View Full Version : Kangamangus Foliage Meet and Drive Sep. 29th

Okay people we've managed one small outing. How about a second? The itch to get the NH SVX comunity to do more things has gotten to myself, RideRed777, and K____Sama and here's a great oppertunity to take a nice drive, meet, talk, and at very least get out of the house to see the trees. As we've had a fairly dry summer the trees have started to turn a bit early and a nice late September drive should do the trick just right.
From RideRed777 researching place on the map he's found mile marker51, NB rest area on 93 as the best option to gather. 10 AM show up time and an estimated 11-12 launch time. Should be easy enough to get too and a convenient place to start from. We have two main options on the drive route. With a third being a full sweep.
1. 112 the souther route. Shorter but with less time being taken up by 93.
2. 302. With more time on 93 but a over all longer trip and more time to enjoy the run.
3. 93 to 302, back down 112. This would be a full White Mountain loop, but gives a fuller appreciation for the cars and surroundings. Down side of being very long.
We'll take a general consencous or what people want to do before we leave and any who want to brake off and head out early along the way are free to. This is mostly just a rough planning and accomidations can be made to the help others fit their scheduals. Plenty of opertunities to stop for food. Suggestions are welcome on places to stop. Anywhere on the route is fair game. We'll likely employ a phone chain and eye contact to stay organized on the road. Any questions post'em and we'll be glad to answer what we can.

I'm pretty excited for this drive, not going to lie...
Kangamangus is a beautiful run, especially if we can have the time to do the loop all the way around the mountains. There will be stops for food, gas, and of course, beauty shots, of our attractive cars with beautiful scenery.
Might as well get the list going...

We'll keep that in mind. Was thinking about (obviously, depending on the success of this trip) doing another drive end of October-ish on Rt.100, a great run up through VT. But let me know the exact dates you'd be available and I'll try and plan it so you can get in on it... :)

You know all this drooling you might need a horsefeed bag full of spunges! Anywho... Small problem for me. I was just reminded my fiance's birthday party dinner is that night so i might only be able to make it for the first leg of the run depending on time and when she gets things planned. So mostly once we decide which route we're taking I'll know how far on the run I'm going. I will make it though. Well I'll keep you guys posted on my situation.

I'll still make it down just not sure how long I'll be sticking with the run before turning back. Should be plenty far though. I really want to get a good look at the SCed setup. After my Impreza's done and I can afford it I'd like to do a SC on my SVX. Turbo with the SVX doesn't seem to work as well. Doesn't matter though I'll probably be giving the car over to my Nephue by the time I'm done with the Impreza and would be able to afford it. LOL:lol:......:o

Hmm. To be honest, I don't know off the top of my head. I know there are 2 major rest stops, one if right after the toll booths and I believe has a major liquor store at it. Originally, we were going to meet there, but when I cross-referanced my map, I realized it was south of Sama (in Sunapee), and that being a north-bound exit makes it a PITA for him to get to. So, the next one up should be your rest stop. By far the best marker for this one, would be that it is right after mile marker 51. I don't know how long its going to take me to get there either, and usually we chat for a while in the parking lot... especially if sicksubie gets there on time, we'll all be drooling over his car!
So if you're a little late, don't worry. I'm not a Nazi, we'll wait for you:cool::p

We're asking the same questions... I thought David (SeraphinWolf) was going to look into getting at least kureko sama to come. Black beast hasn't been on the forums in a while I don't think, if you check NH sightings I met his brother and haven't heard from him.

I'm going to try hard to make it to the meet this Saturday. Maybe I'll integrate it with camping up north somewhere for the night...I dunno. I usually work on Saturdays at the garage but for an SVX meet I might just take the day off.
My car is certainly not what I'd call "meet quality" but I like to go anyway. Hey, with 260K+ miles what do you expect, right?
The Rest Area is between northbound exits 18 and 19.
Has anyone decided which route will be taken for the drive? I s'pose it doesn't matter too much to me if I take the day off.
I have a pair of inexpensive single channel FRS radios that we can use on the road if needed. I'll get in touch with a buddy of mine who has a silver '92 in Exeter and see if he wants to go as well. I don't think he's a member here.

Hello Jay,
Great to hear from you! Thank you very much for enlightening all of us about where the rest area is - I don't know the road THAT well, and the maps won't tell me, no matter how many times I ask them...!:D
Don't worry, my car only has 116k and isn't meet quality compared to these other ones. If only I wasn't on such a budget...
The route we'll take will be decided when we get there. The first post outlines the options. Personally, I want to do the long one... :)
The radio's are a nice sentiment, and you should probably bring them just in case. But so far we've communicated via phone if theres an emergency or the like, and its worked well. I prefer the "follow the leader" method, and we pick a time frame to stop for whatever it is that is needed, and just trust person in front to pick a good stop. If there's mutiny and someone or multiple people have a reason to disagree, we hop back in the car and try again - probably with a new leader! :p
Let me know if your friend from Exeter is coming when you find out, so I can post up an updated list of who's coming.

