I need to replace some of the bulbs in the strips under the dash guage assembly, these are the ones in the, curise, fog light,, etc. and on the other side of the steering colunm,, hazard light switch,, anyway I have read several posts on the subject and I am not clear as to what the bulb numbers are on the bulbs that are on when the headlights are on and also the ones that light up when the particular button is pushed in to indicate that the switch is on, I know there are two in each switch, I would like to know what the numbers are for these two different bulbs are so I can try to get them at Radio Shack . Ok,, any help will be appreciated ,,, Thanks Vernon.

Thanks for the bulb numbers,, I didn't want to take them out and then try to match them up that way,, I suppose that both bulbs in the buttons are the same number,, Thanks again.. Vernon

Yes, they are. There is no need to go to the dealer for these things, they cost a fortune there!!

So, do the buttons just pop out ? How do I get to the bulbs themselves ? It doens't appear the RS bulbs have a 'base' ?

Alright, I brought this back up for this reason. I work at radio shack, and had some down time today, so I fixed all the bulbs in the switches. Now my question is this, would these bulbs work in the climate control as well? Those bulbs are shorter than these ones. Those are the only dead bulbs left in my car, the entire top row in the unit is dead. Very annoying. Hope someone can help me out!

OEM part numbers for dash lights, click HERE (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/How-To/25379.pdf)

The bulbs on the left strip (Cruise, Fog and Security) use 83426PA020 for illumination when the lights are turned on (green lamp behind the wording) and 83426PA030 to light up when they are ON .

The same on the right strip (Rear Defroster and Hazard) Note: the hazard switch shows illumination only when the lights are on; it does not change when pressed, therefore it only takes the 83426PA020 bulb.

The bulps in the climate control are the same as the ones in the buttons. I know because I replaced them all.

I have all the little bulbs out of the switches, is there a write up on how to replace the bulb part and reuse the base or is it just a straight forward thing?

mysvxrocks

Its easy, just wrap the wires around the base like the old ones were. Be sure to keep the little green bulb cover! Or your lights will be white and not green.

Thanks for all the info on the bulbs. Now I have to go and check to make sure all those things light up ( I know Tom. You are probably grimacing right now saying "Oh no. Not another bulb change"):D

Glad I could find these part numbers! Couldn't see the fog lamp switch at night and figured there must be a bulb out! Now I need to find all the rest of the burnt out bulbs and replace them. Has anyone had any expierence with replacing the OEM bulbs with LED lamps?

Does anyone have information for led bulbs for the switches?

Thanks,

Probably wouldn't be good. LEDs are directional and the bulbs mount in there from the top, so the side of the bulb faces the actual button. The bulbs are cheap and come in a bag now, I've replaced all of mine including the lock and mirror switch with those and they work well.

You could try it. I believe they make special omnidirectional LEDs now that I think about it. But it sounds like alot of work to me. Let us know if you do!

Can anyone point me in the direction of a walk-through on how to replace those bulbs?

Also, could someone list all the interior items that are illuminated, or are supposed to be? For instance, does the sunroof and power mirror switch illuminate when the headlights are on?

Lastly, how do I replace the burnt bulbs in my "PRND321" indicator in the gauge cluster?

Sorry for being off-topic, but I'm a n00b!

List of what switches/controls should be illuminated in the interior can be found HERE (http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showpost.php?p=496045&postcount=9) and also HERE (http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showpost.php?p=464866&postcount=5)

I have the same question. If it isn't too bad, I will replace my "D" light. If it is a major ordeal, I will just deal with a dead "D" light.

If it is a major ordeal, I will just deal with a dead "D" light.Funny story: For a while on my old 1991 Legacy, the D light worked. Then, all of a sudden, one day it decided not to work anymore. Then one day about 4 years later, it decided to work again.

I doubt you want to wait 4 years, but you never know.

That's the one bulb I don't mind being out,
if none of those are glowing, I'm in D ,
and I don't have to look at it at night

Not a big deal... a few bolts... a few Phillips screws... remove instrument unit... twist out old bulb... twist in new bulb... reverse procedure to reinstall and you are done.

Someone please Quote this information on a new post so the "huskymaniac person" can see the enlightening information.

