View Full Version : So I went to an audio shop...

There's an audio place I'd never been to here called "Highway Hi-Fi." I figured that out of all the places in Ithaca to have the wiring harness from an Alpine CDA-9847, they'd be it. So I stop in and talk to the guy, and while he did have the harness, he instead offered to just splice the SVX harness into my existing Alpine one (which at that point had the Legacy harness spliced into it) since it'd be cheaper, and I didn't have the Legacy anymore. Did it for $9, I don't mind that. So then I mull around some more and decide I may as well get all my questions answered. So I ask what size speakers go into a '92 SVX... and the guy gets this old, tattered book out, rips out a page, and photocopies it for me. Sure enough, complete speaker specifications on what fits and what can be made to fit.

He also printed out his entire (!) database on the SVX, from audio to security to remote start and just handed it over. I have all the sheets here, and as soon as I can get a scanner I'll put them in my locker if anybody's interested.

Also got a DIN pocket from them. Considering the level of service and expertise I observed... I don't think my car'll be seeing anyone else in Ithaca when it comes to audio systems. :D

Very cool. Please scan the pages so we can see them. Thanks. If you email them to me, I can put them in the How-To Docs. :)

May as well put this thread in the product / service reviwes section, in case any other near ithica people want audio work done
(Itd be nice to see that section alive)

Yeah... I had decided not to put it there 'cause the service section looked like it was only for repair/parts shops for SVXs...:o

you will find all 'independent' car audio shops will always be better help that the chains that every country have.
but for someone to have a heap of info on the SVX... thats just good going

Thanks for the move. Sadly the only one in the household with a scanner is my little sister, and she refuses to let me use her stuff for silly car things.

I go into work on Monday, I guess I'll bite the bullet and just get them to scan it for me.

[I needed a wiring harness for an Alpine CDA-9847] ... [but this shop] offered to just splice the SVX harness into my existing Alpine one (which at that point had the Legacy harness spliced into it)
Tsk Tsk. And the next time you want to change radios in your SVX, the wires will keep getting a little shorter...

BTW, I was able to get a new replacement HU harness for free from one of the "big chains" just by driving around to the back and asking nicely. It was among a pile of them that they had leftover from installs.

Have e-mailed the scanned pages to ensteele. Thanks man. :D

Earl - Has this info been posted on the website somewhere? I looked in the "How To" but didn't find it there.

Thanks,

I looked for them and couldn't find them. I emailed Nomake Wan and asked for him to email them to me again and I will get them into the How-To Docs.

I actually emailed the scans to Earl multiple times... :o I'll just host them in my locker instead. They'll be up shortly.

EDIT: Lockers won't let me do it very well, so I'll link them from imageshack instead.

Is there anything in here that would help with the transfer of an autostart from one svx to another? My parts car has astrostart and I would really like to save some $ by not getting a new system for my SVX. Please help! Thank you!
