Re: Parts availability: How near is the end?
I got it out of the back this morning, omg that thing weighs a ton. Officially the heaviest engine I've ever pulled! I had to slide it down a pair of 2x6s praying it wouldn't fall or roll forward on my feet. Anyone know how much it weighs in at?

Re: Parts availability: How near is the end?
In my 5+ years of SVX ownership, I've bought:
(1) crankshaft pulley, (4) antisway bar bushings, (0) ball joints, (4) some rear wheel bearings and seals, (1) gasket kit, (4) hood struts, (also 4 trunk struts) (2) radiator hoses, (1) radiator, (0) driveshaft, (2) axles, (1 used) CD player, (2) cam seals, (1) crank seals, (1) timing belt, (2 pr.) brake pads, (2) rotors, (0) calipers, (0) inner tie rod ends, (0) outer tie rod ends, (0) an extra 3.3, (1) water pump, svxfiles, I'd say your list is dead on the money. I hate the thought of buying-up stuff that's in abundant supply, even if delivery takes a week or two. What I wish we knew is what's almost gone, not just from these shores, but for good. dcb |

The anti-sway bar links now list for about $70.00! Everything is going up way more than it should! We know that will need them, we might as wll buy the stuff before we can't afford it! |

Ask cozykat (Marisa) for a list of everything she has bought, or is buying on a regular basis to use as spares.
Here list is very comprehensive and impressive to say the least. Every imaginable part. Engine wiring harnesses and anything else you can possibly think of... http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...ykat/42870.jpg http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...ykat/42871.jpg But then, coming from Texas, she does things in a BIG way. http://s165.photobucket.com/albums/u...uGoGirl121.gif http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...acdbb8248b.jpg http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/atta...1&d=1263227630 . |

Rear strut mounts—postscript:
I'm guessing Subaru never figured these to be a replacement wear part. Man, mine were shot. Not a spot of rust in the doors, no bubbles in the paint, no alarming signs of corrosion in this car at all, but the mounts looked like salvage from Titanic. What are these things made of, some crazy high-carbon alloy? dcb |
Re: Parts availability: How near is the end?
I think the best way to do it, is to buy and keep parts that cannot and will not exist in aftermarket form, and which are perishable by time and age (rubbers, seals, glass, etc...)
Marisa is right on buying and gathering parts. But I wouldn't go as far as buying OEM struts. The mounts are questionable... |
Re: Parts availability: How near is the end?
A buddy of mine was eyeballing an SVX local to him, and I couldn't not offer the concerns that we've discussed in this thread.
Windshields are what they are, but as an SVX society, our next direction will probably involve custom bits to allow our cars to accommodate more common hardware. How crazy would it be to be able to select from the entire line of Impreza or Legacy suspension parts or brakes or... ? |
