On our sister site, a lady was trying to sell her late partners SVX. I took a drive up to have a look at it so that she could get a better price that she has been offered to date.

I'm taking no cut from any deal - would like to think that someone would do the same for my wife if I passed away.

Car is located near Junc 13 on M5 (Stroud)

Car has been left in the garage for 12 months - owner was too ill to drive it.

Its a none runner - I spoke to the garage that towed it back to the vendor's house - they reckon the big end has gone.

Details:

Met Black
93 SVX - heated mirrors but no passenger airbag.
UK car - no modifications to original spec.
122k miles.
SVX private plate.
Service history up to 117k miles - since then car has remained in the garage.

Condition:

Interior:

Carpets - A1
Original SVX Mats A2
Suede trim A1
Leather trim for back seat A1
Leather trim on front seats A2
Dash - complete - nothing missing on interior at all
Headlining clean
Dash is covered in obvious fake wood rather than earlier marbled effect.
Original Panasonic stereo fitted - complete with CD boot mounted changer - all lit up and cd changer ejected magazine.
Generally very good - better than my car unfortunately!!

Electrics:

I hooked up a spare battery (without engine turning over), managed to get all 4 windows to open, roof to open/slide, seats to heat up. Drivers electric seat fully operational. All dash + overhead console lit up. Aircon switches lit + operated.
Front and rear wipers worked,.
Couldnt test cruise and power sterring obviously!

Glass:

A1 all round

Body:

Good solid colour.
Roof + boot lid scratch free.
Drivers side in A2 - no bad dints or scratches - hard to tell if A1 below the dust!
Passenger side - needs new front wing and door skin - B post back is A2+. The wing was caught when reversing out of his garage on the wheel arch hence damage - nothing structural from what I can tell.

Front bumper slightly out of line because of damage on near side outlined above but otherwise in A2 condition - should mount on a different car without a problem.

Rear bumper in A2 except for scuff on near side - not deep though.

Wheels:
original items with centre caps. Dunlop Sp tyres fitted with loads of trad left. Wheels in A2 condition - some surface scratches though fundamentally ok.

Mechanical:

Impossible to tell since couldnt get engine to turn over due to buggered battery - but - engine clean and complete! As stated already, engine will big end has gone. No recports of broken gearbox, though unable to check this. Seeminly all mechanical items complete.

So anybody interested?

Please replay openly to this post. Vendor would like to see car running again but fully realises it will probably be sold as a spares car. Surely its work more than th £350 she has been offered to date. I would buy it now but have absolutely nowhere to store it.
Perhaps 3 individuals might be interested in buying bodywork, interior, mechanicals and putting together a joint bid.

Anyway let me know. Interest in complete car considered first followed by interest in key components. I have 'bagged' a few minor cosmetic compents which will be replaced by fullly functioning items from my car ( though not as A1) headlight, sun roof headlining and side light lens. Obviously I will not take these items if it stops the vendor from getting a good offer for the complete car.

Send open replies to me - the vendor can then see them on the wbsite and guage what she wants to do.

Any specific requests for info let me know.

yours

Sounds interesting, but too far from me...
Lets buy it together as a club spare car :-)))

Peter's idea sounds good to me, but where would you store it? Who would have the space?

It would be a nice challenge to someone to re-do the engine, and have it running again. In the States they are running cars with 250K miles and up, with no engine work, so they are worth fixing.

Only problem with this approach, you would have no idea how good the gearbox was, and fixing that[if it's gone!] could add another 2 thou to the overall cost.

I saw this on Yahoo! only a day or two ago, and Phil and Pottsy's replies. I do hope the lady gets a reasonable price for the car.

I think engine work is less expensive to tranny. But it depends on what is wrong. Assuming short block parts for 600USD (if crank is OK). There shoulde be bad also any of 4 camshafts... Generaly the most expensive things I saw are camshaft and crank...

Has there been a resolution or a sale with this car?

Today, I got hit hard from behind, and will need a new rear wing and bumper and rh light assembly. If the car is breaking, I might be interested in it for bits.

Please let me know what is the current situation.

Thanks Peter.

I was a bit crestfallen to see my baby damaged, and I still don't know what it will cost to repair, or how long it will take. It needs a rear quarter panel, and to replace it requires taking off a lot of bonded glass. Really difficult job.

