trans problems

I've been running my car at full line pressure for 40k now and when I recently went home for break, I drove it on the highway. when I was going about 45 and went WOT, the trans downshifted and the car continued to move, but the rpms went really high for a moment. I was afraid it was slippage, but it seems almost as if there was a problem with the TC, like the fins were to far apart and not enough power was getting to the input shaft.
