I have just picked up these second hand '05 STi wheels. They were coverd in break dust and had heaps of tar spots on them. Pretty happy with the way the cleaned up. What size tyres do you think would be best. I was thinking 225/45/17. Cam, LegacyAu has put 235/45/17 on his. I am interested in your thoughts on tyre selection for the STi rims. Thanks Col

Are those the 17x7.5 or 17x8 version? On the 7.5" wide I would stick to the 225/45/17 size. With the 8" wide you could go up to a 245/40/17 if you want, although stock STi size on those is still 225/45. I have the 17x8 STi goldies on my car and run 245/40/17 General Exclaim UHP's.

The 7.5" are the '04 rims and are 5x100. The '05+ rims only come in 8".

Those are STi limited wheels which mean they are '06+ (which are still 17x8 with a 5x114.3 pattern).

Weight? By weight do you think they meant to say money?

The stock tires they come with are the RE-070's ina 225/45/17... Those are great tires, but when mine die I will be replacing them with 245/40/17's brand still undecided.....

Hi,
My STi wheels came with good Kumho Ecsta MX 245/40/17. They haven't rubbed yet, and ride pretty good. They also stop verrrry good on dry pavement (btw- OT brake kit) I almost put myself through the windshield trying to get the ABS to activate.

Well, those are the limited wheels, which makes them the Enkeis (rather than BBS), which only came from the factory in silver. So, I'd say they were painted by the owner, thus the incomplete coverage. Good looking wheel in gold, though! Nice choice.

As far as tires...what are you looking for? Handling? Smooth ride? Quiet? I'd go with a 245/40/17 personally just because I like the look.

Cheap tire: BFG G-force Sport
Grippy but relatively cheap: Falken Azenis RT615
Grippy, expensive, loud: Bridgestone RE070 (these may only come in 225/45 and 255/40)

How do you know they are the limited? I believe that BBS was bought out by enkei or vice versa but the name is still used.....

yes they are enkie wheels but mine are painted the same gold colour with only the front side properly coated and almost no gold towards the inside of the wheel

I may be wrong but I thought thaat the '05 and '06 STi that came to Australia all had the Gold Enkeis.

Based on Cam's wheels and mine perhaps they left the Enkei factory in silver as suggested by SVX10 and were then given a gold finish?

Cheers

One of the great things about life is that we all have different views and opinions.

Personally I really like the STi rims plus their specs create a perfect fit. I read somewhere buried in an old post where someone showed two pics of a Pearlie with black top sitting on the Enkeis and another set of rims. The member used the words that the SVX looked 'heavy' (or words to that effect) on the other wheels and that it looked lighter and more suited on the Enkeis. I must say I totally agree and can't wait to get mine fitted once the spray job is finished.

Cheers

Please post pics in a thread when you are finished with it. I'd love to see what they look like without gold paint and on a pearlie..

The BBS have more of a stepped "circumference". The grooves in the spokes are a bit shorter also, meaning they don't extend as far into the center portion of the wheel.

Not sure if the Aussie versions had gold or not. Didn't see the screen name :)

Yes Enkei did purchase the BBS name, since BBS is such a big name in racing and the like, they still manufacture them under that name though.

The STi limited and JDM STi wheels do come with the Enkei brand name stamped on them.

Edit: Just the same as SVX10, I didn't realize we weren't talking USDM :o
