i recently inquired about buying a 97 grille for my 92 and the parts manager from subaru told me that the newer style grille doesn't fit the 92. Is this true?

The parts manager is WRONG!!! I have a 1992 and I put the 97 grille into it. (See my personal locker for photos or the avatar at the left of this post. The '97 grille pops right inplace without any problem. The only difference is the 92 has 1 clip at each end of the grille and the '97 grille has 2 extra clips near the center. You don't need them (and there are no holes for them to go into anyway) Just remove the 2 clips from the center of the '97 grille and save them. Once again, the '97 grille will fit into the 92 opening perfectly!

The '97 grille is 129.00 plus shipping from www.subaruparts.com

(I have since taken out the 9'7 grille and put the original one back in. I sold it to another club member, Mike Novosel (nubsjr) to put in his '92.)

Remenber that the grille for the 97 SVX (part no. 91065PA050NN) comes UNPAINTED. The center portion of the grille mesh is already painted black, but the surrounding body of the grille is a medium gray unpainted plastic. This is a high quality finish that needs just a light sanding to prepare it for paint.

For those who are interested in the Chrome '97 grille that was made for the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) it is available. Check the "Japanese Parts" thread in General SVX Babble for more details.

John is right, the only thing that is different is the extra mounting holes. They are not needed. My 92 grille is in right now without any of the upper clips, and it really does not even need them to stay in.:)

I am looking at the accord grill (the european model) I think it might fit. It about the same size. Time to go to the junkyards when my car is fixed.