Think the first "HERE" missed a couple of screws. It's been about 3 years since I replaced the bulbs, so not sure:confused:

John,

Thanks for the detailed links on illumination. I printed the page, and went to the garage to check the 92 LS-L Pearl. I need to replace an overhead illumination, and backgrounds on the panel switches.

My 92 Parking switch DOES have an amber light, when selected on, contrary to your report. I'll check the other 92s when I can, three are away driven by the young adults in the family.

Also, in your first description, the security lamp on bulb is not amber, but flashing red. When on, this lamp flashes at all times. Once the key is inserted and turned to ON, the red flashing lamp turns off.

ONE QUESTION? Is there only one background illumination bulb for the cruise, fog, security panel switch, or does each button have have a separate illumination bulb?

The link to Earl's bulb list would indicate that each button has its own illumination bulb, funny, since I have no illumination on either of those three buttons. All burned out at the same time?

thanks for the good work :)

My 92 pearlie and my son's 92 pearlie did not have the amber LED in them. The indentation in both of our switches was blank.

Also, in your first description, the security lamp on bulb is not amber, but flashing red. When on, this lamp flashes at all times. Once the key is inserted and turned to ON, the red flashing lamp turns off.

Fixed the posts

There are individual bulbs for each button on this panel. In the overhead console, there are only 2 bulbs that illuminate the 4 buttons. The SPOT/ DOOR cluster use one bulb and the ROOM/SPOT cluster use one.

The link to Earl's bulb list would indicate that each button has its own illumination bulb, funny, since I have no illumination on either of those three buttons. All burned out at the same time?

Interesting about your 92s, did both Parking brake switches in your Pearls have the companion heated mirror switch (LS-L)?

If not, maybe that is the difference?

svxcess

Yes, both were LS-L's with heated mirrors.

Whe you pull out the switch clusters from the dash, the illumination bulbs are inside the BROWN sockets. They are the ones closest to the face of the switch panel. Just unscrew 1/4 turn to remove, using a small screwdriver.

Thw BLUE sockets towards the rear house the indicator lights. I have never had to replace those.

Mystery about the 92 Parking switch, In time, I'll report on the switches in our other 92s..

Almost as much of a mystery as the leather steering wheels on the 92's. Some had four seams while some only had two...

Okay, you got me again, I missed that one ,
now something else to check out when/if the 92s find the way home.

My JDM with radio controls is a two seam, just as Joe reported his, but I doubt I would have figured it out without reading your last post :).

Perhaps the US two-seamers don't have an amber bulb in the parking switch, it's an early 92 thing?

With the help of this thread I changed my foglight, security, rear defrost and hazard illumination dash lights. The bulbs were $1.88 for a 2 pack at Radio Shack. There is something deeply satisfying about fixing those little buggers.

Plus I got 2 compliments on my STI wheels. It was a good SVX day.

what was the Shack part number for the illumination bulbs?

#7219 Micro Lamp
12 Volts 60ma Wire terminal base

item number 272-1092

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103780

You will reuse the brown base, wrap the wire terminals around the base the same way it was before you removed the bulb. Clip off the excess, slide the green plastic sleeve over the bulb and put it back in the switch.

So noticed that I need to change the illumination light on the power mirror arrows. I pulled it off the dash, but I can't see where the bulb goes. Does the switch need to be disassembled further to get at the bulb?

My 92 LS-L Pearl has lighted arrows, and an amber Parking switch bulb :).
my 92 JDM VL Pearl doesn't have either, for whatever reason .

Thanks to SVXCESS, I've been checking it out, thanks John :D

For those who have replaced the bulbs in your CC/defrost/security buttons, how the heck did you get the buttons out of the dash. The passenger's side bank came off no problem, but it feels like I'm going to snap the Driver's side bank in half when I try to pull them out.

Any suggestions on how to nurse the buttons out of the dash without resorting to the "Hulk Smash" method?

For the one on the drivers side:
Carefully pry up on the left side with the tip of a flat screw driver till it starts coming out. Once you get it a little ways out, it will leave a slight gap, re-adjust the blade of the screw driver so that goes in a little further and can pry with a little more force. Then with your other hand, pull up on the right side while continuing to use the screwdriver to pry up the left side.

At least that is what worked for me. :)
