My son has a 1995 SVX that we're just about to donate to cahrity - anyone interested - the car runs but is not in gret condition. Location - North of Baltimore, Md

How much are you looking to get for it? Miles? What's wrong with it? Could it make the drive to NJ?

The car has 111K miles. Known problems are - it has an oil leak, the air does not work, one window mechanism not working, has some scratches and dents.

Has new tires, runs fine and should be okay making to to NJ (but no guarantees).

Open to any reasonable offer - currently slated to be donated to charity for a tax write off.

Pictures would be a big help. Can you elaborate on the scratches and dents? Do you know how much of a tax writeoff you would get from this vehicle?

IRS vehicle donation laws changed effective this year. If I'm not mistaken, you can no longer donate a car to charity and then deduct what YOU consider to be its 'fair market value'. Charities, which typically resell donated cars at auctions, on ebay, etc., must provide you with documentation of how much they sold your car for and then you're allowed to deduct that amount. The IRS got wise to too many people donating their junk or barely-running cars and then deducting inflated amounts.
