That pic was from a car at reading, right? I recall it did not fit too well, mabey the door would not close. Something was just not right. I think one can be made to fit you just cannot use the factory holes in the cage. You will have to drill new ones to make the deck stick far enough out to clear the climate control but not so far that the door will not close.

but for that price, i think it would be way cooler to put in a 7" touchscreen and a mini-itx system under the seat... you could have all the features of that thing (minus satellite radio) AND be able to store all of your mp3s right there in the car and use the cool visualizations of windows media player...

plus you could still have the cover close.

i think that would be the best if you could somehow integrate into the dash a slot dvd-rw drive..... nice and lowkey..

although its a lot more work, it could probably be done for the 1500 that you are probably going to pay for the pioneer unit

just my pocket lint and some pebbles

...and how do you do the GPS navigation? i have a 40Gb portable to jack into the N1, so mp3 storage isn't a problem.

if it is alot more work for the same price, then it just doesn't make sense. i could have the N1 installed (knowing it will work) in about 2 hours. i don't really want to spend months putting some system together with various components, and hoping everything works as planned. besides, the N2 is coming out soon, so the N1 will most likely reduce drastically in price.

not to knock the DIY'ers who enjoy doing that sort of project, but i'd like to be up and running fairly quickly. :)

What about Kenwood's DDX-7015? Has anybody seen one of those?

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/product.jsp?productTypeId=37&sortBy=price&productId=2557 I was looking at that one last week and drooling. Not quite a car PC but damn close and it just slides into the double DIN space like it belongs there. I would LOVE to get one of them. Only thing I see that I don't like is that it has no hdd to load MP3s or software into. But for playing movies and music is looks killer! Heck, if it plays MP3s off DVDs you would not need a hdd. 4.5gb of mp3 goes a long, long way. If I had the money I would spring for it before I sprang for the automated single DIN jobbies. When the single DIN ones are up they block the climate controls and, while slick, just don't look slick enough to look stock. This new Kenwood does. ;) Plus there is less to break without having a motorized screen that slides out everytime you start or stop the car.
