Has anyone attempted to get a glass sunroof made? That's the only thing i miss about the sunroof. I havent looked under the head-liner of the sunroof, but i would assume there's nothing between it and the outside, so nothing to obstruct the view. :) Any ideas?

I've seen a few postings on this forum about the Impreza glass sunroof having the proper dimensions, but I haven't seen anyone following through with a success story.

Someone here has a 94 or 95 L and it had a glass sunroof installed (well...flip-up style)

As to replacing the stock sunroof I don't think it has been done yet.

Anyone have the funds and/or desire to try this? If they are successful, they have atleast one customer. :D

I have a 94 with a dealer installed glass sunroof. It operates the same as the factory except it is a little smaller (same width). I love it except for the fact that it tries to lift at about 130. Hummm--was i going that fast? :D

The headliner is slightly different as is the sunroof control.

The Glass GC8 (2.5RS 1st Generation) moonroof from the non NADM vehicles is a directly bolt-in replacement for our roof.

It's not a USDM part so you might need to do some research on it. I don't have the part #.

I had a glass roof on my Toyota truck. I loved it and sometimes I miss it. But I wouldn't put one in my SVX. It'd look great on the inside, fully lighting the beautiful interior, but not so great on the outside. The exception in my mind would be black-roofed SVXs. The glass would blend well with those.

Just my opinion. Your mileage is guranteed to possibly vary occasionally.

There is a SVX for sale at my local dealer with a glass roof. I will snap pics tomorrow.

Is yours OEM or is it aftermarket installed by the dealer?

It has to be aftermarket. Subaru did not ever offer a dealer installed sunroof option or accessory on the SVX. Just because a dealer installed does not mean that it came from Subaru.

That might be true, but it uses the same motor.

PS: Does not really matter anyway--I like it (except at 130MPH plus). :D

I think we need pics. the LE has a totally different roof panel that doesnt have a place for the stock motor to mount. Unless they cut the roof off your car and put one from a sunroof car on there, it has to be completely aftermarket.

You all won't believe this, but I found a glass roofed SVX today at the junkyard! CLEARLY a dealer-add on and NOT a Subaru one. The buttons controlling it were non-factory nasty rubber ones. Here are some pics to enjoy!

What size is that, it looks the same as the factory roof on these.
By the way does that look like a L version, the seats dont seem to be leather.

I have a glass sunroof! I also have receipts from it being installed way back in 1993. I couldn't believe when I came to my first Reading and saw everyone with lousy pieces of carpet for a roof. :p If you guys want pictures, let me know. I plan on removing and reinstalling a new headliner this summer, and when I do I can get some pictures of the gadgets. My map light buttons were relocated though, and are now in the back seat area :[

The pictures look like the one I had installed in my GLF back in the day. Only thing it was manual and only popped up no full open. Or you could remove it and store it in a supplied bag in the trunk.. The dealer back then was also getting glass electric sliders installed $800 . ( the whole car was only $6,000. and the sun roof leaked. ) My 1992 Sport Sedan had a Leakey one too. So dealers could get a lot of aftermarket stuff. I could have had a whole leather interior done in the Sport Sedan for $1,000 . After market was big back in the day.

A sunroof assembly from Pick n Pull is $42.99, wanna pay for it? :p

EDIT: Actually I'd need to take the whole headliner, button assembly, sunroof assembly, and all the nuts n bolts. Y'all sure you want it still?

04-10-2013, 11:12 AM
Yea, go get that thing before it gets crushed! LMK how much everything costs, and how much you want for your trouble. The headliner might be too much of a PITA to ship, but I have an extra one I can modify. PM me to discuss in more detail.

I'll be posting a lot more photos of this tomorrow, I'll be removing it and it'll be in icingdeath88's hands after that!

Well, sadly that was a failure. The sunroof was stuck in the vent position, and while trying to manually slide the glass back (no manual override, so I had to literally pull on it) to get to the remaining bolts, the plastic bits in the rails broke and the glass cracked. But here are the photos I did get of it!

The slightly ghetto button arrangement
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/3751/img0458od.jpg

The factory light buttons were wrapped up in duct tape and shoved into the headliner...

Socket where the factory dome light went

And this is how it was rigged into place. Classy eh? You can also see how they mangled the roof pillars to get the drain tubes in.

Nope, drivers seat was missing a whole chunk, passenger was ripped, and the back seat bottom looked like someone crapped their pants on the drivers side haha
