Possible NJ SVX Meet

I am posting this to guage interest in an SVX Meet on Satuday, Oct.2, 2004; at the dragstrip in Englishtown, NJ. The "EasyStreet" streetable, WRX (9.6 sec., 145 mph for the 1/4 mi.) is dragracing that day, in an NHRA santioned event. This car is obviously backed ($) by Subaru to enhance their new performance image. So I would expect that some of the SOA people will be there. I think it would be beneficial to us to have more exposure to the corporate side of Subaru. We started that with the SIA plant tour in Indiana, and continued it at the last Reading meet. Personally, I think these overtures should continue.

Englishtown NJ is in the middle of NJ. It roughly lines up with Princeton, in the N-S direction, and is about halfway between the PA/NJ state line and the Atlantic Ocean.

I would like this to be a one day gathering with watching dragracing at the track and a dinner (supper)in the evening.

I would want at least 12-18 SVXes signed-up by the end of July before I start any serious planing for this meet.
So I'm calling all NJ, PA, NY, MD, Conn., & DE SVXers to sign-up and actually come to this meet.

First, I appologize for taken soooooo long to get this off the ground.

I have been in contact with Englishtown Raceway.
The admission price is $15 per ticket. This allows you to watch the time trials and the races.
Rosie and I are going up to the Raceway this Friday to review the facilitiesand make arrangements. I will post a report on Tuesday.

I envision a preliminary agenda as follows:

Sat. Oct 2, 2004

11:00 - 12:30PM.... Meet & greet in the parking lot.
12:30 - 4:30PM..... Enter track & watch time trials
4:30 - 5:30PM.... Leave track &go to resturant
5:30- 7:30PM.... Eat dinner & schmooze.
7:30 - 8:00 .... Goodbyes

These times are flexble. If anyone has any other ideas please post them.

Alas, for a while I thought I'd be able to sneak in under the tent flap on this one, but it seems I've been recruited to attend the OC 2 wedding of one of my oldest friends' baby boy. The baby boy is 38 years old, & the wedding's in Brooklyn. I'm the flower girl. The bride is actor Willem Defoe's personal assistant, so I'll probably get to rub elbows with lots 'o showbiz liberals. Sorry, Larry - I'll say hello to cousin Vinny if he drops by (or drops in) the punch bowl.

It's my uncle Vincent (actually Vincenzo) in Brooklyn. His son's (my cousins) are Vito, Bruno, & Guido. They form the core of 'Da Brooklyn SVX Club'(only black SVXes). You should fit right in, if you come up to Brooklyn in your black SVX. If you really want to impress them, tell them that your last name is 'Mumerti' and that your people come from Calabria.

Yesterday, Roie & I went to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.
We were both very disappointed in the facilies (or lack of them) at the race track.
They have a new 3-story section at the finish line called the 'Beer Garden.' The second floor is like an open deck with picknick tables. This area is covered by an awning. This is the place to be to watch the races. This area sits a couple of hundred spectators. It is only serviced by a single (one hole) bathroom. I tried to reserve 2 of these picknic tables for us at the front office. Unfortunately, the people in charge would not budge from thier rule of 'first come first served'.

I have decided to cancel this meet for the above reasons.
I am sorry, but I think SVXers deserve certain minimum standards just like the SVX is a sports-LUXURY car.

last and first time i held a Long Beach Island meet, not only was there a very small turnout, but we did go to applebees. I have mentioned this before, but i am more than willing to do it again. My ebony may not be streeted by then but we can make it happen.
