Driveway accident.

I am staying with my parents for a few weeks right now, and I guess they arent used to my car in the driveway. My dad backed into my SVX today with his denali. :( This is the second time this has happened, but the last time was with my moms grand cherokee which isnt as high. When she did it, it just scraped the bumper. My dad managed to crunch in my rear quarter pretty well. The damage is roughly $1100. :( :( :(
Here is the damage to my car: |

Here's the damage to my dad's car. There are scratches on the black plastic skid piece, and the trailor hitch cover is snapped off.

Ouch! Just had a similar repair done on the other side. It was a ball shaped puncture right in the middle on the corner. Repaided for $200, put yours looks much hard to pull out if not a new panel?
|
I hate SUVs. If it had been a car you might have been able to buff it right out.
Anyway, look on the bright side Mike... you didn't spend much on your paintjob, so hopefully you can get the whole thing repainted again for prices the rest of us only dream of. :) - Rob |
The estimate was for the repair of the panel. and the rear bumper cover. The body shop warned me that if they estimated it for replacment of the panel, the insurance company could end up totaling the car.

Sorry to see that. Did you cry?
|
I did and it's not even my car :(
|
that puts princess pearly dimples in a lower class now...
|
That sucks Mike, I am crying with you. Someone good will be able to fix it. It won't be easy though.
How long are you going to be in the area? |
Ouch
:( . Mike that blows! Might want to try diffindalls out in Manheim. They can do some quality work. I'd at least get some estimates with replacing the whole panel. Granted it'll be pricey but it'll also be difficult to bring that back right and not have rust issues in the future.

Mike - that hurts. Sorry to see that. Hope you can get it fixed soon. :(

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.
Mike, I don't even know what to say. That really sucks. I can see how replacing that panel could total the car, though. I really hope that they can get it all fixed up for you. |
Ouch
:( :( :(
|
:( does the high school where you got it painted have an autobody-shop class?
|
Don't replace the whole panel.... there would be a TON of mud on your car if you did that. Just patch it. If you could, find a wrecked SVX that has that part okay. Get a 'nibbler' and cut the panel from the SVX, with as much 'extra' metal as you need. A bodyshop will cut out the damaged section, attach the new 'patch' with some pins, weld it in, then float it right so it looks good as new. It could be worse Mike. At least you don't have downtown parking in Madison.
Heh. G'luck!! - Rob |
AWWW!
I feel so bad! I am so sorry! Just seeing it makes a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach! I hope that you don't have to spend too much money getting it fixed. :(

re: sorry mike
sorry mike. i hope that everything goes well at the body shop.
|
That's just awful! :(

First, Sorry to see that happen. It really sucks so soon after it was painted.
Second, When I had my Denali, I drove it for over 30,000 miles without hitting, bumping, or scraping anything. I also have a tight driveway to wedge between the SVX and the house. Third, Looking at the damage, I'd say you can just use regular old body repair panel patches. There are no distinct body lines, just a gentle curve. No need to hack up a parts car. If it was me, I'd straighten the metal. It would take a while, but it would yeild the best results. Doug |
I had another estimate done today at Autohaus (VW/Audi/Porsche Dealer in Lancaster). It came out to about $1700. Both Autohaus, and the other bodyshop aggreed that the panel should be straightened and repaired. My insurance company wants me to take the car to the Faulkner chevy body shop for at least an estimate. I have an appointment for this to be done tomorrow. It's possible I wont have my car fixed until December as I start school at the beginning of June and will need the transportation. :(

It think it's time to kick DAD out of the house!!!:D

Sorry to see that, Mike.:( This tear's for you, bud. It seems like that is a popular corner to get mangled. |

Of course, they can barter with the shop and try to whittle down the price, just like I would if I were paying :D Or they can deny the claim, cancel you and let you sue them :( Doug |
Wow that does suck. How hard did you have to hold your self back from killing your dad. Mine got hit in that spot too, I wanted blood to spill. Unfortunatlly my blood did spill. It got fixed very well and now it's very hard to tell it ever happend. It's a shame to happen to such a clean good looking car.
|
:( That really sucks man I'm sorry to here that. so so sorry.
