View Full Version : Northwest SVX Annual Awards Banquet

NorthwestSVX
01-09-2004, 11:11 AM
The 2003 Northwest SVX Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 2004. We will be meeting for dinner at the Rome Restaurant in Arlington, WA, starting at 5:30pm. Those of you that attended the Fall Colors Tour in November will remember our lunch stop at the Rome and the great service and facilities we had there.

This event is open to anyone interested, whether you have attended any of our events in the past or not. Family and friends are welcome.

The main purpose of the event is to just get together and have a social gathering, this is the only "official" event we have planned for the winter months. Knowing our group, a great time will be had by all and the family feeling will continue to grow. :) We will also be handing out some awards based on some of the more memorable moments of 2003. ;)

Because of the special arrangements we are making with the restaurant, this time it is ESSENTIAL that everyone RSVP. The sooner the better. :)

Feel free to comment, but please copy and paste the sign up list at the bottom of your post so we can keep it going. Thanks!

Nice to see the list keep growing! There will be directions posted soon and probably PMed to everyone on the list too. :)

Also to everyone that PMed me last night and got a message that my inbox was full, go ahead and try again, I cleaned it. Sorry about that!

Go ahead and continue to edit the list if anything changes, I'm sure the restaurant will appreciate the most accurate count we can give, even up to the day before. This is gonna be fun! :)

Hello Troy, we are planning to come but would also like to arrange for a night nearby. Can you give us the Number for the Restaurant so I can call them and ask for a nearby hotel.
I'd prefer to stagger to the hotel than drive home.

Good question Chris, I can even think of a few "locals" that should probably look into staggering to a hotel rather than their cars. :D :D Just kidding...

Anyway, here's the number for the restaurant 360-435-1660

If for some reason they don't know what is in their own town, let me know and I can help you find something close since I know where the place is in relation to most of the stuff around there.

I called the restaurant and they said the closest Hotel was off the exit to Arlington. But the guy I spoke to didn't know what it was called. So Troy, we await your recommendations:D

Thanks, Jim!

I lived in Arlington 20 years and am up there all the time to see family. The Arlington Motor Inn (1st on the list) is definitely the closest. You will pass it when you get off I-5 on the way to the restaurant. It's about 4 miles away. Not the fanciest place, but convenient and I think all of the ones on the list are decent - no roach motels. It also has a couple restaurants right next to it. This is the one the guy at the restaurant was talking about.

The other three are all down by Smokey Point, the next exit 2 miles south of the Arlington exit. Of the 4 on the list, the Hawthorn Inn is probably the "nicest" and most expensive, but it will still be a far cry from the Wild Iris Inn that I recommended to you guys last year. ;)

If you are just looking for the closest place to crash for the night (hopefully not literally), I'd go with the Motor Inn. I was really hoping that there would have been some little historic hotel right there in the old part of town where the Rome is.

Here's the driving directions to get to the restaurant:

No matter where you are coming from, the easiest and quickest way to get there will be to get on Interstate 5, North or South (depending). The exit you will take off I-5 is Exit 208 (should also say Arlington, Hwy 530).

Once you exit, you will be taking WA-530 East towards Arlington.
Follow the highway 4 miles until you coming into town at the top of a long gradual hill. Go through the stoplight and stay straight on the roundabout.

Just after the roundabout you will be taking a right onto N. Olympic.

Once you are on Olympic, you will go through one 4-way stop, and then you will see the Rome Restaurant on the left side of the street.

There is a parking lot to the side of the restaurant, and also parallel parking on both sides of the street. If for some reason there is no parking to be found anywhere near there, there is a very large gravel parking lot located a few blocks down on the right (where we all parked for the lunch stop at Fall Colors). Hopefully we will all be able to park close to the Rome though. :)

Once you walk in the restaurant, if someone doesn't already direct you, our room will be on the immediate left adjacent to the lounge.

