So whats going on with this meet?
There are 48 slots on the sign up thread, and only 4 on the hotel confirmation list...........

Have any activities been planed? Has Subaru been contacted about the meet?

Is this meet even going to really happen?

Or are 4 or 5 SVX's going to show up in Lafayette and be sitting in a hotel parking lot doing nothing..................

Have any activities been planned? Nothing official except maybe a tour of the Lafayette plant.

Has Subaru been contacted about the meet? I don't believe so. Subaru was involved long before this during the 10th. I don't even think they know we plan on coming

Is this meet even going to really happen? As I said here almost a year ago, as a true Meet, I still give it a 0-25% chance of actually happening!

See my sentiments and those of others in THIS THREAD (http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32942&page=4)

Or are 4 or 5 SVX's going to show up in Lafayette and be sitting in a hotel parking lot doing nothing. Standing around, taking photos, shooting the breeze, whatever

I guess you can officially remove me from that list.

Rosie and I are not going to attend the 15th Anniversary SVX Meet either.

But, I expect a larger turnout for the 20th Anniversary Meet than there was for the 10th Anniversary Meet (96 SVXes) because John Earl and myself are goin to run it. John and Earl, you've just been volunteered.since I can't do it alone anymore.

I want a minimum of 115 SVXes at the 20th.

The lack of enthusiasm is giving me cold feet, especially when you are investing up to a grand to go.
The annual TurboBrick meet is is 2 weeks and they have car show, track day, dynos, Saturday night party and more set up.

The hotel reservation cutoff date has passed. Any new reservations will be made at 95.00-105.00/night, instead of the $72.00 group rate that was negotiated.

According to their current availability, there are not a lot of rooms left for these dates. See the room availability HERE (http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/Availability?sid=9RxKg.2uhidg_Hxg.5)

My comments are in RED

Have any activities been planned? Nothing official except maybe a tour of the Lafayette plant.

Has Subaru been contacted about the meet? I don't believe so. Subaru was involved long before this during the 10th. I don't even think they know we plan on coming

Or are 4 or 5 SVX's going to show up in Lafayette and be sitting in a hotel parking lot doing nothing. Standing around, taking photos, shooting the breeze, maybe a tour, whatever...

I have looked at the original signup sheet, the actual number of rooms reserved vs. the actual number confirmed, the deterrant of increased room costs because of the reservation cutoff, and a comparison of the enthusiasm level that was evident 7 weeks before the 10th meet. (go back there and refresh your memory)

With no formula to follow, except gut instinct, I am afraid that I will have to lower my original 0-25% odds downward to 0-15%. :(

The Maryland SVX Meet ("Reading 8.27") generated a lot more enthusiasm, with a lot less time spent in planning. Autocrosses, maintenance and tech sessions, cookouts and barbeques, live music...

Well, if you hold it somewhere near to the West Coast, Earl will bring his 15 SVXs, so all we need is a commitment for 100 others.

Not so far-fetched. he won the 50/50 raffle at Reading this year. maybe he'll win the SVX next year. If its a '92, it has to be Ebony Pearl.

And he still needs a Brilliant Red, an Emerald Pearl... and of course the Polo!

John,

In PA & DE those plates are called 'antique car'plates.
Also, "ATF Pink" should have some metalflake colored and black sparkles in it, just to be really authentic.

From the anticipated turn out, it needs to be renamed the 15th anniversary MINI meet...............

I'm removing our name from the list as well, as for what is likely going to be a poor turn out isn't worth the Mrs and I burning any vacation time over.

This may be a whole other thread, but I'll plant the seed here and let the debates begin...

Since the SVX was first introduced into the US in July 1991. It seems fitting that the 20th Anniversary should celebrate this date. So sometime in July, 2011 seems appropriate... (unless you want to celebrate the model year, in which case we wait a year longer)

that's around 1417 days, 14hrs

As far as location, it would be interesting to find out what the port of entry was for the first batch, and go from there.

No, Earl... it wasn't Washington...

