Jae 2008

Guys and Girls

Here is the first (well actually the second, but the first wasn't very interesting..........) communication from the JAE organisers.

Looks like another change of venue in response to problems with the Peterborough site........... and the date is now the last weekend in August.

Anyway, as there was some critisism of the quality of the event last year, and some discussion as to whether we'd attend as SVX World Network again this year, I'll post this first message up for comment and see what interest drops out.

Usual request to the mods, Joe can we have this as a sticky please ??

Phil.

Hello,

Traditionally JAE has always been the start of the Summer Holidays and, despite thunder storms, floods and even a hurricane we have stuck to that date and accommodated TOTB by moving forward. Looking at the weather (this is the UK after all!) maybe July is never the right time? But we wanted it to be at a time when as many people could find the time and also when the whole family could come along – if they wanted!

So, we have after much consideration agreed to move it to the last weekend of August. Not only is this better weather but its still school holiday time and should give us a much better event to round off the Summer. In addition to moving to the weekend of 29-31 August the event just got bigger and is now 3 DAYS of JAE!!! Thursday is now set up day and the activities start in earnest on Friday morning for those that wish to make it a full weekend away. We hope you like it!

JAE at Billing was fine at that time but JAE out-grew the location which is when we moved to Peterborough. This was a step in the right direction as it gave us a much bigger venue to allow in all the clubs who wanted to come to JAE but in moving to Peterborough we lost some of what made JAE so special so the task was on to find the perfect venue which would give the sparkle back to JAE and worked on the overall atmosphere of the event which we all know makes it different from any other in the year.

We have now found JAE's new permanent home and confirmed the venue and dates for the next 3 years.

JAE's new permanent home for 2008 and beyond will be at Mersea Island on the East Coast.

The show venue is over 60 acres and has a huge amount of potential for us, already catering for club and enthusiast shows all year round and with some amazing facilities on site - we're amazed we managed to miss it previously as its perfect for JAE! Pictures will be posted up on the jae website and on facebook (links at the bottom) but, for now, let me just share with you SOME what we have to offer at JAE's new home:

Loads of parking on a totally secure site

Full Bar and off- sales

Japanese themed bar and special hot and cold SAKE bar

Large function room with permanent DJ facilities and stage (and a band!!!)

Indoor trade area as well as outdoor pitches

Speedboat with inflatable banana ride experiences from the Beach
Yes, you read right - a beach!! - which is part of the site

Log cabins for families and groups with electric and heating as well as the vast camping areas as usual

Full food village as well as a huge canteen which will be providing not only dinner for those who grow tired of junk food but also each morning the canteen will provide full English breakfasts, served up in true dinner-lady style - Previously an important detail which was missing from JAE for the morning after a night socialising

Various planned activities such as inter-club Its-a-Knockout competitions, interclub 5-a-side football and some themed in Japanese endurance- Takeshi's Castle style!!

….. but best of all, the venue is really quiet and in the middle of nowhere so we can make as much noise as we like and go on for as long as we like. But if you’re worried about too much noise we have an area completely set aside as a quiet camping for those who may have families etc as the site is designed to cater for all, making it even more family friendly in certain parts of the site to ensure everyone has a great time.

I hope you'll join us in the excitement that the new date and venue will bring to JAE. It’s going to be just like the old days…………only better, longer and so much more to do....and by the beach!!!

More specific details will follow, for now, be safe in the knowledge we're back on track and firing on all cylinders better than ever before....we're now running on Iridium plugs!!!

See you there!
John

That looks interesting Phil, thank you.

I said last year I was going to pass on '08 because of lack of interest last year. And because somebody needs to fix the weather over there!!:rolleyes:

I might go now just to see what this new place is like. It might be a nice trip for the Jersey Girl.

Joe:)

blueji 02-12-2008 04:12 PM

Yeah, thanks for the update Phil, it looks like a good venue. BTW Joe, I can appreciate how a die hard enthusiast like yourself would be hacked off as you were last year, but it was a liitle more damp than usual:rolleyes:,......maybe it dont rain on Mersea.
I consulted a route planner and got a grand total of 471 miles one way from home, so it would be a fair old round trip but if the weather looked promising, well, who knows...

John:)

Phil Hill 02-26-2008 01:49 AM

Latest communication from "the organisation" regarding JAE 2008. We have never attended the pre-meeting before, but if anyone who is close enough feels the need........... then feel free !!

The pre-event site meeting has been arranged for 11am on Saturday 29 March.