At this point we are most likely going to stay at the Hawthorne.
www.hotels.com shows a rate of $89, which isn't too bad, but we have not reserved.
If anybody else plans to stay the night, perhaps at the Hawthorne, let me know and perhaps they'll give us a deal, I don't think they will, but I will ask.

This really is going to be a great event so don't be afraid to attend! :) We've put a ton of effort into this one to make it a memorable night. We have several event sponsors that have provided us with some awards we think everyone will enjoy. And rest assured, everyone that attends will get at least something, even if they don't necessarily win an award. :)

As usual, any questions on anything at all, let me know.

Prior commitments have arisen and made it impossible to attend.

I have a mini meet everytime I go to work, there's another pearlie at my office, my locker has pics.

Actually, we didn't have a meet today, he wasn't in.

But since you mention it, I think it makes sense to have a Burnaby Meet. CAN$ are cheap as borsche

Closer to the summer will be nice, and we will drive to Cypress Mountain: www.cypressmountain.com or Grouse mountain: www.grousemountain.com and take the gondola to the restaraunt on top, awesome view of Vancouver.

Summer is very nice up there. only about a 20 minute drive from Burnaby.

WestCoastSVX
01-27-2004, 11:09 AM
Excellent idea!

It is indeed very nice up that way in the summer. I went up the Grouse Mountain gondola probably like 15 years ago and it was an awesome view! At that time, we actually could see the tall buildings in Seattle from up there with binoculars (might be too much pollution these days). If I remember right, we took the big gondola all the way up to where the restaurant was, and then from there took a little chair lift up even higher.

Also went to the Capilano Suspension bridge that day, kinda spooky if you don't like heights. :D

OK, so we want a Canada Meet.
Capilano suspention bridge and Grouse Mountain Gondola/Restarant are very close, so it'll be a good all day event.
Westwood racetrack doesn't ring a bell though. I'll need to look that one up.

First of all is the timeframe?
Secondly, time of Day?
thirdly, itinerary? Capilano Bridge, then to grouse for a ride up, and lunch or dinner, nightime is the best view, only if weather cooperates.
ANy idea?

Sorry I couldn't make the awards dinner, sounds like it was a lot of fun. I'm still scheduled to work till the end of next week. Hopefully I will get some time off soon... As for the Canada meet, thumbs up to CDG for taking the ball and running with it. On another note, WESTWOOD RACETRACK does not exist anymore. They closed it and developed the land, many, many years ago. BUT, We do have an awesome technical race track located in Mission. It is an actual full meal deal, used by several different racing leagues (scca, etc...) I have raced on it and it is very technical in nature, and extremly hard on brakes. It was an awesome experience though!!!!:D :D :D

Maybe this could be an option, or tie this in with a two day drivers' training course, which upon completion enables you to legally race. (Seattle, Portland, Calgary etc...) Just an idea.....;)

CDG

If enough people are interested we could pull together an SVX Autocross. However I'm sure many of you can look locally for one to join. They will class the SVX with the 4 door intrepid, based on weight.
for those who are not familiar:
big parking lot, we use an old airfield nearby(boundary Bay)
somebody designes the track, ( the straight away cannot be too long or speed will exceed the separate insurance coverage, liability only, mess up your car, and you're screwed)
We set up the cones,
and you drive around as quick as you can.
Of course its not quite that simple, but using the right speed and brakes, you can pull off a very respectable time without driving at all like an idiot, or wearing out your brakes and tires.

Like my friend says, you scrub my tires, you own em.

Cool to see the wheels already turning on some meet planning!

I would be up for a "sightseeing" SVX driving tour - the bridge, the mountain, food, and some nice driving roads in between. :) Maybe even find a nice place for a Saturday night stay, with the majority of us coming from out of the area, there would probably be enough to score a group rate.

The racing/autocross ideas sound fun too, but may not appeal to as many of our drivers and sounds like it would involve $$$ (don't you have to buy time at tracks, and the talk about insurance for our own autocross????).

I'll let others chime in though. :)
