It didn't work out last time, but let's give it another try.....

Anyone up for one last drive in the snow before spring completely hits the mountains? We had a blast last time, and there's talk of a new area that might be even better. But snow is melting fast!

My vote would be for next Saturday 3/20. And I guess Alli has a plan for a route and location.....

I should have my SVX by then!

Apparently Earl has seen it though, so the laughing sound you hear is probably him at my optimism that the thing will make it to the mountains and back.....:(

This sat sounds good to me! I think 410 would be fun, but if HWY 2 is easier, that's fun too--anywhere with snow. :)

Tofu, you could always meet up without your SVX and ride with one of us up the pass. I'm not sure your gonna get many more chances to drive in the snow. I wouldn't mind a copilot, but you'd have to put up with my music. :p

where do you plan on starting on 410? cause that would be great if we started at the beginning here in puyallup. It sounds like fun to me. I should be able to go.

I was thinking we could meet in Enumclaw, then head toward Crystal Mt.

Sounding good so far! I'm trusting that there will be lots of snow in the places we need it on that route? :D

And March 20th is NEXT Saturday, although if you are reading this post next week it would then be this Saturday.   :D

Can we do it Sunday! Please, please please please! I'm working Saturday until 3pm. I don't think I can take that one off... SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!!!

Nick, look again at the dates and make sure. We are talking about next Saturday MARCH 20th, not this saturday March 13th. :D

At least I think we are.

If you ARE thinking of the right date, then we'll have to see if everyone is up for that Sunday instead. (I can't do it this Sunday at all, but could maybe do it 3/21 if we went really early and did it at Steven's Pass)

Hey Troy, you confused us all by calling 3/20 next Saturday. :p

Okay, you're right, this weekend would be THIS saturday, so next would be NEXT sat, but it's still confusing.

WestCoastSVX
03-10-2004, 11:54 AM
I know, that happens to me a lot. :( I was always taught that "this" always referred to any day of the week you were currently in, up to and including Saturday. "Next" referred to any day of the following week, starting with the upcoming Sunday and going through the following Saturday. But this isn't the first time that wording has backfired on me.

Anyway, I DID put the actual date at least! :D

Cool. We are still trying to figure out if the 20th is actually going to work for Nick or not. Wasn't sure if he was getting his Saturdays confused. Can't have it without Nick, it will probably be his last time in the snow with us! (assuming next winter he'll be cruisin' some FL strip on his bike!)

tuzem
03-12-2004, 12:07 PM
hehe! Thanks Troy! I may be able to get that Saturday off. We'll see. What time is the trip leaving? I get off work at 3pm and I work in Bellevue... although 3pm is surely too late. For now, count me in. I'll look into not working that day. 3/20 sounds great!

Alli is kinda the expert on where we are going, she told me this info so far. Discuss. :)

"If we start in Enumclaw, we should start at 11, I was thinking we could meet up at the Safeway parking lot on the corner of Roosevelt Ave (HWY 410) and Griffin Ave (HWY 164), the address for Safeway is 152 Roosevelt Ave E Enumclaw WA 98022. It takes almost an hour to get to the pass, depending on road conditions and how much attention you pay to the speed limit (quite a
bit by Greenwater, I recommend), the road up is pretty, forested,
curvy, two-lane (mostly)."

A couple of us were talking last night and were thinking it might be cool to just do Hwy 2 up to Steven's again, and then have a little gathering at my house afterwards.

Any input?

So do we want to just meet here, I know someone was talking about riding up with someone else, so it would probably be good to leave the car here at my house rather than some parking lot in town.

What time on Saturday were you guys thinking? I'm cool for any time. It probably takes about an hour to get up to the snow.

WestCoastSVX
03-16-2004, 03:21 PM
So 11:00 at my house it looks like then. I've sent out an email to everyone that seemed interested and a few more! :D Trying to get a little RSVP from everyone so if I emailed you, if you could let me know either way that would be awesome. :)

Anyone else interested, this should be a fun time! Drop me an email or PM and I'll get you the directions and stuff.

Don't let me throw a wrench into your cogs, but it sounds like everyone, except maybe tuzem, has pretty much decided that Saturday is a good day. So, this will take place on Saturday the 20th?

