If your remote dies then you can turn your alarm off with this button or at least it worked for me

It should blink if it works. if Not it is like 50% of the SVX'x BROKEN. That is the remote door lock and alarm for the car

i have the button in my 94 but there is no light. doesn't even look like there is supposed to be a light. Also, are the words on all of the buttons like those(on both side of the steering wheel) supposed to light up? I gotta feeling i've got bubls burnt out. My security button turns the alarm on and off. When off the horn beeps 3 times real quick when loccking and unlucking. When on it beeps once when locking and twice when unlocking.

heh, i have it in my 95' and basically it turns on the "alarm system" in the car. unless you have the remote, you set your alarm off every damn time you open the door, or the trunk... its a neat feature, but i don't have the remote so it makes it almost a hassle to have.

Try looking the doors and then manually unlocking them and open the door or just open the trunk, should trigger the alarm system.

Im to lazy at the moment to go and get the owners manual for the exact discription but to the best of my recollection the security button turns the security system/alarm off and on manualy. When on the light is blinking the system is on, and should set the alarm and automaticaly lock the doors (provided the key fob isn't used) after a set number of seconds (iirc 45sec). Using the key to unlock the doors this overides the alarm so it doesn't sound when you open the door. All this is of course provided the system is working properly (based on a 92')

Here is the link to the instructions (http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/How-To/27326.pdf) in the How-To Docs. There are a couple of them there. :)

it doesn't even look like a light could be there, it is solid plastic like the rest of the button....

if i lock the door latter when i open it, well rather when i close the driver's door after opening it
a beeping sound starts
after a short delay the horn starts beeping if i don't turn the key fast enough.

pressing the security button doesn't seem to make any difference

i have a parts car from which i could switch the button if i could figure how to remove without breaking anything.

i would also like to change my cruise control button

anyone have pictures or instructions on changing these buttons.

thanks dwayn

found today when I looked closer that I do have the light panel, i guess the bulb is dead. I need to pull it and find out what kind of bulb to buy.
