Well they fair pretty well offroad... Went on the USMB Pine Barrens run today which was kinda cool. Popped the radiator on the way home though... Just installed another one with reinventing the lower rad support... Should be just fine

Well, Myxalplyx stopped in today for a windshield in his XT6. I told him to take the Dr. SUS out for a drive. He hadn't driven stick in a long while so Mike took him out in it... 20mins later Mike drive back into the parking lot with the front bumper in the back seat:rolleyes: Fender got a little mangled and the corner light is toast... Ultimately I am tired of replacing bumper covers.... so we decided it would be a better idea to build a tube bumper using 2" pipe. Note I said pipe and not tubing, it is 8guage pipe... very heavy duty stuff... Created a new crumple zone using 2.5" exhaust tubing all mated with 1/4" flat steel. Not done yet and will take some time to finish but the overall frame is bent and welded into place. pics below

Nice, That new bumper should show those trees who's boss!!
|
Oh dear god....this thing is going to be the monster Subie from hell when you're done.
|
Ill give it that.
I need to make one for my wagon... |
So there will be no bumper cover then? Too bad you couldn't make that to go over the bumper cover cause that would have been kinda neat.
|
You need to put rally lights on it next:cool:
And a snorkel (Jeep style deep water thing). And a winch. |
Who needs bumper covers :D.
Is the tube bumper lighter than a stock subaru bumper? |
Well, Mikes car already has a snorkle, though it isnt much to look at:lol:
This tube bumper is already heavier than stock, and we havent even made all of the cross bracing for it. Plans are to have it connect to the frame rails under the car somewhere as well, creating a skid plate. With any luck this will be the LAST bumper tom or mike breaks:eek: |
