The new ps2 has a built in ethernet port. The old ones didnt

Subafreak 12-13-2004 07:33 PM

Oh yeah! What the frig's an ethernet?

Merz 12-13-2004 07:39 PM

Its what you plug your cable internet into for playing online. With the old ps2 you had to buy the network card. Im not sure why they call it ethernet.

geez, DVD players are like $40 now. :D

i bought one after realizing the PS2 only played about half of my...backed-up movies. i got mine the first day they came out though - i figured the newer PS2's would play 'em better.

yeah but I don't need more friggen wires to hook up.

My freind got a later PS2 and has never had a DVD problem. I got mine as a GT3 combo. It won't play the best half of "Gone in 60 seconds" or 3/4's of " The Matrix"

I prefer XBox's when it comes to playing DVD's. XBMC is awesome.

Mr. Pockets 12-14-2004 01:18 PM

I have both an XBox and a PS2 and I prefer a DVD deck for playing movies.

Oh, buddy, don't I friggin' know it. I don't pull my entertainment center out to play with wires unless I absolutely have to.

Luckily I bought a TV with enough inputs - I haven't looked recently but a year ago there were no component video switch boxes.

Earthworm 12-16-2004 05:46 PM

I haven't seen one either. The best I've found is an S-Video switch box.

thundering02 12-16-2004 07:18 PM

weve ha acouple of cheap switch boxes with the normal rca in and outs on was bought from Sears one was bught online four and an eight they both had a couple of svideos so you could still hook up the cool stuff but all the rcas to take care of all your gaming needs

Mr. Pockets 12-17-2004 07:50 AM

Both my PS2 and XBox are connected to my TV via component AV packs - it's the only way to use progressive scan modes.

consoles as dvd players

I have a buddy who burns a lot of his own DVD's. His XBox plays anything he has ever thrown at it. If I could only have one component to attach to my TV, the Xbox would be it. But then the XBox won't be playing GT4 any time soon.

Personally I believe in dedicated players if wires are not a problem. I just got a Phillips DVP and it is the best $69 I ever spent. It plays everything: DVD, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, MP3, MP4, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, SVCD, DIVX 3x/4x/5x, AVI, MPEG2...etc. Anything I can buy, copy, download or burn. An amazing player!

Johnny