I was somewhat interested in going (depending on where and the amount of snow promised) and may also be able to get another fellow to go (who very recently purchased an SVX.) The only problem is that Saturday is definitely a no-go for both of us. In fact, Saturday generally sucks for me every weekend, but Sunday is fine.

Anyway, if anybody has some last-minute thoughts on this, let me know. Also, there doesn't appear to be any clear starting point, destination, or schedule. If this doesn't horribly affect anyone... Well, speak up.

Alycone
03-17-2004, 11:21 PM
I'm fine with Sunday, there's probably less traffic, although it's a little late to change the date. We could always plan on another trip in a few weeks. What area of the Puget Sound are you in?

UberRoo
03-18-2004, 03:15 AM
There wasn't a lot of public discussion about this trip. It's not clear in the forum that this is even going to happen, let alone what the destination is. Anyway, carry on. I'll keep my radar going for another event. I'm near Bremerton.

Alycone
03-18-2004, 04:54 AM
Yeah, we usually discuss the meets in the NW forum, although with the big meets MacGyver will usually post a message in the "upcoming meets forum" but no one seems to want to discuss them there, so it ends up being more of an FYI. I guess we figure that meets are a local thing (except for the huge ones, like the West coast show or Reno/Tahoe) so we'll talk about them locally. The moderators get grumpy if we try to post in "general babble". It's public--if nonlocals are curious about what we're up to, they're free to look in our forum and join our discussions. I think planning/discussing meets makes up the bulk of local forums' content.

So, as far as public discussion for this meet, this thread is basically it. There hasn't really been any behind-the-scenes planning on this one. This snow thing, like our occasional dinners or bar meets, aren't really considered meets, they're just minimeets or us hanging out, so we don't try too hard to recruit for them.

The destination is Highway 2, driving until we find snow to play in (probably a little past the ski place), which we expect to take about an hour from Monroe. That was decided in this thread, although it took us a while to decide between HWY 2 and 410.

If you want to get on the email list for local events, you can send an email or PM to MacGyver and check out the local web page (listed in MacGyver's signature):
http://www.nwsvx.com/

I'm fine for switching to Sunday, but people with more of a life than me might not be able to this close to the weekend.

Wow, that was a really long post. :)

WestCoastSVX
03-18-2004, 10:12 AM
Well said Aly! :)

Yeah, we pretty much stick to this northwest forum for all our discussions of meets and even most of the formal announcements. Just seems our particular group doesn't look in the Upcoming Meets section, and we aren't supposed to post meets in babble, so this forum serves us well. So keep an eye on it. :)

As for the planning of this particular snow meet, it is basically one of the on-the-fly "informal" types of mini-meets some of our group occasionally puts together. Like last Friday night a few got together for dinner. This one was in the works a little longer, but still is just kinda an informal gathering with no guarantees as to what will happen, no big announcements, etc. All are welcome of course, but like Aly said, we don't "push" these meets.

On the other hand, the "big" meets happen once every couple months, maybe once a month in the summer. These are the ones that you will see talk about months in advance so you can put them on your calendar, these are the ones that are "officially" sanctioned by Northwest SVX and will appear on the website (http://www.nwsvx.com). These are also the ones you will get direct email updates and invites to if you sign up as a member of Northwest SVX. (http://www.nwsvx.com/membership.html)

As for this meet, we just kinda asked what date would work best and from everyone that initially expressed interest it just seemed like Saturday would be best. We settled on this day when we decided we would hang out a bit that evening after the meet and Saturday night is more favorable than Sunday night for that. There has also been a poll that has been "stickied" at the top of this forum for over a month asking which days worked best for meets and "prefer Saturday" won out, so that will probably always be in our minds when organizing the meets. But there will always be inquiries for the big meets to find the best dates, so getting involved in the process will assure a date that works for as many as possible.

On the good side, it is supposed to snow 20" in the next 24 hours up there and the snow level is dropping too! Should be great!

I'm jealous, my car needs new shoes (actually, I think the anatomical term for tires should be feet), but I think I'll wait 'til May.

Great, I've got the song "Let it snow let it snow let it snow...." going through my head and those are the only words I know.

Earl -

To quote one of my favorite movies: "You wouldn't have liked it, dad, there were rats (mud)." :D

I have to admit I'm glad I didn't take my car, but am grateful for those that did - it was a blast! Gargoyle is an awesome rally driver, riden shotgun with him was almost as fun as driving my SVX. :)
