We made some changes to the hubs on the racer.

Can you see what's different??

The new ones are on the left...

So we can in turn add these...

So our 275's will fit:D :D

ps, Bill(svxride) I need to talk to you, if you don't have my cell, call Ben tonight, I'll be down there...

Dave,

Which SCCA class will you an Ben be competing in this year? Street Mod or are you still going to be in EP?

Would something like this work to help achieve our 55mm offset for rims?
If it does then that would open up a lot of options.

that is going the other direction.....that leads to shallower or just more out in this case....we need deeper

What exactly are you holding and where exactly did you get it. I know that it is a spacer but what kind exactly? I have been thinking about getting some spacers for a mustang and putting them on my SVX cuz they both have the same bolt pattern. I'm just not sure how to figure out what wheels will fit then. How are you going to fit 275's in the wheel well and what wheel are you mounting them on?

Dave,
This looks a bit like what we used to do with VW Beetles years back (yeah, I'm old:cool: ). Only we used backward lug nuts on the "inside" of the wheel to push out the wheel the width of the nut. No solid spacer needed ....;)

Chike,
We're in EP this year...

The spacer is a 1" spacer from Sardeson Racing, they do have different thicknesses available. To use one that thick, we had to find longer studs. The studs we found came from England.

The 275's are going onto our stock wheels, and in order to make them fit, we had to trim about 2" away from the fender. Eventually we hope to make up some wide fiberglass fenders.

That car will certainly corner much better with the wider stance!! Let us know how it works and if you think it puts too much additional stress on the wheel bearings.
Hope to see you and Ben at Reading!

Sounds good Dave. Definitely do what your budget will allow for suspesnion mods as the wider stance will effectively 'soften' your spring rates.

Explain what you mean by "softer spring rates"

Explain what you mean by "softer spring rates"Think "lever effect". The contact patch on the ground is further away from the strut and therefore has more leverage.

Correct. As the track is wider at each axle, forces acting on each wheel will be able to exert a greater force (through increased leverage) on the strut and springs. This is why when searching for aftermarket wheels for an SVX, it's typically best to go with one that has an offset of +48 or higher (OE is +55). Lower offsets can be used but with detrimental effects - increased brake dive, effectively softer suspension, etc.

oh, makes sense. Does this mean that I should go higher than I was planning (250lb front 225lb rear) if I were to get these and also how would that work with my current wheels (18x7.5 +48 offset with 225/40/18's)?

We finally ran with the 275's mounted. They really fill up the wheel well and make the car stick to the track so much better. Still a little bit of spin on take off and it could still be pushed hard and slide on tight turns.

I can't wait till the 12"ers get fitted ;) :D

RaceCar looking "mean" at States with 275/45-16 Hoosiers on stock SVX rims and 1" thick spacers. FYI -- this means that they're running ~30mm positive offset

Street mod is for ricer losers. REAL racers run prepared.:D

Question, how lowered is your car and how much fender rolling have you done?

benebob
08-08-2006, 10:13 AM
Up front its currently maybe 2.5 below stock (the control arms are level with the ground). Rears are a little high. No rolling. Just cutting. About 2 inches of the front fender is gone.

Check out hub changes posted by hocrest. We didn't do the cleanest of cuts just effective.:D

So I guess that means the Subie challenge is not happening for ya this year?
