Sorry, but generally before I commit to something (and I assume you want people that post to this list to be very committed if you are using it to arrange lodging rates) I like to know what exactly it is I'm commting to. Might attract some more attendees if this was more advertised and had the appearance of organization.

I understand you wanting an itinerary planned. Problem with this is that we don't have anyone giving us any input who is actually familiar with the Reno area. I'm going to go to AAA this weekend and see if I can get some info for some short scenic drives.
Mitch has everything planned with the museum. He needs to tell us what all he has committed us to. ;)

ROOMS!!!!

I currently have 11 standard rooms blocked at the Sands Regency Hotel/Casino. The rate for Fri and Sat nights (6/18-19) is $69 + tax. I need to know from everyone if they wish to have one of these rooms. Payment will need to be made to the hotel 3 weeks prior to 6/18. If I have not heard from you for certain by the end of April, I will be trying to contact everyone on the sign up list via PM or email. If you'd like to check out the hotel go to www.sandsregency.com.

And seriously, if anyone has any other ideas, please let me know. Right now we have 10 individuals (plus guests) signed up on the list. If you all want a Sands room, that only leaves room for one more, unless I need to get more rooms. PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

I have been to Reno several times as I ski in Tahoe all the time. I could put together a little scenic drive of the Tahoe area. We could just drive along the lake or we could stop by one of the ski resorts. Squaw (on the north shore) and Heavenly (on the south shore) have gondolas that run all year around that will take you to the top of the mountain (for a fee of course). Squaw is interesting as it was the site of the 1960 winter olympics. The view from the top of Heavenly is just stunning as you can see the Lake Tahoe (one of the deepest and clearest lakes in the world). You can't see the lake from High Camp at Squaw.

Did you know the Ponderosa (where the filmed Bonanza) is in Tahoe? They have tours and stuff going on there. I'm a little to young to have seen the show, but I'm sure some folks here remember it. :)

I seem to remember that pdsides knows somebody at the Auto Museum and offered to help arrange a tour. If we want to book a tour, we should contact him.

If you guys want me to put together a drive, let me know.

I really wasn't looking for an exact play-by-play itinerary, just mostly wanted to someone to step up and say "Yes, there will be an organized Reno meet happening on THIS date in THIS place." And if the Auto Museum is something that is going to happen (ie, we have reservations there), then why not post that information.

I realize we have a planning thread, but most of that talk was a long time ago and it is just that: a planning thread. If something is finalized, it should be announced for all to see, and hopefully, sign up for. :)

edit: Actually in looking again, you did post the date and place... well you said Reno, and it isn't that huge a city that you probably need to get more specific. I guess I was just thinking that if there was a little more "promotional stuff" in the first post it might attract more attendees. Like listing that the group will get a special tour of the Auto Museum on such and such day, etc.

yo whattup benebob :D. i'll be there for the dragon xt meet along with the svx's and the wrx's. i'll probably be hitting the dragon in may most saturdays and when i go in june i won't drive. i want to ride other's cars to see the difference in handling between the two. too many people on the road in the first week of june..lucky for me it's only 2.5 hours away from atlanta...perfect day trip :D.

wish there was a way to have a svx out there to drive other than the gruesome 36 hour drive from atlanta to reno and back :(. maybe rent one from earl :D

Wow, what a response. If all goes well, maybe if Lwin let's me know about his plans to come to Idaho, I know Lwin, Heavy, and I will all try to convoy down to SLC, to meet with those in Utah and them travel to Reno from there. As far as Lwin is concerned, hopefull he will try to come get this SVX in Idaho. Idealy, for him to hit Reno, if all goes as planned, he can purchase it and road trip to Reno and then home from there.

I would like to see some better clarification on who will be going to Reno from the Washington, Oregon, Idaho area. I'm with Heavy on the clustered road trip to reno.

As you all know, I'm in. And I would like to know the prices on the rooms as well as how much reserved parking will cost;)

I'm coming from North Cali, so I'm up for meeting someone in Sacramento or Roseville for the drive up to Reno. Sort of counterproductive, since I live east of Roseville, and Reno is east of Roseville... But having multiple SVXen on the freeway would kick ass.

I was thinking that we could take a nice scenic drive down to the South Shore. Here's the proposed drive. See the attached map of Lake Tahoe for visuals. Start in the upper right corner.

We'll take 431 through Mt. Rose from Reno. Stopping at the Mt. Rose scenic overlook for pics. Take 28 down the east side of the lake. We can regroup in the Ponderosa Ranch parking lot as we will probably get seperated at the 431 to 28 turn (only a stop sign and the turn is onto a fairly busy road). Then we head down hwy 50 to the California/Nevada state line. We can park behind Harrah's casino. From there, people can go do whatever interests them. They can then either visit the casinos, take a walk downtown and visit the store for some goodies or take the Heavenly tram up to the top of the mountain for some spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. I'm going up to the top of Heavenly for some views (maybe we will be able to get a shot of the cars in the parking lot).