My sorrow at getting the car damaged is totally eclipsed by gratitude that my other Baby was not hurt. I had my daughter Helen with me at the time. :D I am sure that the SVX saved both of us from possible whiplash. We both would have taken quite a thump in a lighter, lesser car.

Hopefully get my motor sorted and painted soon.

Joe

Sorry to hear about your bump, but pleased that you and your daughter are ok. Car panels can be replaced, human ones are a bit more difficult to fix !!

Thanks Phil.

You are quite right. My wife thinks that where cars are concerned, I have a screw loose. For years, no doctor or mechanic has been able to fix this screw.:D

Cars are easier for sure:)

Say Hi! to Belha for me, don't think I can make it to the meeting this year.

Whow, you were lucky that none was hurt and you are both OK!
What was the make of car you was hit by?

Ooops...

Sorry Phil,

Apologies mate. I looked quickly at the message, but not close enough at the moniker.:D

[I replied to this earlier, but it did not post up]

Was not expecting a post from you, you are usually in Rochester or Buffalo or Sweden or somewhere.

Do please say to Angie I was asking for her, hope you both are well.

Thanks Tony

I tried them last week. The car is crushed. Only thing left is the ECU, I think.

There must be server problems or something wrong with this forum.

Peter, I replied to yours also, but don't see the post there now.

The other car was a VW Passat, nearly as heavy as the SVX.

The tips of the impact absorbing bumpers on both cars deflected the cars apart, and saved further damage to vehicles or occupants.

I have just purchased this car from the nice lady who owns it.

Unfortunately for anyone hoping for parts, I am planning to rebuild the engine, and put the car back on the road when rectified.

Sorry to disappoint anyone who needs bits. If when I check it out the car is not viable to fix [anything's possible?] I will reconsider. Then perhaps I might strip for parts or retain the car as a "club donor" car.

But if it can be fixed, it'll be back on the road like all good SVXs should be!:D

Congratulations Joe.

Does this mean that you are twice as much of a shortsighted and altrusitic fool than the rest of us?

Are you also planning to repair your original car?

Phil.

Whow, another engine work:-).
Let me know if you find what went wrong. I did quite through search about engine parts:-).
Seems to me the car looks very very nice what convinced you to bring it back to life. Am I wrong?

Don't know yet Peter.

From Pottsy's description, it sounds in good condition. I have not seen pictures of it yet, bought it sight unseen.

Can buy second hand engines from the States for c $1500, not including shipping. I may go this route and put a s/h engine in it, particularly if the crankshaft and associated parts and repairs are as expensive as I expect them to be.

Looking forward to fetching the car home.

Joe, it is the most expensive way to change short block or use swap engine. As for my engine, I gave it up. I can change all bearings including all seals and let crank grind for almost 1000USD including work(set of pistons glands costs another 250usd but I do not need them). Doing that engine can run another 200k kms with no problem (I will asure you I will not keep it for so long:-)). This is only lower/short engine. I do not know what can be wrong with upper part(cam shafts, valves...). I never read about such a problem at SVX. Please keep me informed after you pull out engine and find out what went bad.
Thanx Peter

That makes a little more sense.

You must have missed the post at the top of this page. The car is now sold. I have bought it and I am putting it back on the road.

I may be selling my own JDM car, depending. If you are interested in this, let me know. It is Black over Claret.

You a Kawasaki fan, by any chance??:D

You need to type a bit slower, we're all old fogies here and don't understand text style English.

Hi again Brett, and welcome to the Network.

Thanks for the good wishes. Pottsy has not bought the car, I have [Joe]

There is a meet scheduled for Billings [Northants] on 24/25 July.

We are currently waiting confirmation we have a stand. It is the Japanese Auto Extravaganza event.

Assuming we are confirmed with a stand, you are welcome to come along, there's sure to be 10 or more members and owners there.

Looking forward to seeing you sometime soon.

Hi Pottsy

Joe says you are going to look at his new car for him (see thread about coil pack lending). He has said that you could get a coil pack off for me to see if I have a bad one - it is the one at the front with the longest cable. Guess either side will do.

If you could do this, let me know and I'll send my address. I'll re-imburse post and packing.

Thanks a lot

Tony
