Our SVX Network member TomsSVX is a college student and an excellent SVX mechanic! He lives in Beach Haven, NJ, charges a rate of $40/hr and offers flat rates on some jobs (e.g. 5 spd swaps). Great guy who's work is even better!

I've used him to replace my timing belt and my front engine seals, as well as replace my front transmission diff and install performance camshafts!

To get in touch with Tom send him a private message.

Tom definitely is very honest and knowledgeable with what he's doing.

My tranny swap is delayed again because Tom found remnants of bearing shavings at the bottom of the transmission pan large enough to have a concern. Instead of just throwing it in he advised me that we probably should hold off on it until I switched the transmissions with another one (it was still under warranty since it was less than a month old).

Luckily he called me before I came to bring any random stuff I had (my wheel bearings, hub tamer, Mychailo springs, all the struts and suspension goodies) to work on in case there was time left over.

Since we didn't get to do the transmission swap, we lowered my car and he installed one of the two wheel bearings i needed installed.

Ironically after installing my new rear suspension components the car is actually higher than it originally was due to a saggy suspension.

Great work Tom I have the new tranny so we will try again :)...

Stage 2v2 here we come (eventually haha)

Just took delivery of my new Tomstock Stage 3 v 2 SVX. Tom worked with me to identify components required, pointed out sources, and then did the install. Project included Group N motor mounts, adjustable fpr, Waldbro fuel pump, Delta cams, and WRX 5MT. Work was completed in a week for a very reasonable fee. Along the way, Tom identified a hairline crack in my radiator, then sourced and installed a new one, without missing a step. He even arranged to sell my discarded 4EAT, taking some of the sting out of the project. Work was very professionally done. Great service. If you want a 5MT and dont have either the personal or tool resources to take on the task, this is the way to go.

By the way, its a f**king beast. :D :D :D

I hope you like it as much as I do. Let me know if you wanna stop in and have me adjust your rear konis. It is a pretty simple task and you do not need to take it out of the car.

Ok now that I have most of my stuff settled and my final porject planned for this saturday, I can get back to normal. I figured I would throw some info out there for anyone interested.

Auto trans replacement $400 plus parts(1day)
-Replacement of stock transmission with one of the same gear ratio.
-Replacement of transmission pan gasket and internal filter.
-Refill of transmission and front differential with fluids of your choice

Auto Trans upgrade- $500 plus parts(1day)
-Replacement of auto trans with one of a different gear ratio (4.11/4.44)
-Rear differential swap(swapping the LSD carrier from SVX diff to matching gear ratio)
-Replacement of transmission pan gasket and internal filter.
-Refill of transmission and front differential with fluids of your choice

5/6 speed swap $2000-$2100*-$2300** plus parts(1 week)
-Replacement of auto for 5/6 speed manual transmission
-Custom built Cradle style Crossmember
-Shift linkage extension
-Pedal box retro-fit
-Wiring to use reverse lights and neutral safety switch on clutch pedal.
* this is for transmissions besides that of the WRX that need to have the rear differential gear ratio changed.
** this is for the Sti 6 speed transmission in which the owner would like to convert to the R180 rear differential and axles.

I also do most any maintenance of SVXes. This is $40 per hour. Things like timing belt/cam seals/oil pump seals/ water pump/thermostat replacement can all be consolodated into one job. I can also replace your wheels bearings that are screaming at you:)

If you would like to know more or contact me about your car, feel free to pm me anytime and I will respond as soon as possible

Oh man that happened to me too! I thought I was going to get eaten!

And yes the professionalism expressed by Tom is second to none. Everytime he took a break he took the time to call me and let me know of the progress.

He also let me know of things I should take care of in the future and pointed out that my transmission mount was broken, which was the reason for my thudding into reverse.

I really enjoy driving my car now that pretty much all the problems are taken care of with the exception of my lower rear strut seating, which I will replace. I honestly hate taking my car to people to get worked on but currently is one of like 2 other people that I trust touching my car.