I figure from there, some people will want to head back, some people will want to stay in South Shore a little longer and others will want to take the full tour of the lake. Emerald Bay is really nice, but parking (especially on a summer weekend) is tight. We can break into smaller groups and do what we like. We can all meet up in Reno later.

thanks for the follow up info on the meeting...so your planning one in reno....ok no prob i'd love to be there...as a newbie...(go easy on me) -lol- i would be interested in going....what else happens at these meets? (dinner?, auto cross? ect) sorry for the novice questions but I've never been to one... so i don't know what to expect or plan for. I assume we can get a discounted hotel room if WE reserve blocks and such... anywho... just wanted some basic info on what else happens once a meet is set and planned... and thanks for not getting... upset with my ego coment (having a bad day...week..life i'm not sure yet -lol-)

hey any chance we can move the meet up by a week? (weekend of june 10-13th) if no one has any objections.... its just we have NASCAR in sonoma the following weekend and that might strap some folks (like myself) for the el-casho funds -lol- and days off and such.... just asking for input....thats all not saying that i wouldn't come....

and as far as this trip goes with planning....the heavenly site does offer a gondola ride to the top of the moutian during summer that costs around $12-15 per person ..i looked on the website i didn't see any ad for it ( i might have just missed it) but anywho its a nice 30 min. ride depending how much time you spend at the top... was a very nice view.... and you can see 100% of the lake and the cars on the road (just think....SVX's EVERYWHERE!) -lol-

some hotels on the reno side might have packages at some of the places that have casino's and such... we might be able to get a group/hotel/chips for gambling package....just an idea...there is alot to do for us..just a matter of setting a time table and setting enough free time aside for your "wander'ers"

Okay guys, we're coming down to the wire here. I need your cooperation. I hope you are all checking this thread.

I have been speaking with the hotel folks and I have some info and some requests:

1. the City of Reno has an open-container law. As long as we are in the back parking lot and behave ourselves, they will most likely look the other way and leave us alone. That means we can't get rowdy in the parking lot!

2. Dinner Saturday night. I have reserved a private room at the hotel. I absolutely have to have input on this and a headcount by May 10th, or the dinner will not happen. I am posting the 2 menus we can choose from. The first is a per-plate menu. We all need to agree on one item, I would suggest selecting from the meat items, not the chicken or seafood. If there is anyone with special dietary needs, that can be accomodated. The second is a buffet choice. Problem with the buffet is that we have to pay for 50 people even if 50 people do not attend. That makes it a bit pricey (seeing's how we probably have less than 30 confirmed right now).

3. I have sent a PM to everyone on the attendee list posted above. If you have responded, thank you. If you have not, you need to. If I have not received a PM back from you by this weekend, I will try again by the email address you have set up in your profile. Some of you I may try to catch by Yahoo or AIM Messenger.

I think that's all I have to pass along for now. I hope everyone is getting excited about this. It's seven weeks from this Friday!! (but who's counting? :D)

Benihana's is a cook-at your-table chinese restaurant (pricey), or maybe the Brew Brothers Brewery at the El Dorado might make a good place. Good beer and food. Agreed. The Peppermill has a great buffet, but I don't think we could fit everyone in there unless we go when they first open. On Saturday nights, there's a good hour or so wait by 6:00 (and that's for a table for 4).

Atlantis has the best Sunday brunch in town.

I am a bit confused about the planning of events of this meet.

Friday night we all get in to Reno....are we meeting anywhere for a general get together?

Saturday we get together for a trip around Tahoe and dinner

Then Sunday we all leave.

What about the museum? When is that planned?
Has anyone clocked the time from the hotel around the route and back? Have they done it on a Saturday, during a busy time?
Do we have a place to meet? Sounds like only a part of the group has reservations at the Sands and soem at the peppermill.
Are you allowing time for everyone to check out the cars?

Is anything planned on Sunday besides recovering from hangovers?

Friday night is going to be a gathering as persons arrive. Happening in the parking lot at the Sands. This will be time to meet people and check out cars.

The museum thing fell through I think. Mitch couldn't get answers back from them.

Saturday is the drive around the lake. Nordique14 has got that all mapped out. Don't know if he's timed it or not.

There will not be an organized dinner on Sat night because I couldn't get anyone to commit, and I'm not comfortable with paying for X number of plates myself and then not getting reimbursed. We'll just have to try to find a place that can accomodate us on the spur of the moment.

