atf filter location

santa monica subaru told me the atf filter is inside the transmissiona nd i have to drop the pan to get at it. In addition they told me you dont ever need to replace the filter and that a full flush would clean it.

true?

I wanted to buy that atf filter kit from subaruparts for 12bucks and replace it myself if i could but.....

Yes that is true. They are thinking of the internal filter you're thinking of the external filter. Don't quote me on this but I think this was only for the 92/93 MY SVX. If you do have one it should be mounted below the battery, near the bottom of the radiator. I replaced mine with the summit racing filter kit to make it easier to install my ATF temp gauge.
