The interesting thing about that thread was how all the participants so far have 80's Brats and GL wagons, kinda the Subie off-road non-rally types. No offense to Imprezzas, but it is kinda a cool change of pace to see a Subaru site (besides here) where every member doesn't have a WRX or RS modded for Rally X or street racing. :)

Seeing those pics and reading their profiles makes me really miss my 88 GL-10 though. :( For the little I got for it on trade for the SVX, I just as well should have kept it around. The SVX would have a lot less camping and Home Depot mileage on it if I had. :D

Does this show get strong attendance?

unfortunately, the old PNWSEC site is gone (and with it the pics of all the cars at the 2003 WCSS on Whidbey Island) but from memory i'm guessing there were about 50 - 60 Subarus of all kinds.

Hmm. Not that many cars, but the location is great, especially for me. Any place that's withing a 2 hr drive is great for me. Being Hood River makes it even better.

This show has been around 5 years or so and has varied in size, always a pretty decent size considering it is strictly Subarus and if you think about it, most Subarus in general out there are ma and pop type cars. The people that generally are drawn to this kind of thing are members of smaller Subaru "niche" clubs, like the WRXes and other rice/rally Imprezzas, the old school Subie off-roaders, and us. :D

I've kept an eye on this show the last several years, just never been able to actually attend for various reasons. But I understand the first couple of years they had 2-3 SVXes enter (actually even had 2 SVX classes, modded and stock, back then), and then the last couple years only 1 SVX has entered each year (taking home the 1 SVX best of show trophy). With that record it was probably looking to soon eliminate the class all together and if an SVX did happen to show it would be lumped in with the "classics" category or whatever they have.

In the past the show had always been put on by PNWSEC, Jamie "Subiegal" Thomas' club, but that club has now folded. But looks like the show will go on, although this year there are some new people in charge of organizing it. So it may be interesting to see what happens, how many attend, etc. As I said in my first post, it is interesting to note that all those involved in the thread so far are owners of the old 80's Subaru's, most of them modded for off-roading use. I understand these are also the guys in charge of putting on the event this year. Jamie is a rally X driver and the majority of PNWSEC were Imprezza types, so it is an interesting change in leadership for the event. I'm just babbling though, I think I have been around this little Subaru world too long. :)

Hello. I'm one of the two main planners for WCSS6. Nice to meet you all.
We would like to make everybody feel welcome.

I can answer any questions you may have, but for starters, I'll give you all some heads up first.

Does this show get strong attendance?
Yes, the last show actually numbered over 90 at the 03 show, the same with the 3 previous years. We expect twice that this year.

In the past the show had always been put on by PNWSEC, Jamie "Subiegal" Thomas' club, but that club has now folded. Jamie can't spare the time with work, family, and Pro Rally, so Ken and I stepped forward. We have experience putting together gatherings with the old school offroad crowd, so figured we'd give it a shot. We both Rally X, so we know the folks at the SCCA's Oregon Rally Group. I've been involved in Imprezas for a while now, so know a few from that crowd. Ken has a few legacys as well as his offroader, so is involved with the Newer Gen Board on the USMB.

Please feel free to fire away with questions and suggestions. We'd love to have some SVXs!! Subaru is a Subaru is a Subaru. . .

And I'll do my best to work wtih you all to get you to show up in August. :)

Although I may not visit this site very often, I tagged the "email notification" button so that I'll know if anyone replies to this thread.

Looking forward to meeting you. In my 4 or so years of being involved with Soobs, I've had a chance to meet well over a hundred Soob enthusiasts of all kinds. From the lowley 360 all the way to the newest STI.

A buddy of mine has an SVX, so I'm a little familiar with them too. :D

We'll keep the event fresh in people's minds around here and I'm sure you should get a few SVXes down there in August. :)

A little more info reguarding the weekend. This from a big wig at HR.

2 additions From the Hood River Fairgrounds.
Camping on the grounds a couple of days on either side of the weekend
is fine. I have contacted Discover Bikes and they are willing to do a
mountainbike ride up Gillhouley Rd. where the Mt. Hood Rally occurred
last October. Pics are available at www.pdxsports.com Tentatively, a 2 hour
ride with bikes furnished at 10am to noon or thereabouts on Saturday.
Cost is being worked out but will be very reasonable or I will get sponsors to make it so. (Discover Bikes owner is a (Subaru) owner.)

Ken, the other organizer of the West Coast Subaru Show, met up with us at our friday nite mini-meet, specifically to invite all the members of Northwest SVX to Hood River this August. Get this: Ken drove up from Buckley to meetup with us in Bellevue, gave us quite a a lot of information about their plans for what promises to be a first-class event, left us to go to work (a 2nd shift guy) and is leaving after work saturday morning to go to Hood River to meet with people from the Hood River fairgrounds and the City of Hood River to work on plans for the WCSS!

The man is *commited* to this!

This will be a true West Coast event, not just Washington or Oregon, and will have cars representing the Subaru universe, which of course includes the SVX. Ken says they'll even be members of the Subaru 360 clubs (yes, plural!), and here's a trivia question for you: what is a Subaru Rabbit?!? You'll find out at the show!

The show and shine will be on Saturday and we want to show as many great SVX's as possible.

Ken & Eric will be posting a lot more new information soon and you can expect to see downloadable flyers detailing all the activities that you'll be able to take part in over the three days of the show. There will also be additional posts to the members of NWSVX to make our plans.

What Ken and Eric are looking for from NWSVX is our commitment to represent the SVX at the show. Mark your calendars now and join the SVX Tour to Hood River.

Location: Hood River Oregon, HR county fairgrounds.
Date: August 27th-29th, 2004

Yeah if you are watching Ken, it was cool of you to come up and meet us like that. We really appreciate how you and Eric are keeping us informed about the show and making us feel so welcome.

I'm serious about the invite to our Spring Classic too, if a couple of you guys are bored 5/1 come on up and join us! :)

I so enjoyed hanging out with everyone. I am glad that you too are getting excited about the show.

We met with the fairgrounds folks and I am very pleased with the results. We will take a couple of days to digest all the info we received and then an "Official" post will appear across the internet. This is going to be an event that will be remembered and talked about for years to come. We already have a few big sponsors on board. If you have any ideas or suggestions for vendors or suppliers that would cater to your needs please let me or Eric know.

Thanks again for the hospitality. I felt very welcome and comfortable with you guys. I hope you felt the same.

Hey Ken, good to see you got your log-in to work here finally.

Sounds like great news with the fairgrounds, we will eagerly await the "official" announcements. :)

I will email you guys a couple ideas on sponsors that maybe we can work together to get involved.