Since this is the first time we've done this, and a select few of us have been trying to do the planning (without ever having been to Reno), this is pretty loose. We can all decide what we'd like to do as a group.

All I have firmly arranged is the meeting place. Any other questions/suggestions, please let me know. :D

oh by the way a new website seems to have thier stuff together as to how to make meets happen without any issues... the creators name is Troy and its North West SVX site (NWSVX.com) great site if you havn't checked it out already they just wrapped up a spring meet recently and the details are there for everyone to read ..membors or not ..great site.. by a really nice guy... so any of you that plan meets might want to email him and ask some basic questions as to what works and doesn't..just fyi...thought you all might enjoy the reading..
to confirm again meeting friday evening at the sand's parking lot and a drive the next day? any raffle's or anything liek that... give away cheap items or to earn funds to keep this website up and running? maybe instead of doing a dinner someplace we can do a lunch gather somepalce... lots of cheap palces all over... just some ideas...(maybe its too late for this time but next time?)

Both MacGyver and Seasvx from the NW who would be great resources to draw upon especially in this late hour. Also the members who plan Redding would be great resources. These people would be great to talk to about planning a large meet anywhere.

Has anyone checked into the chain resturants like Applebees, Chili's or Outback? I've planned several large parties over the years and no deposit was required at booking.

If you want Motorsports/Langston Subaru/Small Car/Subaru Parts to donate items, it might be preferable to contact them directly and surprise everyone.

BTW, the the tour down to South Tahoe will be on roads where there is no passing. It would normally take about 1-1/2 - 2 hours if there was no stopping (and no construction). Time also depends on how many slow-pokes hold you up. Since we'll be stopping for pics along the way, figure 3 hours. On the way back we'll go up 395 from Carson City, so it will be much faster.

I don't particularly want to post my call number here, but I would be willing to distribute it to those attending the meet. I would be willing to collect cell number's from those who feel comfortable giving them out and then PMing a list to everyone a few days before the meet. Michelle, let me know if this is okay with you.

The Silver Legacy and El Dorado would be the nicest, and Circus Circus is ok. Just for a quick quote for the Hilton, they are at about $159 that weekend.

For anyone meeting up in the Auburn/Roseville area, we should do one big caravan from Sacramento and head up 50.

If we're doing a drive around on Saturday, we should just do a complete tour around the Lake. It's an awesome drive (Lot's of curves and hills!). We come up 431 from Reno, continue on to 89, take it south along the Lake until we hit South Shore, head through South Shore on 50, and then we can either take 20 back to 431, or continue on 50 into Carson and take a nice cruise into Reno from the South. Sounds confusing, but it's nice. :D

Ok, how about this?

Friday night: meet in the parking lot (towards the back, where there should be lots of room) at the Sands Regency sometime in the neighborhood of 4:00 - 5:00. I will do my very very best to be one of the first ones there (anyone know how long it takes to get from Salt Lake to Reno?). Once everyone's gathered we can talk cars, get food, whatever.

Sat morning: more meeting in the parking lot at Sands to talk cars. Then head out on Lake Tahoe drive approximately 9:30. Matt is going to have maps and stuff for us. This sounds like it's going to be pretty much an all-day trip.

Sat night: right now there is no officially planned dinner for everyone, but I still think it would be nice for all of us to try to go somewhere together. There is a comedy club at the Sands that's supposed to be really good. I think that would be a fun thing to do after dinner.

Sun morning: we could get together for breakfast if that's something everyone would like to do. Maybe we could visit the museum that day as well, depending on everyone's schedule for heading home.

As always, any suggestions you guys would like to make are welcome.

Saturday (5/29) I saw an absolutely gorgeous SVX parked right by one of the entrances to a parking garage at Oakridge mall in San Jose. Black with very nice chrome 5 spoke rims, at least 17's, maybe larger. Looked very nice, at least from the quick glimpse I got in passing by from my in-laws' SUV. I would have put one the nwsvx flyers on the car if I had had one on me (CA folks are always welcome to join :) ).

Also a silver SVX going the opposite way on highway something-or-another out by Santa Cruz yesterday.

Sounds like Wes' car (blk97lsi). He's moving to San Jose from Sacramento, so it might be him. He takes really good care of it. He even treats the leather every month. The car is like new. Half the trunk is taken up with a kick ass stereo. He's coming to Reno.

I'm not sure what I should do. Getting a hotel room is completely out of the question at this point. I've a friend who has a summer cabin in Tahoe, but that's not exactly close to Reno.

Expedia has rooms at LaQuinta for $80 per night. Good deal! If you have never stayed there before, it's like a Marriot Courtyard. The LaQuinta website lists a room, but for more than Expedia is charging. So book soon!
