rear rotors and pads

sat morning im replacing the rear rotors and pads. this will be my first time looking at the brake system on my svx. is there any advanced knowlege i need before i do this. like what is the bolt size needed to release the rotor from the hub and chilton's says to remove the castle nut, is this really needed? thanks

done and done. just a few extra pieces left over. easiest brake job i've ever done. the bolts holding the calipers on loosened right up, the pads came right off, the rotors took a little sweet talking (5lbs slege) and the new gear went right on. saved almost $300 over dealership. the bolt size is 8mm and the chilton manual is incorrect, starting with there is no castle nut and go from there. profs to the how to contrabution on this topic.