I'd vote for 2011 for the 20th. After all, the manufacture plate does read 6/91

I'm officially cancelling out of the "15th". My travel budget is shot and to make that commitment to travel all the way out to Lafayette (yes it is a long way from the east coast too) it would have to be something close to what the 10th was. I know - I'm also joining John's chicken little brigade :D

No matter what they called it (1992), I was contemplating celebrating 20 years of the first SVX on the American road. The fact that the first VINs and build dates were in 1991 should count for something. These indicate when the cars were born.

but if you really want to wait another year, I understand... :WTF:

Earl, why don't you give it a new forum? We had the 10th... and the 15th... Then we can start a poll to see if it should be 2011 or 2012? Besides, it would be the most long-tem anticipated event in the history of the network.

Earl & John,
We should be discussing the "what, where, & how."
As in...

WHAT do we have to do to get you interested in helping make this a reality, like you did with the 10th?

WHERE are we ever going to find a location that is suitable, meaningful, and what everyone will agree upon? We chose Lafayette for the 15th mini-meet because all other locations were found not suitable for a variety of reasons.

and wherever and whenever it is...

HOW are you ever going to get 800 jumbo, double-stuffed cannolis all the way from Delaware to the meet...

and still have room for Rosie's shoes?

It might be cool to pick the same weekend that the folks in Japan have their 20th. We could exchange live video over the Internet (since by 2011 all our cars will have wireless high speed service, right? :))

How about two locations in the US, so nobody has to drive more than 1/2 way across the country. More people might stay interested that way.

If you divide the country into thirds and have the western meet in Denver and the eastern meet in St. Louis, the longest trip for anyone is about 1100 miles or so.

The distance between these 2 cities is about that, Same from San Diego to Denver, Seattle to Denver and from Boston to St. Louis and Miami to St. Louis

Members in between these 2 cities could go to either one.

Anyone venture to guess the price of a gallon of gas in 2011?

Maybe... by using a variation from the old west: the "pony express"
(That's one rider and 230 ponies) :p

Route 70 all the way. The 850 mile trip could be done in 9 hours ;)

Anyway Earl, you KNOW your're gonna attend the Eastern meet. Thats where all of the "Reading Rowdyboys" are gonna be.

Surely there are some good Italian bakeries in San Francisco that have really good canolli. So we can have a "taste off" at the 20th Anniversary SVX Meet (I am beginning to like that phrase as much as the 10th Anniv. SVX Meet). Or maybe we can have a "bake off " and just bring the empty canolli shells across country. I can make the filling and stuff the shells (don't anybody go there) at this SVX meet.

What makes you think there will be better event planning for the 20th?....I mean everyone was excited about the 15th right after the 10th....who knows,... this network may not even still be around by 2011 (or 2012)....and many of the long time SVXers may have moved on to a different hobby by then...I mean if we can't even get excited about a anniversary meet now, I only expect it to get worse over time....fewer cars will still be on the road...and fewer of those that are still around will be worthy of a long trek...

Basically I'm just bummed out about the whole ordeal, as I've been looking forward to this meet ever since the 10th....

Not to dis any of our members here, but the ones who started planning this one decided to have it in Sept. I could not go at that time and I know many others could not either. There was very little planning and there aren't any activities. If some of the members who planned the 10th start out planning this now, we will be able to get a good turn out. I agree, I was very dissapointed as well when it was decided to have it in Sept. :(

Ditto that. If you look back at the beginning of the threads when they were asking for suggestions on when & where to hold it, I suggested early June, before it gets so gawdawful hot in the Midwest. Also, kids (and teachers ;))are out of school.

And after a few key players were not going, they did not get involved with the planning and so it goes. :( :(

wait a minute...

Maybe we could generate a little more enthusiasm if we renamed it "Reading 8.41"

Ditto....
Oops! Sorry, guess I shouldn't have.....

I may have room if anyone wants to split a room, as I think I'll be coming alone, the wife is thinking she'll stay home (she didn't really want to go anyway.)

I've offered it to Jim, but haven't heard back from him yet...
