Car is at the shop, mechanic says it needs a new power steering pump.
Does anyone know the part number for the pump? I can't find it...

I am looking at this:

http://www.subaruparts.com/subaru.diag/2/i346-A1.gif
http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?model=2&year=1992&style=4WD&body=&scn=3&category=346-A1

Which one is the pump?
Is it the piece that says see figure "348-A"
Which leads me to "Oil pump" 34411PA001?

Is this the same thing?

Anyways, I just need a confirmation that this is the "power steering pump" that I need before I order it...

Oh, sorry, didn't see the part of your post below the picture, and thought you just needed the part number. :o

From the pictures, it looks like the pump you linked is correct.

The pump is different for "road speed" and for "engine speed". Make sure you order the right one.

I have a 92 LSL (X35 vin), so vehicle speed sensitive.
I don't see 2 different pumps listed anywhere. Every site I have check says 1992 all submodels all engines.
Is there actually 2 different pumps? All I can find is the 34411PA001 one.

IF you have an LS-L, LSi, (leather, touring package) you have the electronic vehicle speed-sensitive power steering.

All other models came with the engine (RPM) sensitive steering.

Vehicle speed sensitive is much more accurate and responsive for precise driving.

The pump is different for the two, the pressure control valve is different. The RPM one has a three stage flow valve in it, to control the pressure, as the rpm rises. The Elect. has a single stage valve, in it as the solenoid is used to control the pressure.

That link tells me HTTP ERROR 400. It wont pull the page up..
After going through another 60 pages.. I found this on page 230 of the 92-94 book:
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad73/Lookin4SVX/powersteeringpump_zpscaba2ed4.jpg

After searching for the 2 parts with dots under 92, I find that they don't exist.
34411PA000 has been superseded by 34411PA001
34411PA010 has been superseded by 34411PA071
Which is probably why the mechanics computer kept telling him the part is not available...

Can someone confirm that the LSI pump for 94 and Later #34411PA071 is correct for a 92LSL??

Onto the next half my problem....
Searching autozone for either of these part numbers cross references me to the same pump.. Duralast 5242...

34411PA001

34411PA071
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad73/Lookin4SVX/34411PA071_zps4dcd3da0.png

How can the duralast pump be the same pump for both part numbers if they are different?

The 94 LSi pump and the 92 LS-L pump should be the same. Vehicle speed sensitive.

I seem to remember a newer design for the high pressure P/S hose in later years. Just a minor change. Someone here can clarify this. They are all the newer design now.

Yes, the lines are interchangeable. So a speed sensitive from a 92 will also work on a 94+ speed sensitive with the modified/new design line.

Am I the only one besides Lookin4SVX who finds this thread extremely confusing. Too many different apples and oranges are being thrown into the blender.:confused::confused:

SPEED-Sensitive Power Steering Pump
1992 LS-L
1993 AE
1994 - 1997 LSi

ENGINE-Sensitive (RPM) Power Steering Pump
1992 LS
1994 - 1995 L and LS
1996- 1997 L

ALL high-pressure P/S hoses (either old or new design) fit ALL pumps. Only the newer redesign hose is available new from Subaru.

Basically if your car came from the factory with leather, you have speed-sensitive.

Does anyone know what the deal is that duralast pump?
What are the chances it is the one for the LSi?
I really don't want to spend $410 on a new one...

I ordered my struts and mounts from liberty subaru, so at least that part is taken care of.
$765 for the 4 struts and 2 rear mounts, my local dealer quote was $1056 for the same parts.
I got the front mounts off a member here that decided to aftermarkets, still new in the bag.
Also putting in engine mounts, SS brake lines, perrin lightweight pulley, and them QS Teflon Kevlar rod ends for nevins rear swaybar.

Now all I need is the power steering pump.

The pump is quite easy to rebuild. Also there is a member here (SomethingElse) that sells rebuilt ones and then you send him your core.
I should have mentioned it at the beginning of this thread.
He charges $110.00 shipped plus $40.00 core.

P.S. I found it:http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50918&highlight=power+steering+pump

Why not just have Eric "somethingelse" rebuilt one for you? He will charge you for a core, which he will refund to you once he gets yours back. $110.00 shipped plus $40.00 core charge.

Easy, no down time and rebuilt with OEM Subaru parts.

Yeah, I sent him a PM.
His post says paypal money to be sent as a gift, which means he can screw me and I have no recourse.
I got burned like that before... gifted money, they sent nothing...

I would rather get it from a retailer and pick it up than deal with paypal... (nothing personal somethingelse)

Napa site has 2 pumps:
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad73/Lookin4SVX/napa2pumps_zpsf87e33e9.png

When I check the LS-L submodel one of them comes off the list.
Website says this is the pump for a 92 LS-L.

http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad73/Lookin4SVX/NapaPump_zps76943295.png

The pump from cardone and duralast, autozone, and advanced auto, all say "all engines, all submodels"
At least napa lets me select my submodel and then shows me only 1 pump, going down there tomorrow to find out...

Blacky

He has sold them to many, many members. There is absolutely no way you would get screwed. A gift means he doesn't loose a percentage to Paypal.

Good to hear, reputation means a lot to me.
I have been going through his old posts and he seems legit to me.
If the pump from napa is the wrong pump, I will most definitely consider picking one up of somethingelse.

Ordered the part from napa, had them check the pump for an Lsi, same part number. They said if its wrong just bring it back for a refund.
$98 after AAA discount, 3-5 days to get it, got my fingers crossed.

So.. today napa calls me and tells me that they can't get the pump...

This is after their website tells me that it is in their warehouse..
Then the guy at the parts desk tells me it has to be special ordered..
Now the tell me the distributor for the pumps has no cores...
Now it is "send out for rebuild and return only"..

So pissed off right now...

Rockauto & advanced, the cardone pump, is also send out for rebuild and return only.
Autozone duralast pump also same thing..

SomethingElse has not responded to my PM, but he has not been on since the 17th.

SVX92-97, I sent you a pm, I think I am just going to buy your used one, since your local.
