CNC machined parts for SVXes coming

1 Attachment(s)
I just picked this up today! It is a small CNC milling machine, the MAXNC 10.

I plan to use it to make some aluminum SVX parts, such as..

1. Battery hold down (test project) with SVX logo or something
2. Camber plates for front struts
3. Aluminum trans. pitch 'dogbone'?
4. ???

Any ideas out there?
A few limitations:
a. Needs to be Aluminum or plastic
b. Not too big..the machine is small, but some larger things could be finagled in there.

Wow, awesome! What programming is it running? I've got HAAS and FANUC machines at school that I'm learning to program right now.

I would buy some of the battery hold downs. :) Start with those first. ;)

2 cms flange for the rear strut (It goes above the mount to increase the height of the SVX rear).

Re: CNC machined parts for SVXes coming

could be interested in that... the battery tie-down, and the rear damper block... camber plates.... good stuff.

Looking forward to the progress reports.

Nice one!

Congratulations on the purchase Steve.

Sounds awesome. Id love the tiedown dogbone etc. I'm sure the dogbone would be firmer than the plastic and used with urithane bushings?

That should work! I'm taking my stock wheels off shortly, so I'll have my currently horrible looking ones to work with...

Have to figure out how to hold the cap while cutting, and will need some smaller cutters to cut the 'SVX' to a smaller scale.

I'll put it on the list to do after I get this hold down figured out.

SVXCESS sent me a PM on how to best fill caps, I'll PM that to you.
John may like this idea too

Yeah, a lot of people are asking about the ones I fabbed and installed few years ago. Thought I would mention it.

And excellent work Steve! Looking forward for more stuff bro ;)

I am interested in seeing some things with the Alcyone emblem. Like maybe even plates small enough for key chains.

I was thinking of this as an alternate battery bar design, so then I could sell them to the XT6 people too:p
A scaled version could work for a keychain too I suppose.

This is a hi quality MSpaint concept rendering :D

Seriously though, I could use a good file of the alcyone horns, anyone have something good?

Steve, you should also consider custom jobs. What input your CNC reads from? pdf? CAD? Sorry for my noobish question.

It reads a g-code file. This code can be generated a lot of different ways. Like from a CAD file, or with a little finishing work, from a jpeg picture. Higher resolution the better, and line drawings are better than colored/shaded, but there's usually a way to make it work.

Roughly in order of ease:
1. CAD file
2. Line art drawing
3. JPG type file
4. Photograph jpg

Woot! 1000 posts!

Dayton-Dave 02-21-2010 11:51 AM

Could that be used for the door sills entry plate?

I would be interested in something like that as well.

Dave

[Noob SVX owner raises hand] I'm in for a battery tiedown -- it's one of the many things missing from my car. Always more than happy to help someone pay for their new toy!

I found good files for the Alcyone and the horns, maybe next week I'll cut one to see how it looks...

There is a poll going on about tow hooks being grounded down. Some lower profile prettier ones may be in order.

How much do you think a battery tie down, with svx would cost? I think I would be interested as well.

I am pretty sure that there are other aftermarket dogbones you can buy from other Subaru models that fit the SVX...

I think you could sell a boatload of battery tie-downs, steve!

That looks pretty sweet. I'd be in for one of those!

How about oil caps? Would that be hard to do? People love keeping oil in their motors. You could always just buy blank aluminum ones, and cut the SVX or SUBARU or H-6 or BOXER-6, or...something into it.

+1 for battery tie downs and oil caps, IF they are reasonably priced. Don't have to be super cheap, but reasonable.

Billet oil caps are cheap on Ebay. I doubt that he could produce them for even close to their price considering the time it would take to do single caps versus straight run CNC production.

See pic--billet cap approx $10 on Ebay when you catch them right.

That looks very cool Lee.

So maybe Steve could buy a batch of billet caps off eBay, and use the CNC machine to cut the Alcyone horns or the SVX logo into the top of the cap??

Why reinvent the wheelbarrow?

Joe

That would definitely work if the metal on the top is thick enough to machine the horn emblem.

Here is the Ebay site for the plain caps. The price is less than I paid at $6.99 with free shipping, apparently.
