As some of you may know, I am in the process of selling my beloved SVX (cry, wail) so that my partner and I (both solicitors) can move to the UK or Ireland (wow...left there in 1987, who would have thought I would be heading back)

So....does anyone here have any contact/exposure to legal practice in the Uk and able to comment as to what the market there is like; places to work etc??

Any help/thoughts/comments appreciated!

Oh...if we stay, then I'll be buying an SVX over there....Autobahn with onboard camera here we come!
:D

Hi James.

Don't have any friends in the legal bizz, but I will enquire from my English pals who are mostly in Sales, Telecomms and IT.

PM me if there is something specific you need to look at. What is your specialty area? Do you fancy London, or would somewhere less expensive to live suit you better? How long a commute are you tolerant of?

Things like that:rolleyes: :D

Joe:)

Hi Joe

Thanks for the reply - I will send you an email but essentially, Cassie and I are tossing up the UK/Ireland thing - her preference is Ireland on the basis that it will be a little less hectic cf London which would be similar to Sydney.

Her area is commerical litigation - my background is litigation (insurance) but doing a Masters in Intellectual Property, Communications and Information Technology law so would be keen for anything that would broaden my skill base.

I'll send a longer mail over the weekend

Thanks

James

PS: you do know, of course, that if we stay, I will have to buy an SVX!!:D

Yes, I know and look forward to it.

I bought my SVX to insulate me from the commute, so you are on the right track. You will be aware, I am sure, that Irish motor taxation assumes that anyone driving a car over 2 litres has "old money" or is getting a ridiculous salary, and the road tax prices are geared for millionaires.

On a more positive note, here locally in Dublin are quite a few companies with commercial profile, Towey Law comes to mind. There are a few big outfits here, and due to the amount of software companies, and advanced hardware outfits like Intel, many of them deal in Intellectual Property and copyright issues.

No doubt there would be bigger and more choice in London, but Dublin is not backwater anymore.

[There is an SVX for sale in Clonskeagh. Black with leather seats, about 103K miles, looks to be English provenance. They are asking 8K Euro, but it has sat there 6 months, probably because of the road tax issue I mentioned above. Interested??;) ]

I await your mail.

Joe:)