This will give us ample time to discuss this year's event and to agree where clubs want to be. Anyone who brings a booking form with payment to the meeting or who has completed a form before that date and sent it in with payment will be allowed to choose (within reason) their plot for JAE 2008.

The meeting will start at 11am with an introduction and briefing about the site and the facilities available. In addition I will be happy to answer any questions you have on the veneu, the event and the other activities we have planned. After that we can walk around the site and I will attempt to show you how the land will be used and the proposed layout.

Once the meeting has completed we can stop off for lunch on the island at the pub you will pass just at the end of the road.

Full details will also be mailed to all clubs about this meeting, this weekend.

DIRECTIONS FROM COLCHESTER....
If you're coming from the North of Colchester:
A1232 to Colchester, follow the signs to the Town Centre.
Over River Colne and along East Hill
Left into Queen Street and pick up the B1025 towards Mersea

If you're coming from the East of Colchester:
A120 then onto the A137 to Colchester, follow the signs to the Town Centre.
Over River Colne and along East Hill
Left into Queen Street and pick up the B1025 towards Mersea

If you're coming from the West of Colchester:
A12 and then off onto the A133
At the roundabout take a right up the hill (away from the town centre)
At the top of the hill take the A1124, left toward the town centre
Follow this road until you see the B1025 to Mersea.

Come the event we will have full signage to the event so please accept there wont be any JAE signs for this meeting. Once on the B1025 follow the road all the way and over the causeway. There will be signs after this but, just so you know. Once over the causeway take the left forrk and follow the road. You will see several signs highlighting various camps. As you go up the hill the one we will be using will have a JAE sign at the start of the entrance road. if in doubt look out for the vineyard!

See you all there!!
John

Do *YOU* want to go to JAE 2008 ??

Ok, pretty much last call for JAE 2008 as I haven't, as yet, applied for our pitch.

So, please indicate your interest in the event as soon as possible, so I may gauge whether or not to send in an application, and if so for how many cars.

Joe and I have had some side discussions but I want to open this up to all.

If no-one responds I won't bother applying - harsh but fair me thinks.

Phil.

hi, was hoping to attend, but looks like i will be abroad during the month of august, maybe next year

blueji 04-19-2008 02:29 AM

Hi Phil,

Quite positive about going, looks a great location! I'm sure your aware of my current problem which I hope to have sorted by then:rolleyes:.....just leaves the weather, it's more like the Migle Milia for me than the JAE, a long way to come if the weather's gona be crap.....but I'm more than willing to make a contribution towards your efforts, either way.... dont see why you should be out of pocket!

John :)

svxistentialist 04-19-2008 05:16 AM

I'm up for it, I hope to be there. Plus I am pretty sure Graham will want to go also.

We will check with Phil and Belha as well. If we have a core group of 5 or 6, I reckon we should just book a 20 car pitch.

I'm uncertain if this new place has a hotel. I'd prefer a nearby hotel, being fond of my comfort, but I can camp if need be. Camping wouldn't be my first choice though for a weekend of so much driving.

Joe

svxistentialist 04-22-2008 06:43 AM

I checked with Graham, and he's coming.

Phil, if you are willing to do the booking, I'll send you a sterling cheque to cover it. Members can pay me direct as they turn up.

Joe

Phil Hill 05-19-2008 02:55 AM

Ok guys and girls........

I have sent the money off for our stand at JAE-2008.

I did send an email in first to make sure we weren't too late, with a positive response from the organisers, so don't let me down !!

I will post up confirmation when it arrives, but it's never too early to start planning, checking out accomodation/tentage, buying beer/food etc.

Phil.

svxistentialist 05-20-2008 05:24 AM

Thanks for following up on that Phil. I'll be in touch with you as arranged. If I hear anything from them I'll let you know.

Hi Istvan

It's never too late so would be great if you can make it.

I have received a receipt for the stand from "the organisation", so as far as I know we're all set.

When I get a site layout plan I'll post it up so we can all see where we've been put.........

Lets hope for some proper weather, should be better being late August.........

Re: Jae 2008

Phil,

got the weekend covered for the JAE, so count me in for sure unless it's really bad weather!!.

Are we looking at Fri/Sat nights, I intend to camp ( at the back of the car again if I can get away with it) and is there anyone else with the same intent, pardon the pun?

John :)

svxistentialist 06-22-2008 07:40 AM

Re: Jae 2008

Being a new venue John, I'm not too sure about the "lay of the land", i.e. what other accommodation may be around.

A hotel bed is much preferable to me than camping, particularly as I will be two nights away from home.

