I have been wheel shopping for years now and once again I have narrowed it down.

We have 3 contestants.
This is a contest of beauty, intelligence, functionality, fit. BIFF, if you will.
You probably won't.

Anyway, here they are.

First up, Enkei. What can I say, the wheel is hideous. Some poeple like this style. I don't, but man it is light. 16lbs is killer. 8inches with that offset is cutting it close. I dunno how it will fit with my aging rear struts, but man, 16lbs, mmmm... I dunno, man man man man man.
--
OZ is up next. This I feel is the best looking wheel of the 3. I don't care for thin spokes, but it has 5 of them, which is my favorite number. The offset is better, but it's heavier and costs more than the Enkei. The cost is actually irrelevant since it's only $15, but then again $15 is $15.
Man I love gold.
--
SSR Gt-7. It's an 18 incher. It's not heavy for an 18 incher. Offset is fantastic. It has style a plenty. It's on sale. =D
Almost 20lbs though, considering what else is here, performace might be hurt in relation to what the others offer. I will be showing off a lot more than racing though, so what's more important, lookin good or that other thing.
It's the cheapest one! It's kinda ugly. But what does being ugly matter if other people think you are beautiful. I'm sure most you guys drool over this wheel. Yay gold.
--
Right now I am leaning toward the OZ. It blends the other two, seemingly, better than perfectly. Then again it doesn't, which is why I'm stuck.

Oh, I should mention, this is it. There will be no other wheels. I'm buying something in the next two weeks. Centerline, Rota, Kazera, and ASA have fallen in favor of these.
Unless you can find a similar sized better fitting lighter wheel that is gold and has 5 spokes, and is ~$250.

Personally, I like the split 6-spoke design, but the offset might be a bit tricky. Old suspension+tight offset+hard corners...not the greatest combo.

I'd go 17 over 18. The bigger sidewall gives more comfort. I'm not sure how the roads are up there, but I assume they're at least as bad as Ottawa's. I wouldn't go past 17's here for that reason, insurance if I hit a pothole, and comfort.

So my voke is the 5-spokers.

And I voted for that lazer option, for the hell of it.

The roads suck and there's more potholes than good drivers, which is why I'm steering toward a 17x8 instead of the 18x7.5 I was looking at a couple days ago.

And I voted for that lazer option, for the hell of it.

It's a 4-lug pattern. Great for a Civic, won't fit an SVX. Nice wheels though.

That's a great-looking wheel. Got any specs? The price can't be beat but low priced wheels usually come with the high price of shoddy performance.

Extrememly low priced anything is dubious, most of the time. Ah well, at least those wheels will only make it on to some other import car.

I kind of like the Enkei, but they'd need to be a different color. I'm still holding out for my Volk GT-U's in a pretty gold color. Sadly they cost just shy of $600.

i'm okay with any of these choices as long as it means getting new tires.

Those are nice but the OZ beats them out. Same weight with an extra half inch width, with the slightly better offset.

I do to but I'm not willing to give my first born for them. :D

Their looks are the only thing stopping me. I just find them to be very unattractive.

Do it. That's my favorite style for this car.

New tires is the reason I'm buying wheels. I need summer tires, and I'd like the convenience of not having to swap tires and rims every season. I am kind of obsessive so I like to get what will be the best of what I can get which is why I'm not just getting some guys second hand wheels for cheap. :)

check out some of the rotas on subydude.com if you havn't already. They are all replicas of higher priced yokohomas/enkeis/volks yet they are still structuraly sound. Im wanting to go with the g-forces in bronze when I get the money.

Did you make a decision on the wheels? what tires are you choosing?:D

NikFu S.

I chose the OZ with 245/40R17 Kumho Ecstas.

jman050
04-21-2007, 07:40 PM
good choice now where are the pics:D ....oh and what type of kumho ecsta, there are like 8-10 different choices. I went with the MX a couple weeks ago and couldnt be happier.

NikFu S.
04-21-2007, 07:50 PM
haven't ordered them yet.
I was looking at the MX originally but I'm trying to decide if it's worth paying extra for it over the SPT. I drive seldomly and my suspension is mushy so tread life and grip mean little to me right now. Weather performance is not an issue. I basically just need tires that don't suck.

If your not looking for the best possible grip i wouldnt worry about the MX . I only bought them because im going with Konis this summer and wanted great dry traction but i am sacrificing some treadlife and wet weather traction.

I ordered the wheels.

Had a little scare because my card was capped at $1500 per day, but a quick trip to the bank and they increased it. :)

Wheels will be arriving just in time for +50 degree weather.

How long does shipping take? Do you know how the wheels and tires weigh?

Shipping was fast. How fast? ASAFSDFAST.

Took 3 business days exactly, minuns the time confirming that I really wanted that tire size and getting my card denied because the cap was too low, which I raised the same day.

I'll weigh them alongside my blizzaks with stock rims which should be pretty soon if I get off my hind quarters. Just got home and I'm tireds.

According to my digital scale I weigh 140, and me holding the wheel weighs 184, so I guess these wheels are 44lbs.

Man are they pretty. I'm afraid to put them on because my car is dirty. :/

Prepare for some pics and info that may shock and amaze you.

First a group shot.

Now the comparison.

I'm not really worried about rubbing at this point.

THEY WEIGH THE SAME.

ZOMG.

I figure I traded a pretty light tire for a heavy duty steel radial-ridden thing.

What can you do I guess.

Took a pic of my exhaust (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/NikFu_S./43797.JPG) while I had it up. You can see the new resonator where it is not supposed to be, and where the old one was originally removed and where I wanted this one to be put. Oh well. I'll throw another one in the factory spot later.

We're not lookin' too bad, but we could use a bath. :D

The rear right tire is lightly rubbing on the outside on mild bumps at low speed.

Time for new struts. :/

I think you can actually see in those pictures it is a little lower than the left.

I put a little distance on the tires. They were very loud at first but calmed down after a couple miles. Handling and response is vastly improved, though it was damp today so I'm not sure about traction. The front wheels slipped a little a few times. Steering is a slight touch heavier. I was able to avoid scraping the rear right wheel until I made it back to my neighborhood. I can feel a slight lean in that direction though. Struts are now on my list of important things.
