I was watching "Two Guys Garage" and they featured a new turbo set-up that locates the turbine/compressor in the BACK of the car. They say that with the increased distance from the engine to the turbo, everthing runs cooler; turbine is cooler thus transfers less heat to the intake air, and you don't cook the oil either. They also claim there is no additional turbo-lag since it is a positive displacement(?) system since the whole thing is pressurized.

Actually if you search you will find at least 2 other threads about this style turbo.

There is gonna be some turbo lag. Not only is there going to be lag on the compressor side, but there will also be lag on the turbine side.

While this method might work with smaller turbos and larger engines, the efficiency losses make this seriously infeasable for smaller engines and any kind of decently sized turbo.
The colder exhaust due to the distance from the engine and the huge length of boost piping required will murder turbo efficiency and create a ton of lag over a properly configured turbocharger setup.

Then you could design this in such a way to offset the deficiencies. One thing that could be done is to reduce the piping diameter between the exhaust port of the cylinder heads and the turbo. You could start off the diameter a certain width than keep reducing it until you get to the turbo. Using a ball bearing turbo will help with quicker spool up. Also using header wrap will help keep in the heat energy. All these things could be used together to keep exhaust gas velocity up and reduce or eliminate turbo lag.
