View Full Version : Keyless entry in my SVX?

I have been thinking about installing a keyless entry system into my SVX. I'm not really looking for something with lots of additional gizmos and features (i.e. power window control, starter disabling, etc). I just want to be able to unlock the doors, and maybe the trunk, from 20 feet away. Ya know?

Here's what I found with a quick search:
Keyless Entry (http://www.slickcar.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=2202)

Opinions? Has anyone here done this before? Do you have any installation tips?

Thanks!

not that brand.

I put in an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry system on the low end - a Rattler 300. It can be sourced at Circuit City or lots of places online (for much less I'm sure).

I'm not trying to endorse Rattler, I don't work for them, don't own stock, etc. They are made by DEI who has more than 50% of the market so it was a comfort factor more than anything else for me.

For the Rattler I can give full wiring diagrams. Let me know.

Others on here have used other brands.

I've had a Nola installed for 3 years with no problems.

The Rattler 310D looks pretty nice. They are a bit pricey compared to the competition, though. I seem to be seeing Black Widow security everywhere I go. Anyone using this brand?

Lee, I just might need those wiring diagrams. I'll let you know.

Oh, I just noticed that the Rattler 310D is a keyless entry and alarm system. I'm not really looking for an alarm... Just keyless entry. FYI.

I'm looking for keyless entry, alarm, trunk popper, and remote start.... thing is, it has to have a QUALITY key fob. Every aftermarket alarm system I've looked at either has a pretty cheap, flimsy generic looking remote with crappy buttons (not on par the the SVX's quality/ fit n' finish) OR, it's some GIGANTIC non-pocket-friendly pager looking thing with a stupid looking car LCD display (way too big, and way too fast and furious for my tastes).

If anyone see's any machined aluminum remotes for an alarm system, let me know. Or at the very least, something that looks like it'd belong to a lexus/mercedes/bmw... something classy, simple, and of good construction.

keyless entry should be cheap.

however if you were looking for an alarm, viper maybe a good one. i've used them before they seem pretty decent. a buddy of mine who did a few years for stealing cars and chopping them up recommends viper. he uses them for his cars along with a few loud chirpers in the car and a kill switch.

That's something I'm sort of looking for as well... I'll let you know if I find a nice one.

So, here are two similar systems that I am looking at. The Rattler systems were nice, but don't have all the features that I would like. The Viper systems are just too damn expensive for me.

Black Widow (http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=blabwx1&store=&catid=) - Normal keyless entry and alarm.

Black Widow (http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=blabwz1&store=&catid=) - Keyless entry, alarm, and remote start.

I'm sort of questioning such an inexpensive route for remote starting (read: reliability). So, I may just spring for the entry/alarm.

Of course, my original plan was for only keyless entry. Looks like somehow those plans went down the drain.

Does anyone have any notable experiences with remote start systems?

Seventy bucks for entry/alarm/start? Damn, that sounds too good to be true. As a Pizza Driver I spend many late nights dreaming of remote start. At that price I could actually afford it. Let me know how it all turns out.

well remote trunk release will be very hard to do

the svx trunk is cable operated... no electronics to open the trunk

i am going to undertake the challenge of making my trunk remote release when i put in the remote starter that amanda gave me..

if you just want to lock and unlock the doors, why not just get a stock svx security system

you plug it in and you push the button to lock and unlock

This is why I've decided against a trunk release option. Most of the kits that are for sale don't even offer trunk release.

Stock SVX security = OEM = pricey :D

I can get aftermarket keyless entry for around $30 - $40.

I think I've decided on Black Widow. I've spoken to a few friends that have used it, and they found it to be reliable in its functionality. I'm still going to look around a bit, but I'll keep everyone posted on how it works out.
