I've gone through my engine and Porsche 901 transmission (both low mileage) with new seals, etc. So today I put the adapter plate, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch disc on and mated them together. :) I've left off the intake manifold and throttle body as I'm thinking I will need to flip it around to fit in the engine bay in my Porsche 914. I'm not running power steering or ac so I'll just need to get my alternator in there somehow. My work is keeping me swamped but I'm going to slide the engine/tranny under my body shell and check out the clearance in the next couple of days. I'll post some more pic's with the eg33 in the 914 body. Any tips?

Check out this page of a '74 914: http://pages.infinit.net/fpa4/M/914.htm

From the factory, the car weighed 970kg or roughly 2100lbs!!!

wow the 33 with a stg3 ecutune. sounds like a plan. 914s in poor condition are easy to come by.

That 914 in the link has a 'chalon' kit that was made in the 80's. My 914 weighed in at 2200# before my engine swap, so I figure it should be around 2300# now. :D

WOW... That's 400 pounds lighter than my SVX ;) :D

I alway's liked the 914. This is going to be a great car. Maybe you can make it to the Reading SVX meet next year???

But guys i do not recall that the 914 has that front originally? or maybe this is American Spec? the original 914 has a much uglier front end than this one in the pic.
And is that a VW tag i see in the engine bay?

If fits!! :D I wheeled the engine/tranny under the car and lowered the chassis some to make sure there was clearance all around. I will definately flip the intake manifold and throttle body around. I placed the intake on to see how it would look and it will fit perfectly. Next week I'll get the rest of the engine assembled.

Cooooool !! what about the tranny? ;) and will you convert it to AWD mode or just RWD?

Hate to say it Danny, but Landshark has a point....

At the start of this thread, 914helo mentioned he's using a low mileage Porsche 901 transmission with an adaptor plate to mate it to the EG33. Btw, it's a rwd trans... (why convert a rwd light-weight porsche to awd?)

so i guess this will be the first low maintainence 914. does this get rid of the engine compartment relay board?

That is a very tight squeeze. I am think though, the newer 944 i think. they are very common and cheap to come by. They are font engine 4cyl. I wonder what kinda of mayhem they would cause with an eg33

It is a tight squeeze! Hope he has good motor mounts to keep the engine from hitting the frame.

An EG33 in a 944 wouldn't be too bad, but the weight would at least be 600lbs more than the 914...

I haven't figured out the wiring yet. That is going to be 'interesting'. My next project after getting the engine finished is to fabricate an engine mount. I will either bend my original bar or most likely make a new one.

This has to be one of my new top conversion favorites. I thought of it before but i never thought the eg33 would fit in the 914. Good luck.

This is simply badass. I've been busy so I hadn't noticed the thread.

I am curious where you plan on putting a radiator. ;)

What are you going to use for an ECU. The SVX or something else. The IRIS valve needs controling.

Harvey. ;)

As for the radiator, I'm going to put one in the front trunk. This is usually the spot where people add front mounted oil coolers. Other people that have done conversions to water-cooled engines have placed their radiators here and routed their water lines back with very few problems. The only catch is that you need to cut two small openings in the wheel wells for the hot air to exit. I have seen this on a V8 conversion that kept the engine temps down very nicely.
As for the ecu, my first attempt will be using a stock ecu. I'll need to pick up an OBDI to match my '92 engine and start playing with the wires. I think the stock Suby ecu would be better than trying to using a stand-alone system.

I had one autocrossing with me last month. And thats right about the weight of my old 'Teg and it only had like 100 Horses and it was pretty quick for how little of it there was

What about a cowl or a slightly raised hood center or just removing some of the weather stripping in the back of the area? I knew aa Impalla '94 pulled the strip and dropped under hood temps 20 degrees or so at the track.

In a 914 the front half and rear half of the front trunk are separated and sealed. This is because in between the front trunk and driver sits the fuel tank. If the hot radiator air is to exit it needs to be pretty close up front. I've seen the wheel well exits first-hand on a small block chevy so I figure it should work alright for me. My only concern was losing some structurally rigidity.

Kent-

Is there a website, or forum for people doing these swaps?

Mike

PS- Absolutely brilliant. I cant wait to see the finished product.

i remember this place: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/

they make kits for small block Chevy's into 928's, and all kinds of other stuff into all kinds of other Porsches.

There is one website (http://www.etischer.com/914xt6.html) that I know of where someone documented their conversion. Another guy detailed his on the 914 club website (http://www.914club.com/) . Both are very interesting. Now I just have to get some time off from work and keep going on mine. :D

Wow...the first subaru engine mounted in a manner that lowers the center of gravity over an L or V config. Nice!

The MR2s all have a front radiator BTW. Works quite well.

I liberated an EG33 from a SVX some time ago and was searching for an adequately light chassis to put it in...unfortunately the MR2s are all transverse mount...never thought of the 914. That's hot sauce!