We have a 20 car spot reserved, so unless a lot more turn up than is usual, we will have space to pitch tents. If anybody intends to do this I suspect it would be OK, but the tents would need to be put away in the morning before the business of the day gets underway.

Given the disappointing turn out last year, I think it would be a good idea to build a list of who is planning to attend. I don't want to book a hotel, drive all the way to Essex and then find that nobody else has bothered to turn up. :( If we can get 5 or more cars, it will be a worthwhile event.

Please copy this list and add your name if you are planning to attend.

Updated list.

At this point it would be sensible to email or PM some of the previous attendees to check their plans/availability. Some of those who do not monitor the forum much will be unaware of the venue change.

I'm thinking of stalwarts like Norman with the 3-tone car, and Ian with the all-silver UK car and maybe Arthur with his polo, though I suspect Arthur may bring the 350Z if attending.

There are others, and some, like Brett, will need a phone call. I'll get on it, I'm away on hols this coming Thursday for 10 days.

I PM'd a few.

James [jamsvx] replied. He will try to call over, but has no SVX. He has gone German. Moved from a V8 Merc to a V12 Bmer. He'll probably change that for an Audi A8 next year if he sticks to form.

I notice two of our members have had their accounts deactivated, Norman and Michael [Messenger]

I had better do a post on Yahoo!, as I now can't contact them here.

It might be possible to contact Michael through his website: http://www.michaelmessenger.com/. Check it out, he does some amazing work.

I have an email address for Pottsy, but I can't remember whether he still has an SVX or if he sold it.

I'll email Dave "blackbird2001" and see if he's up for it.

I wish James luck in finding a yellow 4WS Audi.

Hi, thanks for the email Joe.
I havent been on the forum for months.

I still have the SVX, now at a mere 74,000m and as the MOT guy says its like new underneath!

Also still thrashing around in the 350Z, although its for sale if anyone wants a nice Roadster, only 22,000m.

I will try and get over to the event, will get back later.

Regards

Arthur

Good to hear from you Arthur.

It will be great if you can bring the polo, the more the merrier, plus yours is in great nick.

I hope to see you there.

PS I'll be touring France next week, the Loire region. Might pop over to Le Mans and try a wheelie down the Mulsanne. Bikes on tour, that is.

Re: Jae 2008

Definitely will try and make an appearance if I can.

Look for something green and about 14 blocks long and that will be me!

For the hilarious length of the car, it actually handles incredibly well - the S500 was more 'remote' but a lot smoother and quieter and overall, you were tempted to drive through walls rather than around them.

The 750iL has a very linear power delivery - not that quick off the line (then, at over 2 ton, it would not be!) and does not have the 600hp madness engines that AMG are shoving in their ubersedans.

However, a test with one of those IPOD car performance programs that mesaures acceleration, lateral g, braking etc showed a very consistent rate of acceleration...just keeps pulling, next gear....pulling, next gear...pulling - I can only describe it as a turbine.

Aside from an S600 (V12 with 6 litres!) the only other car that I have driven like that is a JC Cosmo 20B - triple rotor twin turbo. That went like stink!

:D

Re: Jae 2008

Hi Guys

Here is the latest info from the Organisation about JAE 2008.

Hello,

Well by now you should be pretty much set and hopefully more than a little excited about the prospects of JAE for 2008! On Tuesday morning I'm off to site to start getting everything set up so, if you need to contact me please do so via my mobile phone number on 0779 555 1774. But before I go just a few reminders:

To get to the camp you will probably come from the A12.
if you do and you're heading from South of the Thames take the A13 then the A130 then the A12. Having done the trip to M.I. several times this is a much more enjoyable route than the A12 directly.

Try and avoid Colchester Town Centre. The best route is as follows:
from the South/West A12 junction 26. Last exit at roundabout under slip road, keep left at island, second exit (A1124) at next roundabout, At lights turn right to "East Mersea"

If you miss junction 26, go to junction 27 and take the last exit at the roundabout. At the top of the hill go straight across the island and then left at the lights to "East Mersea"

From the North/East. A12 junction 29 onto A1232. Follow this into Colchester until you reach the A133, bear sharp left before the railway (Cowdray Avenue, A133) onto the Colchester Bypass. Stay on the A133 Colchester Bypass until you reach the large roundabout. Straight across, up the hill and at the island at the top straight on. At the top of the hill go straight across the island and then left at the lights to "East Mersea

