.

Today I decided to move my rear spoiler back. I was bored, and had nothing better to do. :p

Here's the HOW-TO:

1. Before (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13154.jpg)

2. Unscrew these nuts (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13156.jpg) (red arrows)

3. Spoiler removed (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13157.jpg)

4. Spoiler off the car (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13158.jpg)

5. To drill the new holes, i used a different sized bits to gradually enlarge the hole, so as to not damage the paint around the new holes. Also, putting masking tape over where the new hole will come through will drastically reduce the chance of the paint chipping off around the hole...Drill Bits (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13171.jpg)

6. Drill a hole at the yellow arrow, (on both sides) (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13156.jpg)..Like this. (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13159.jpg)

7. Next, put the spoiler back on so it fits in the back holes. The studs on the spoiler will leave a little scratch mark where the new holes for the front studs need to go...Like this (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13160.jpg)

8. Drill the new holes. (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13161.jpg)

....Top Side (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13163.jpg)

9. (Optional, but recommended): I covered the holes with old pieces of vinyl i had laying around, Covers (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13164.jpg) and filled the back in with ...Silicone caulk (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13161.jpg).

10. Then, put the spoiler back on, using your newly-created holes, and bolt it on. BUt you will encounter an issue.

...PROBLEM:..The bolt for the back is not long enough to be able to thread the nut back on.

...SOLUTION:..Turn the nut around, and tighten with vise-grips or other pliers.

....Result (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13166.jpg)

....Result on other side (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13165.jpg)

11. Step back, and enjoy.

....New Right (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13167.jpg)

....New Left (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13168.jpg)

....Movement Measurement (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13170.jpg)

....Final Product (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/Bwana/13169.jpg)

NOTE: You can see how much "new" paint shows in the "New Right" picture.

It's not that noticeable, but that's probably because I keep my paint in excellent condition, and I have taken off the spoiler to clean under there before. I will probably take it off one more time before snow hits to make sure everything's protected against salt and nasty stuff.

As far as the old hole in the front showing... the edge of the hole is JUST under the spoiler. You cant see the hole, but you can see the vinyl I used to cover it. So definitely make sure you cover or fill in the old hole, or you might get a wet trunk.

Hope this helps anyone wanting to do this.

Thank you, and I will add it to the How-To Locker. You did a great job. I really do like it better moved back. It does a lot for only being moved so little. It makes the car look more sleek. :)

Very nice. I want to see it in person one of these days.

The spoiler doesn't make me all that jealous, but the clean garage does.:D

j/k on the spoiler, looks like an excellent job, and the back edge of the spoiler lines up much better with the line of the trunk from a side view - always did think that was screwed up on the US version.

How much fresh paint is showing, aka how much is my paint gonna look like crap :) Also, does the old screw hole stick out past the spoiler, or is it covered?
looks good

Lwin, you should come out to one of the NASIOC meets we have every Thursday. Great bunch of guys, and im sure you would fit right in with all your technical jargon you could talk about. ;) :D

Since it's getting colder, and we cant meet outside comfortably, we have moved to a Denny's in Addison, right off 355.
The normal meeting place for warm weather is at Borders on Golf road, across the street from Woodfield. (there's a nordstroms, and some other places...)

Check out the MW forum on www.nasioc.com if you wanna come.

Just curious.. Why would you go through the trouble of moving your spoiler back a few inches? is there any change in drag or whatever, or just to make it look "better"? Personally I think its a waste of time... but personally, I'm also an ass :p

Right now, I have 2 (winter/summer) But this is my 3rd set of rims (not counting stock, and winter).

I had the Moda's I got from Mike (BLKSVX92). ("8-25-02 Moda Rims" folder in my locker.)

Also had the Quantum Tech rims in the "4-27-03 SVX/A4" folder.
