I know most people on this site are againest modding the SVX but I like my cars to look crisp and new so I have been doing a lot of stuff to the car to really update the look.

For the interior I just picked up some permanent leather dye from

http://www.nuleather.com/index.html

I am changing the grey leather in my 92 to BLACK as well as the dash and I will be dying the suede black as well. They grey is really out dated in my opinion and changing it to black will REALLY make a difference.

I got the kit from that site (DELUX) for around 70$ shipped to canada. It should be here in a few days and then I will post some pictures of the color change process

I highly suggest you try it first on a "spare" SVX leather before you ruin your interior.
You want to change the leather in your car? Contact motorsportwarehouse.com (Dayle), he has a nice selection of seat covers just for the SVX.

This is my .02c, the rest is up to you.

Well my interior in mine is technically my spare set. It IS in great shape but my other SVX's seats are absolutly mint (no wear at all).

I would be trying it on the worse of the 2 sets.

The cost of the leather inteior ($900 US) is a little more then im looking to spend on seat covers right now. Maybe once I'm done university I'll have a little more disposable income and then go to one of their nice sets.

also i don't mind taking risks and potentially ruining stuff on my car so that other people can see if it works or not, it's only a car.

I have NEVER seen the escaine/ alcantara "suede" panels dyed successfully. The dyes tend to make it matted and stiff, not soft like true black suede. The sheen is also uneven.

If you were really intent on an all black interior, I would get the dash pieces for under the steering wheel, glove box, dash pad and the front and rear armrests from an L model SVX. These were vinyl and would take the dye coating much better.

Maybe that is why the pace car had the magenta vinyl panels. They couldn't seem to find a way to bleach and re-dye the suede ones.

ya the suede was my worry. Im going to try some of the suede dye on a spare glove box I have and it it is stiff, im just going to leave that part grey until i can afford to wrap it in real BLACK suede

I have thought about this a bit myself...

I have a garnet red pearl over black leather Legacy... and like that color combo better than the nice, but subdued Claret paint, and the dated medium gray interior.

The paint needs to be redone, as the clearcoat is delaminating, and is almost gone on the roof... but the roof will stay black, anyway... but I was thinking about color-changing the claret to Garnet Red.

But part of that would be converting the interior to black. I was thinking about saving up for one of Dayle's leather kits. My car's leather is as sun-damaged as the paint is... and seam split on both the driver's seat, and the rear seat back.

I want to change the dash pieces to L-model gray, or otherwise custom painted... if I can figure out how to keep the HVAC control labels, preferably still backlit.

But then I would probably try to dye the smooth vinyl interior parts black...
Clean and dye the carpeting black...
Possibly replace the steering wheel with a later model Legacy or STI-red-stitched black three-spoke steering wheel, with the cruise stalk...
A custom leather shift boot if I ever do go to a manual gearbox conversion...
fully re-cover the seats in black leather,
and figure out if the door cards, and the dash pad parts can be re-wrapped in new alcantara. (synthetic microfiber suede, not natural leather suede)

Maybe I would do white guages, or silver gauge-rings, or something to dress up the instrument panel, as well...

The question is... do I want the interior to be ALL black, or do I want to do something more custom... like dark red alcantara on the dash, doors, and perforated red alcantara seat center panels with heated seats... with dark red SVX embroidered logo just under the headrests on the front seatbacks...

But I would probably try to wait until I could afford to properly re-cover the seats that need it anyway... And probably around the same time as the body is getting re-painted without the interior installed... then having the drivetrain conversion to 6MT/Torsen diff, and Koni/GC coilovers... Major project creep, and I am sure it would go much farther than that.

Today, I would be satisfied to be able to find a wheel stud and lug to get the car back to normal... so the restoration work will have to wait. :D

Good luck, though, Paynter. I am very interested in seeing your progress. Please post pics.

The pace car also seems to have manual knob adjustments on the driver's seat, rather than power... maybe it started life as an L-trim car for that reason...

Im a big fan of red on the SVX.

My 92 is the green color but it is hurting bad. I spraying it this weekend Copper Red for a 2008 Mazda MX-5. I decided to just use a single stage acrylic paint as it's my first time spraying a whole car and it's suppose to be easy to spray... unfortunetly red is a PITA to spray because it doesnt cover well at all so im going to have to do like 5 coats.

The pace car also seems to have manual knob adjustments on the driver's seat, rather than power... maybe it started life as an LS-trim car for that reason...

The LS model did not come with a sunroof. That only came as part of the LS-L touring package.

The pace car was definitely an LS-L. The 5-7th numbers X35 in the VIN confirm this

And the 067 color code tells us it started out as a pearlie!!

All the other gray plastic trim pieces around the power window switches and the dashboard seem to be from the cheaper LS model as well.

But then again this was an early prototype.
