So here we go......
Looks like we have the dates of Reading IX as Friday, April 18 - Sunday, April 20, 2007
I have also been in contact with Sydney Simpson at the Morgantown HI to give her a heads up for reservations that weekend.
Since we ran out of accommodations at the 35-room level, I decided to up the quantity to 50 rooms. This year the room cutoff will be 60 days prior to the start of the meet.
This means that if you are even remotely thinking of attending, get on the list early to secure your room. Your CC will not be charged and you can cancel up to 24 hours before you are scheduled to arrive.
This will be easier than trying to add rooms to a smaller block at the last minute. You could even reserve more than one room and sell it to someone who finds out about this too late to get a room.
I am also in discussions about our dissatisfaction with the last-minute Saturday lunch changes and how to prevent this in the future. We will also discuss how we can make it better and run more efficiently than last year.

PS: I think we should take up a collection (say $10 per person) as a "Send this Needy, Far-away SVXer to Reading Fund." We could do this every year, staring with Reading IX. This way we could get one left coaster (No offense Earl), or a European, or a Middle Eastern, or even a Down Under SVXer to Reading each year. We have quite a few extra SVXes in this area that can be used as 'loaners'. (SUBYDOO is always available) Accomodations and food (drink?) shouldn't be a problem (scarcity of drink never seems to be a problem at Reading). The fund can be used to defray airfare expenses. We could start small at first, bringing just one person from the west coast, later, funds permitting, maybe we can open it up to a married couple, or an SVXer outside the US. Please, let's discuss this. It seems like a worthwhile idea. All of us can afford at least $10 per year (2 less 6-packs or 3 less packs of cigaretes per year).

Larry, you ARE a network officer. Hover your mouse over your handle (which is green, like mine) and it will show you as an "SVX World Network Officer"
You should also be able to see the Network Officer forum on the main page (but only if you are an officer) You've even posted on that forum about having your donation avatar removed!

In Maryland, where its MUCH cheaper than in West Virginia, it's usually $43-$44 at case prices before tax.
In PA it is around $73.+:eek:

Many of you at Reading Viii heard me singing a little ditty called "The SUBYDOO Song" (don't tell Hanna & Barbera).
Anyway, besides the regular verses, which are printed on paper, there are also 'lost verses' which keep rattling around my wasted mind.
An example that I sung at Reading is:
Suby Subydoo, the cop tagged you, for going way too fast;

Suby Subydoo, the judge saw you, and sent you right to jail;
Suby Subydoo, Rosie's mad, she had to pay your bail.

I received a call from Sydney at the Holiday Inn. The prices she quoted me for rooms for Reading IX are a little higher than this year.
They are offering them to us for $75.00/night plus 11% tax, for a total of $83.25 per night.

Tell whom? I never called the hotel, I merely looked at the beginning of the thread and saw a number of around $83 after tax and the like. With all the gas thats going to be used, missing work to go, and buying books, I can't really afford anything, be it $80 a night or $50 a night - still works out to be (for friday & Sat. nights) $100-160. All of which is out of my budget. I'm really not too worried about it, life goes on.

I was really trying to arrange my schedule so that I would be able to attend, but that same weekend is my grandmothers memorial service. It had to be planned that weekend because I have family all over the country that need to fly in.
If by a slim chance I can make it...it would only be for one day. I should definitely be able to make it for next year.
We'll see what happens.

Ya, the receptionist said there was only one opening, and only Saturday night. That might have been only for non-smoking though, I hadn't thought of that until now. I didn't ask about smoking.

I've owned my SVX for close to 7 years now, but I've never been too a Reading :(
I would go to this year's, but I got a major inspection coming up soon, so my superiors won't let me leave.
Reading X sounds like a better possibility :rolleyes:

Do we think reading will be worth me being poor for 2 wks... lol It's one of those things you REALLY want to do but I'm teatering on the edge of what's a good idea here... Good thing I live at home, I'll be bringin lunch at work... And my dad may have to spot me some gas money... lol
As of now I've got myself a nice hotel room and no one to share it with... I'm going to try and find people to bring just to at least cut the price of the room in half... I really wanna go!

Hi all,
As we plan to go to Reading, we are wondering if we should put normal tires on for the ride, I hear of pothole stories constantly...anyone know if the 18" Tribecca wheels with 35 series tires will survive the trip from New Haven CT to Reading?
I would try to use 287 and get around the city via the Tappan Zee bridge if I were you... I go that way every time I go to CT.

damn... wish i saw this sooner. even though reading is only 40 minutes away from my real home, im up at college now. little late to plan on driving home for this weekend. but the 14K mile SVX we have at home could have used another drive out of the garage :D . maybe ill see you guys next year!

Unfortunately my radiator decided to get a 4 inch crack in the top of it last night. I am going to try and get it replaced by Saturday but most likely I won't be making it up there. :(
