
3) This time we should hold it in early spring (cancel Reading for 2007) or fall. Mid summer is just way too hot in the mid west.
4) We should have SVXers who live in the meet locale on the organizing staff. They are more familar with the area and know the venues (ie: hotels, eateries, points of interest) first hand.

I will be happy to help, but there is alot going on in our lives right now.

To start the ball rolling, I'll start a sign-up list:

15th ANNIVERSARY SVX MEET

1) Larry III & The Beautiful Naiguesser (Rosie & Larry Singer)

PS: Pearlwhites, I'm alive and well and living in ingonito!!:D :D

Hey, that's why we have an SVX:p

I really think we should try to tie into another big meet. A scenic cruise would by nice, like the Cabot Trail or Skyline Route. Perhaps we should look through the old shows of My Clasic Car.