Hey are 92 wingless right? Works right off exit 9 on RT27? If yes I've seen him a couple times on the road. But yeah quality of the cars condition isn't the key on this run it's mostly just getting people together. Craig's BADLY needs to get painted. You'll see what I mean when you show up(not if but when).

Hey! A good portion of the cars paint is ok... there are just some glaringly gross spots on it. But, I got the paint! I went to Robbins and had them custom mix it, then I gotta fix the rust on the doors and paint then and the wing. I fixed the paint on the window trim panels, you'll see what I mean at our meet! :)

Yeah, his is wingless. I'm not sure exactly where in Exeter he works though. He's got black 17" wheels for the summer and snows on his stock wheels in the winter. I think we'll both be able to make it.

I may be screwed for this now. I changed my oil this evening after my dyno pulls today. Also decided to put the bigger pulley on at the same time. When I was swapping the belts I noticed my alternator bracket was cracked. Loosening the assembly made it crack further and fall off. I now have no alternator on my car. I have spent the last 6 hours now trying to fab a new one but to no avail. I am getting up very early and taking the cracked bracket to a garage and I am going to have them weld it back. Then Reinstall my alternator shower and leave. So, I may be late but I will be there if I can get this fixed.

Got a place to weit for me but they cant't do it till between 8 and 8:30. I am going to sleep for a few minutes until then then go have them do it. The garage is only about 10 minutes away so I should be back by 8:30 and should be able to leave around 9-915. That would put me at the rest stop at about 10:30-10:40

You sure? We waited till quarter after 12, at which point everyone was getting restless for having been at a reststop for 2 hrs with nothing to do... sorry. We hoped you would call Gaddis to let us know if something was up (or something to that affect), but to no avail.
Well that being said, it was a pretty successful cruise - even though only 2/3's of the people made it. I got a TON of pictures, mainly all of the same thing, the cars on the Kangamangus taking turns with the foliage. I'll do an initial dump of the ones that are horrible/out of focus, put the rest on simplepic.net and get the linky up here as well as in Huck's calender page for everyone to look at.
Had a great time guys, hope to do it again, with less tiredness from working 11pm-5am two nights and no sleep for many many moons.
My thoughts for the next trip would be early November, Rt. 100 into VT. When I start getting details hammered out I'll start a new thread.

 Wish I read this sooner.
I've been at the garage all day, we got the keys at about noon, but it still wasn't much help. We were gonna start dragging it, but I had a hard time scratching up the underside of someone elses car. ...even if it was already a mess. I got most of it back together, just need a tie rod and a wheel&tire (you should see this thing)... it's enough to move it around now.
I took the exhaust off the SVX and tweaked with it a bit. Sits in the car a little better now, but the driver tail pipe now is cocked to the side  I can't win today. I'm gonna go back to mess with the trim/sound system in a bit. Gonna rip out the old legacy head unit that i was using on the "temp"... and install the carputer i had in my other legacy.
I hope sicksubie is okay. Given my situation, I would have gladly thrown my welder in the leg and helped him out in exchange for riding shotgun. I should have read this thread before heading over to the shop this morning :(

Yeah I just looked back through my PM's... the end digits are "5815", not "5821"... I really don't know what I was on when I wrote that.
Hopefully next time. Ditto on wanting to help him out, I had no clue you shredded your belts, I have a spare set, except for the s/c belt obviously... I guess thats what happens when you tighten it enough to get some real boost outta it... :(

Here is why I said murphy's law
I am changing the crank pulley last night and notice that my alternator bracket is cracked. I figure that I can still make it work and that I will just be gentle. It then proceeds to crack off completely. I figure I will call my friend who has a MIG, he is in Maine. I decide to fab up a new one. My compressor blows a gasket. I fix the gasket. Then I start cutting some L-channel for the bracket. My last cutting wheel fragments. I start using a hack saw. The hack saw breaks. I say "screw it" and go to bed at 3:30am:mad:

Well i know I had fun. Mostly on the way up as the way back me and Craig got stuck behind a real slowpoke and everytime my foot headed to the pedal I saw reds. Once we got back on 93 it was nice and smooth though. Hit just over a 100 and then just over 115 after getting annoyed with a Jetta trying to be funny. I like the VT idea but we'll have to poll to see when people have off. And give time to let people schedual it in. Too bad Craig lost his sunglasses. Kinda funny watching some guy after we gave up looking to find them. Don't know what he was thinking, maybe, "Hey I'd like some sun glasses." LOL I'll try to get my pics up some point. I"m pretty behind on that. Later all
