 :( :( :( :(

My tranny is in the throes of death at this moment. I basically have 1st and 2nd, and some sort of combination of the two at times. 3rd and OD are now absent. Oh, imagine my joy

So.. I am in the market for a new or rebuilt tranny.

Eddy - will the Suby dealer rebuild the one I have or just exchange it for a factory rebuilt one? Are most dealers even capable of doing a rebuild? Would the warranty be any different?

In the (possibly slim) event that this car ( a '93, only 300 made) becomes collectable and valueable someday, I would like to keep the original tranny and have it rebuilt instead of exchanged, but if 'numbers matching' does not apply to the tranny, then I guess I don't care which route I go.

Any advice anyone? I won't sent it to Kentucky that's for sure

Hi Stevebsy

I just had my tranny rebuilt last month so here is what I found.... A NEW tranny from the dealer is $7900CAD (about $5000 USD) Too rich for my blood!! A REBUILT unit again from the dealer is $3200 CAD (about $2000 USD).... Still a bit high...

Then, a friend told me about this friend of his who owns a tranny shop near Montreal. So I went to see him, he had never seen an SVX before....! So he looked into his database, found that in internal components are the same as MPV, Pathfinder etc... , phoned a few supplyers to see parts availability and said "NO PROBLEM!" Total cost including replacement of one broken tranny mount.... $2150 CAD! ($1400 USD).

The car drives like new now :) In fact, it has never ran this well before, I'm in love again!!!

In conclusion, the cheapest option is to find a REPUTABLE tranny shop in your area and have the tranny rebuilt. Too bad you live 1436 km (892 miles) from here... Imagine how much MONEY you would save by having it done here!!!

Hope this helps

Steve,

I had mine rebuild by a local shop for $1600. They did a very good job. It was re-built in 1998 and is still running strong. It would also be a good time to get the TSB's done.

Check this link:http://members.tripod.com/quick_svx/TSBs92/42063452.html

Best wishes. I hope things work out.

They'd probably prefer not to rebuild it. But I suppose if you insisted they would. I think you'd end up paying way more for the rebuild than for a reman though. The warranty on the reman is 2/24, and when any work is done at a dealership the warranty is generally 12/12.
