Recognize these calipers?

Ok right now I am into the calipers around $250 total which includes tearing down and resealing
They are the aluminum version 30mm z32 calipers which can be had rebuilt for around the same price. I have confirmed that the 326mm sti rotor can fit with fairly minimal grinding of the caliper and around 2mm grinding off top edge of the pad. Now i just need to test fit and determine how far off my measurements are and double check the offset and I should be able to get an updated bracket made in the near future.

$250 calipers
$130 pair of centric premium rotors
$57 stoptech pads

im estimating if i can get brackets build for around $200 a pair

we are looking at around $650 total

looking good so far. any plans for a decal?

finally got the 1st bracket made and ill test fit it up tomorrow hopefully. After grinding away at the rotor channel a few mm the pad should only sit around 2mm high on the sti rotor. I will be able to remove that easily from the pad.

this should be a pretty affordable upgrade and i should be able to get brackets build for around $200 a set if there is any demand.

You're in Tallahassee? Gene in Jacksonville I bet would be interested in a set of these, he has expressed interest in a BBK before. I might be too. What years/trims of 300zx do these calipers come from? Or a part number? And what year/models for pads and rotors? What part exactly of the pads would need to be removed and how do you do that?

Might want to get the bracket now or whenever you could have them made, and then shop for the rest later. I'm going to kick around the idea for a bit and see what the overall cost would be...

UP 880356 part # for front rotors $64 each
the calipers are the z32 300zx TT calipers. I believe all TT calipers were 30mm although the later years were iron instead of aluminum

rock auto has centric reman which appear to be aluminum by the photo for $155 without core
14142074
14142073

you can get the cardone reman for as low as $105 each but id pay a little more

pads for all years 300zx are the same

Seems like there's a lot of unused surface area on that rotor (towards the inside). Any worries about warping due to the heat difference over the rotor?

no worries of warping due to heat differences. And there will be unused space on the inside of the rotor the calipers and pad size is used on the r32 gts and z32 which uses 280mm and 296mm rotors.

and the photo of the rotor and caliper the caliper is sitting higher by a few mm. This was taken prior to me grinding the caliper which dropped the caliper about 4mm

What are the brackets made of? After you test fit them on your car, if everything looks good and they fit under the BBS wheels, I'll take a set. (I have the same BBS wheels as you, so if they clear yours they'll clear mine).

Oh such a bummer!

My immediate response to looking at the pics was "exactly how much more surface area does this provide over stock?" As mentioned in an earlier post, the mod appears to be rather straightforward

Indeed.

More importantly what is the improvement? How does the hydraulic area of this caliper compare with the area of the OEM caliper? What is the ratio of caliper piston area to master cylinder bore?

It is possible to go too far. Then you end up with long pedal travel and very little modulation range.
