I am hoping to be joining the 5spd club next summer, but have a few questions. First I do a lot of highway driving and enjoy the fact that the SVX cruises at 2600RPM or so at 80 MPH. This gives me a nice quiet commute to and from school. When you swap to a 4.11 5 spd what are the RPM's in 5th at 80MPH? What about putting in meatier gears before I even install the tranny? I ask that because I remember someone on here saying that Impreza gears were weaker than the stock 4EAT gears. Fact or fiction? I have other questions that I can't recall at this time but, I will post them later. Thanks for any and all input. It is appreciated

RPM@80mph w/4.11 (.738 5spd) - ~3150
RPM@80mph w/3.90 (.738 5spd) - ~3000
3000 @80mph will be the lowest you'll be able to go with a 5MT
With a 5MT you will break gears. With a 4EAT you will slip clutches. The crazy fast drag WRX's are using 4EATs.

This might sound stupid but, how do you clutch slip with a 4EAT

The 4EAT uses clutch packs to change gears. 90% of failed transmissions are as a result of worn out clutches (slipping).

I really want to drive a 5mt SVX before I undertake this endeavor.

I'd offer but that would be a long drive! :D