IF IN DOUBT JUST FOLLOW THE SIGNS TO EAST MERSEA

When you get there you are responsible for marshalling and managing cars on and off your plots so please do so with consideration to others and for people walking around. There is a 5mph speed limit for safety reasons and driving while intoxicated on the site is against the law and something we cannot allow for safety and legal reasons. For this reason you now have allocated camping to help reduce the need to drive. Relax, sit back and enjoy the show rather than drive around

No glass bottles. Sorry but this is because children us the show ground for all sorts of activities and is therefore for their safety and yours. Not only that glass bottles can wreck tyres. Please tell your people to bring cans

There is a wedding on Saturday so for a period in the morning we may have to patrol the entrance and give priority to incoming vehicles for that function. Between 3:30pm and 5pm on Saturday the exit will be closed for the wedding reception people to arrive. If you need to go to the shops please do so beforehand

Mersea Island is a small place and no good for shopping. If you need to stock up please do so in Colchester which is a ten minute drive away and has a much better selection of shops

The causeway may be closed for a limited period. If it is there will be a gate crew at the pub just before the causeway. You can pay here which will speed up your entrance to the event, all while you're having a drink! The tide times are as follows:

Thursday 23:29 (JAE gates will close shortly after anyway)
Friday 11:54
Friday at midnight (JAE gates closed then anyway)
Saturday 12:46
Sunday 01:17 (JAE gates closed anyway)
Sunday 13:31

Weather forecast

Friday - 22'C, 5mph wind, sunny
Saturday - 23'C, 9mph wind, very sunny
Sunday - 24'C, 10mph wind, some cloud

Make sure you register for the Its a Knockout competitions as soon as you get there! You can do this at the Admin Tent which is right near the IKO Arena.

See you all there!

John

Hopefully the weather will be kind and the event will go well.

Phil.

Thanks for the effort Phil and keeping us up to date,

As I will be doing near a 1000 ml or so, how many are definitely going? I wouldn't like to be the only one there sat in the middle of a field on my todd:o. The forcast for the weather looks very promising......then again we've had nowt but rain up here since the end of May:(.....saying all that, Joe and Graham will be there, so in my book more than two n' you've got a party:D

Re: Jae 2008

Amen.!

Yea, thanks Phil. Will you be able to call in for an hour or two? I hope so. :)

John, as you know Graham and I will be there.

Also Istvan said he would come and has not said otherwise.

We also have Ahmed coming on the Sunday, it will be great to meet him and see his car.

On the negative side I heard from Arthur today and he can't make it.

Phil & Belha are probably doing the Colin McRae run, so I would not expect them unless they change their minds or drop over on the Sunday.

Darren from Chester said he might come [Black CXD] but he is recovering from an accident and may not be fit to travel.
Scoobymal is another no show [Yellow SVX], Mal will be in Cyprus.

James [Jamsvx] said he would probably call. It would be great to see him again and Cassie if she comes. James has no SVX now, currently he has a Beemer.

That leaves 4 that I know of not yet heard from:
Ally from Scotland
Michael Messenger
Pottsy
Norman.

The fourth is Brett, and I will have to telephone Brett, he does not use the Forum at all.

If Norman's son is coming to the Miata club, maybe Norman will be there also anyway, he usually comes.

That makes possibly 4 or 5 cars as follows:

Blueji definite
svxistentialist definite
Istvan definite
Ahmed definite [Sunday]
Darren possible
Norman possible but unknown
Michael unknown
Ally unknown
Pottsy unknown
Brett unknown

I'm looking forward to it already, and I really hope the weather is good, we need a break here.

Joe :D

Yes, but it's a perpetual cup!! ;) Phil and Belha, Graham and I won it outright last year.

Re: Jae 2008, update

Michael Messenger kindly contacted me to say he was heading for Hong Kong, so he can't make it.

Phil and Belha are doing the Banbury event, so they will not be able to attend.
So the latest list is now at:

Blueji definite
svxistentialist definite
Istvan definite
Ahmed definite [Sunday]
Darren possible
Norman possible but unknown
Michael not coming
Ally unknown
Pottsy unknown
Brett unknown

We have enough to make it a fun event.

The above link shows a map of the site. As you can see, come in the entrance, travel straight ahead till you can go no further, turn left, and the SVX stand is on the left down a ways beside Toyota Seras.

We look forward to meeting you, and seeing your car.

BTW tide is at half past one Sunday, so try to avoid that time in case the causeway is flooded.

Cheers man.

Joe :)

Istvan, I'll be travelling all day tomorrow and won't arrive till early Sat. I'm collecting Graham who has our paperwork for the site. If you're there first, man the site for us. Tell them you are with the network and paid up.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Joe:)
