Is anyone interested in a 2003 meet?

Joe mentioned in a recent correspondence that he might like to meet on Guernsey. If that is what you all would like, I would be happy to organize something. All other ideas gratefully received.

The more notice we have, the more wil be able to attend. Maybe we could meet up with some of our continental cousins.

Please get posting with interest and ideas

Tony,

I thought you were going to look out for a location in your neck of the woods ??

Not that I have any problems with going to Guernsey, in fact I've only just missed out on a trip there with work.........

Andy, are you anywhere near the power station in St. Sampson, well that's one of ours.......... Sorry !!

Phil.

Hi Guys

I did say Guernsey as a possibility. Possibly also we could consider a meet on continental soil. That would be inclusive for Marty McFly in Austria, Kusi in Switzerland and there are a couple of members around the Low Countries.

However, we would need first to set a timeframe so that people furthest away could indicate committment. It would be disappointing to get a meet set for the continent, along with the cost and logistics headaches, and find 50% or 100% of the continentals could not attend. [Though doubtless a bunch like ours would have a good time anyway. I have seen you people drink!:D ]

If Guernsey or Amsterdam are not runners [for this year!] then perhaps we could look north, maybe Midlands or Lake District? There are a few members in the North or Scotland would like a meet, and if the location was worthwhile for a weekend, our southern based owners would travel.

Just a thought,

Joe:)

Colin,

You will only be missing the 10th Anniv. meet by about 8 months.:)

You will be very near a few of the guys, set up a meeting yourself. In particular, if memory serves, you are going to be very near Graham, who has upgraded his brakes, put in a five speed, and is in the process of [maybe finished!] bolting on a supercharger, and expecting to generate about 400hp.

If you are around for a few days, I'm sure the guys would love to meet.

Joe:)

Hello!

I would love to meet up with you guys this year!
Problem with a meet on continental soil. Who will organise it?

Amsterdam would be a great place for a meet, but there are no SVXers from Holland we know!

If the meet is at Guernsey I have to check alot of things, cause this travel takes a long time for me.

Maybe I can first meet up with Kusi, or some German SVXers so that we can travel up together to your place.

I hope it will work out anyway.

Greetings from Austria

I am only too happy to travel to England or continental Europe. I would combine either with a full holiday.

Joe, do you still have a list of email addresses from last year? It could be worth sending out a circular to see who is interested as not all are regular visitors to this site.

I for one, would love to meet up somewhere that has long empty autobahns :D We've been looking for an excuse to drive to europe for some time now.

But Guernsey or up North would be OK too.

Last time we went to the Lake District our Transmission melted, but we're willing to risk it again.

Phil & Belha.

Hi Marty

Can I ask you a favour?

Regards a continental meet, many might be in favour [see Phil's comments re autobahnen] but the cost is sure to be a factor for a few, possibly for many. Added to the cost will be the extra time it will need, as against an English location.

However, if enough commit, and the time and cost is right, it could happen. That is why I picked Amsterdam as "half way house", the travel time would be shared. Any coastal Channel city or town would do as well.

The favour is this. Could you search the site, and possibly Yahoo as well, and contact any continental Europeans for their opinion, and whether they would travel to a meet?

Organising the venue would be relatively simple, even at long distance. A local knowledge of hotels, pensions and places to visit would be very useful, but this can be organised from a distance if such knowledge [i.e. a local owner] is not available.

If the numbers and the interest do not seem to justify a continental outing, we can proceed with a Guernsey or English event. Timeframe will likely be sometime between June and end August, most will be able to take a few days' holidays at that time, and the weather is usually benign.

Let us know what you can do.

Joe:)

PS If Europe trip does not happen this Summer, I would hope we would consider it a priority for '04, plan it long range, possibly notify a few of our US friends so that they can visit the Meeting

@svxistentialist

Well, I will give my best next time.
I would also love to come to Guernsey if I am not "SVX-alone" driving this long distance.

Since two weeks I have found an austrian SVXer (the first one by time) and I will ask him if he is willed to do such a trip.

Then I am asking Kusi (he has got 2 SVX-friends in Switzerland) and there are some more in Germany that we know.

I think it must be possible to motivate these guys :)

Hope it works out positive

That sounds positive Marty

If your guys are on for it, we can propose one, maybe two events to visit, and see how many UK members can come along.

Let us know how many you get that are genuinely interested.

Andy

I would have email addresses for some, not all, of last year's group.

Current PC problem, my home machine is sick, lost some device drivers, and I have to do some recovery work to activate or else get the Outlook Express data files off it.

Hope to get this sorted, but will need some technical help, and probably an NT install disk to get it mobile.

Let you know when I have it sorted.

Hi folks

A 2003 meet would be great. My favorite would be Amsterdam. In Germany there is also the http://www.svx-club.de I will go this year maybe on the club trip with them.

I have contact with Mrs Ramp (Switzerland), she is responsable for Swiss members. Could be a good idea, that they change the club trip into a 2003 European meet trip :)

I will send her today an email.

Been away this week, so sorry for the delay in responding Phil - can't access anything from where I'm working!

If a Midlands meet is a thought, I can certainly get some arrangements done. Plenty to see around here - Warwick and Kenilworth castles, National Heritage Motor Car museum (they host a great Supercar day in July where some very extic machinery gets together), canals, Stratford, Coventry Motor Museum, Prodrive, MGRover and Jaguar factories - RR (sorry Bently) within easy driving..most of the latter car companies I have contacts in.

Equally, Europe or Guernsey is fine. I was in N Holland last week with a client who has a Forrester. He says he knows of a dealer in the area that has an SVX - I'm back there next week, so will try to get contact details. May be useful if we choose Holland as a venue!!

Let me know if you want me to sort something....

With summer rapidly approaching, we need to get something organised fairly quickly now.

A good start would be for everyone interested to register below in this tread, so we can see what sort of interest there is. I will start it off by registering Sandra and me, plus the sprogs.

I would love if the meet is on continental soil.
You can count me in, but the time is very important for me.

At the beginning of June I am in Italy for about 4 days and my holidays are sparely this summer.

I have only got 8 days in August. From 9. - 17. of August!

So when should the meet take place?

Hi Marty

You are in the same situation as most others. Whatever date is picked, there will be some unavailable because holidays are booked, visitors arriving etc. Par for the course.

Our first step is to get committment from people, see how many want to come, are willing to travel. When we have the numbers, we will select a suitable date and place that will pull in the most members.

Joe

We need more replies to this thread. Andy or Tony, could you guys use the email function on the site to directly contact last year's people, see if they are interested in coming?:)

It would appear that the Midlands seems to be the best option for this year. Could Tony have a look into some dates etc as decent accomodation will be booking fast. I will be able to travel between 18th July and 2nd September because of the school holidays.

When we have a definite date and venue, we can then contact everyone that may be interested.

Sorry for the delay again.

Is everyone ok with Andy's suggestion?

Looks like August could maximise our chances of getting together, also given the time left to get anything arranged.

I'll have a quick look into a couple of venues for August time and let you know when I get some responses. No problems if there is a later change to location for the meet

Andy

many thanks Tony, August is fine for me.

If you have the time, could you let me know of any suitable accomodation in the area, holiday park or similar, for young families, as week will be coming for a week or more.

Thanks

August is OK for me at present, except Sun 17th, I have a wedding.

See what events and venues might be appropriate first, then we can poll the usual suspects.
