fuel filter

Well I'm continueing the fixing up of my recently purchased 94 lsi. I haven't gotten my shop manual for it yet but I'm going ahead and doing the obvious easy maintenance. For one thing i'm replacing all the filters with new factory ones from svxparts.com. On the fuel filter it's marked in and out as I'm accustomed to but the filter that is on my car looks to be in backwards. The in hose is facing the engin and the out hose is facing the rear of the car. Am I wrong or is my car wrong?

I did the same filter change on my Legacy recently and ran into the same confusion. To me, it seemed that the filter markings were misleading as to which one is "in" and "out". When I positioned it the way that it was originally, this confusion became apparent. I think that the labels are located on the outer and inner "ring" stamped into the fuel lid. I think that they correspond to the fittings which are also on the outer and inner ring. That is my recollection but I may be all wet here.
