Well half way done... The passenger seat is in and fits great. It was relatively easy to do (if you have the tools) and in my opinion looks awesome. Here is a pic of the finished product and then I will do a short write up since I took notes and pics while I did the install.

You need to bend the front tabs down to mate with the svx front mounting points. I cut the rear feet off completely and bought a piece of steel and welded it flat with the bottom of the rail and drilled a hole to mount it to the two rear mounting holes. I did not use the side hole on the center hump.

And yes I know the car is filthy, but once the motor is back together and the driver seat is in. It will have a saturday dedicated to it getting cleaned and detailed.

I would guess much better side support and less weight.:)

Disregarding any possible gain in seating support, I personally think you went backwards. It does not look nearly as classy as the SVX seat. Just my opinion. :)

the early WRX seats are certainly much more comfortable and supportive than my '05 LGT seats!

i'd definitely recommend some Wet Okole seat covers if you want to change the back/blue color to match the rest of your interior (and also for waterproofing, and a little extra cushioning, too.)
they're a little pricey, but WELL worth it.

I think about doing the swap everytime I hop in the bug eye.

I know each have their pros and cons.... but I think I'll enjoy the wrex's more.

I'll stick with leather.. I tend to pee my pants while driving home drunk from the bars.

They are several pounds lighter. The exact difference I'm not sure, but just by moving them around the garage you can tell the difference (especially the driver seat). A rough guesstimate would be maybe a savings of 10lb on the passenger seat and maybe a little less than 20lb on the driver seat. Also, the side support is a lot better. When you stand back and look at the seat in the car finished, I really do not think it detracts from the car at all. Heck, 225.- for seats that have less than 200 miles on them, replacing worn, split 159,xxx mile seats all the while shaving 25-30lb off, is a good thing.

Are those weights with the rails? If so, the WRX seats are 46lb driver and 42lb passenger with the rails. So, it looks like the total savings were about 25-28 pounds, maybe a few more ounces cuz there were a few other very minor things trimmed out.

They make leather seat covers for the WRX. This would look better. This is a good first step since the WRX seats are good/light, and available due to the amount of seat mods that WRX owners do.

Yes, Leather, rails and drivers power.:)

I'm not big on power seats. The WRX non power seats operate mechanically very easily.

Alright they are now both done. The final weights that I got were as follows Stock SVX: driver 68lb, pass. 48lb.
Stock WRX: driver 46lb, pass. 42lb.

Total savings= (116-88) 28lb.

They are so much more comfortable and I feel a lot better in them (at 6'1'' the stock svx seats were not the best for me).

Well, now you can always say that you sit in the cheap and light seats. :)

Check that old pass seat for three pounds of change! :D

Is it just plain wrong if I know what my glove box door weighs?

I found about 3 dollars worth of coins along with a tube of tokens for some lazer park in PA underneath the seat. In the trunk I found about 60 rounds or assorted calibers, some really weird techno-vibe music CD's, and more coins.

Where 's the steering wheel from? WRX also I guess... Was it hard to fit? What about the airbag, is it functionnal? Plugs are the same?

Regarding the seats: I don't like 'em. They don't look right for the SVX at least for the moment. Maybe with leather on 'em my opinion would change... ;)

Steering wheel is from a 2003 WRX and I did not connect the airbag. As far as the seats go I think that the pictures do not do them justice at all. The flash really exaggerates the blue. In person they look great and they are far more conducive to my height now. I do not know why every one is so high on leather. Is it the status of being able to say, "I have leather."? It is easier to clean, but that is the only thing I like about leather.
We are talking about a Subaru too, folks. If I did this to say a early '90's ferrari then yes it would be wrong. Plus the leather seats in the SVX (even when still in good condition) are only decent at best.

Hmmm, besides WRX seats, does anyone else have opinion/options for seat replacement? My new 92 has very poor condition leather in them and when I sit in it, it feels hard as a rock. With a fubared back, I dont like this:(
Has anyone ever got the leather redone? It sounds lke a pricey discision, if I was closer to Mexico it would be a cheap option:cool:

dayle has leather kits on his website Motorsport warehouse. I hear good things about the quality...plus, he has custom colors /patterns available. Im pretty sure they go for like 900$ a full set

Now t have done a set of WRX seats I think that when the time comes and the seats in my red car die that I may try to get a set of leather forester XT seats and put those in. May be trickier than the wrx but we will see

We want to see them!!!

BTW, I have been wondering... was the WRX steering wheel a direct bolt on in the hub of the column?

Thanks

Ressurecting thread:

Are the rear seats a bolt-in change? I'll be picking up my new front seats tomorrow, so eventually I'll look for the rears to match. Rear arm-rest!!! WOO! My friends will love that!

sicksubie
12-28-2007, 08:12 PM
Yes you can just take the stock rear out and put the WRX rear in... HOWEVER the WRX seat is about 2inches higher. Some squishing around and a spacer under the rear deck makes it look pretty good.

Crazy_pilot
12-28-2007, 08:27 PM
Cool. It looks like the seat back is a couple inches left of the bottom? The blue parts don't line up.

Sounds good. I won't need to worry about the rear for a while, I might not even bother. There are some nice leather kits out there for WRX seats, so I might just get some grey leather for the fronts to match them with the stock rear.
