Well it seems that there are at leat two kinds of steering wheels around, maybe more, but I found this: http://193.12.43.114/SVX_raw/interior063.jpg and this one, like in mine and Jasons car: http://193.12.43.114/SVX_raw/interior059s.jpg -Does any1 know if there are more than these? /Sonny  |
Sonny,
What do the 4 buttons on the wheel do? |

I am quite sure that no other steering wheel designs exist. The key difference is that one has an airbag, and the other does not. Australian SVXs did not get a standard driver's airbag until 1993, so my 1992 model has the non-airbag wheel. The controls on the wheel are for the stereo - but it seems that only JDM SVXs with the non-airbag wheel had them! My wheel has a blanking plate with the SVX logo where the controls would normally be. Jason. |
4 buttons
Big one on the right turns stereo volume up or down.
One beside it turns the stereo on/off. The two on the left are for the radio and radio tuning. I have one of each Sonny. The English car has the airbag type. The JDM car has the stereo controls. Jason's [ex-Jamsvx] car looks to have a third type I had not seen; the non-airbag type wheel, but with the stereo controls not on it. Maybe Jason's car has the single din stereo with CD changer, and the steering wheel controls don't work with that one? Or is my eyesight bad, and there are buttons on Jason's wheel type? Joe:) |

:D My wheel does not have the controls on it - but it seems that the steering column is wired for them - when I removed the blanking plate, I found an electrical connector sitting there! I have the double-DIN stereo with the single disc CD player - what stereo does your JDM car have? Note that I have seen two types of double-DIN stereo systems - one has digital volume control, the other has a large knob. Jason. |

Horn inaccessible
Does anyone else have the same problem my JDM steering wheel has?
It's this; the horn push is really difficult to get to when you want to honk the horn. On mine, you can push the wheel centre with four fingers, karate jab it, stab it, punch it, generally pound it to a pulp, but the only way the horn will work is to push hard with one finger on the Subaru label, preferably in the middle between "b" and "a". Not really intuitive for a quick warning toot. Anyone else got this problem? Joe |
