Well Southwest SVXers, we just held a mini-meet at my place in Roseville last Thurs/Fri. In attendance were myself, Ron (NeedForSpeed), David (dbarnblatt) and Paul Dexler, and the aim was to install Koni struts into David's low mileage, Brilliant Red '97. I had the Konis in hand and cut 3 of the 4 strut-bodies donated by Ron, and installed the inserts as well as assembled the 3 assemblies. Our plan was to document the removal and reinstallation of the struts, as well as the process of drilling/cutting/and inserting the Koni insert into the prepared body, using the final (front) body to assemble the complete strut to model the job.

Well, now that I've got your interest, here's a few pics after completion of the job, and a little tease, COMING SOON SoCal Meet with focus on the SVX!!!

I'm sure my friends will want to chime in, and plans are to post it all up for use by the community, so watch for more.

Agreed,

everyone had a great time, between work on the red '97, the California rain, etc.

Thanks for the kind comment, but Glenn was the true star, providing the venue, the serious labor, beds for everyone, and picking out a fun place to eat. I was merely supporting cast, pulling out the interior and making a mess of things, something I do well.

The reward was hanging out with friends new and old, and, seeing two pristine 97s parked in the driveway.

Also, the observation that SVXes are appreciated by a diverse group. My son David, in his 20's, picked me up in our '92 metallic TEAL SVX, David in his early 40's, Ron early 50's, Glenn barely in his 60's, and Paul early 70's.
Our group was truly a 'family' reunion :)

Thanks guys, looking forward to the next adventure in SoCal :D

Aside from great friendships, and an improved car, the other major result of the mini-meet in Roseville was the positive determination to have a real SouthWest meeting later this year in Los Angeles. The plan is to gather on Saturday, April 17 at the Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, and then have a meeting on the outside deck of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on the following day. So far, the April 17-18 dates don't conflict with events at either of the two venues, and preliminary talks indicate that the powers that be at both museums would be happy to have us. So come on, SoCal SVXers, we've got four cars already, let's see how many we can get. I'll be the contact point. As we get closer to the date, we can work out details of where to stay, eat, etc.

How about a trade? You can take your SVX to the shop (where mine is now) and I'll go riding in B.C.

Deal?

But seriously... I took my car in for a new front axle to Doug's Legacy Auto in Van Nuys. My buddy just had his brat worked on there, and if this goes well we might finally have a local shop that's worth a damn. I've heard some great reviews, and the guy seemed really excited about my car being there. They specialize in Soobs and Doug said he had plenty experience with SVXs before "they all seemed to dissapear."

I'll keep y'all posted.

That's freakin awesome! On a side note, I was born in Roseville! Also, my aunt, uncle, and two cousins live there. The oldest one, Tray, just got hired as the new bowling coach for Roseville High! I haven't been down there in like, 8 years though. (Frick, has it really been that long? sheesh, I need to get out more lol...)
