I'm here in Madison (actually, Deerfield now...)...

Starting to have some issues with my SVX...

However, my car knowledge is less than sparkling (I know.. I know.. Next question, "Why the hell are you driving a 13 year old car then?!"... My only response: "Love of the SVX.") and I'm looking for some advice on where I might be able to take her locally.

I've been warned away from Don Miller by both word of mouth and personal experience.

I had a contact I'd made through PhastSVX, but he's no longer working on cars and has moved out of state.

I'd also like to hook up with some fellow owners and possibly people with more automotive know-how than I, so that I might be able to learn how to do something other than drive her.

So what are the issues with your car?

Heyas EW... :)

Ugh... I was praying someone wouldn't ask me that...

My mechanical ignorance knows no bounds... It's not just SVX's that I'm inexperienced with... ...and I hate admitting that anywhere, but especially here...

I *believe* that I have a left rear bearing going...

...and though I don't know what a slipping tranny feels like, I would assume the occassional "getting kicked in the butt" feeling I have when going from (maybe?) 2nd - 3rd might be it...

I check my fluids regularly and I seem to have an oil leak somewhere (tranny fluid is still pink).

...and I believe I have a lose tranny heatshield (high-pitched metallic rattling).

Also, I don't know if it's normal with the car, a weakening motor, a bad seal or what.. But unless I close the driver's side window at a full stop or whilst going under 20 MPH, it doesn't seal completely.

Wulf,

Haven't heard from you in a while. Hope all is well.

Anyway, just had my tranny and left rear bearing serviced so I could probably tell you what it sounds like. Don't have an audio recording though. Not a sound I'd like to hear for a while...

You will hear a grinding noise, but it isn't super promient. I guess if you can find a smooth part of road, drive on it. You shouldn't hear much road noise but if you are, and it's coming from the rear, then your bearing(s) probably shot.

As for the tranny, mine was working well and then suddenly and completely gave out on me while headed for Milwaukee. Not sure how to describe that.

There are a few of us here in Chicago/Wisconsin area. I could perhaps make it out there one of these days. I am around. Feel free to call me.
