Thanks John. It's interesting that a Honda Coupe of the same era had directional rims.

If you are old enough to cast your mind back to that era, the Honda Prelude was already in a marketing space that Fuji/Subaru craved to enter with the SVX. The Prelude was much beloved of young monied professionals who liked high technology vehicles with style. Honda had already gained acceptance with urban professionals, this was exactly the market the SVX was meant to capture.

It is interesting then that Subaru chose rims for the SVX with different symmetry for left and right, just like Honda. This proclaimed that the design was "bespoke".

Considering the other rims available for the SVX were not "handed" and were almost closed out like a Mercedes rim with no obvious ventilation system, I have always felt that the factory contention that our standard rims aided brake cooling was marketing hype, designed merely to differentiate and shift the technology upmarket.

Our OEM wheels will keep the brakes just as cool whether mounted normally or "backwards" I feel.

Joe :)

Actually from a Mitsubishi 300GT (or was it the Stealth?) with custom center caps if I recall.

I'm not going to get any work done today at this rate.

I plan to start a separate thread on the wheels, however, I can say that Phenix Wheels was not involved with the fit or refinish of the caps (the caps have the same finish you sprayed).

Also, the price Phenix Wheels charges to refinish wheels is no secret, just check PhenixWheels.com for prices :)

PhenixWheels.com is one of the best in the business, the reason I selected Phenix on this one-of-a-kind JDM-spec SVX

Phenix Wheels specializes in Factory Original Equipment Refinishing and OEM Remanufactured Wheel Sales :D

Re: Any Other "Uni-Directional" Wheels??

The wheels are color-matched to '92 OEM SVX wheels, so, anyone can have their SVX wheels re-finished and restored in this color. It is powder-coat, and as you saw, OEM quality and appearance .

Many thanks to PhenixWheels.com for stunning wheels :D

My bad. I could hardly hold out for one night posting about your cars. I'm really not the best with secrets; excitement always gets the best of me.

I will add that those wheels were the most stock looking upgrades I've ever seen. The narrower spokes exposed just enough brake rotor to let you know it wasn't a hubcap, yet kept the intent of the original design. Adding the SVX center caps made me look twice, very hard, to see that those weren't actually a stock option. Very nice.

Thanks Kit,

Like Glenn said, the operative word is 'WAS'

Please, continue to say and share your observations, and great pics,

The secret is out, though, it wasn't really a secret, just a project needing a great deal of TIME, fortune, luck, fate, hard-work [so many major hurdles], cooperation and support of so many friends, etc., to finally reach a successful conclusion and debut the Alcyones!

I wish that I had time to install the slotted dba SERIES 4000 rotors  on both cars before the meet, just couldn't get it done. Much work to do through summer, when time permits.

The PHENIXWHEELS, and the TOYOTIRES VERSADO LX Luxury Touring Tires were two/thirds of the package. Once the dba-DISK BRAKES OF AUSTRALIA rotors and some fresh calipers are installed, that will be exactly what I planned :)

Re: Any Other "Uni-Directional" Wheels??

It's definately time to share the excitement, please go for it :D

Five years is a long time to keep a secret, yet, the whole idea could have unraveled at any time. No one wants to fail, and few want to be held accountable for their own folly, and for expectations put on themselves by 'speaking out of turn'.

The story will come out, I'll tell it on the Pearl JDM thread as soon as I can.

Hey Ron,
What was the name of the company that restored the wheels for you?
:p
