I have a '93 Ann. Ed. and I am looking into making some changes to it. The first thing I'd like to do is put in larger wheels so I can fit larger brake rotors. The car sometimes feels like the brakes just can't grip enough, and that's usually not after braking enough to make me think it's a heat problem.

Anyway, I don't want to mess up the ABS in the process, so I'm looking for info on the total wheelwell clearance, location and method of wheel speed sensors, and info on caliper upgrades from an aftermarket supplier like Wilwood. Is there a new mounting bracket needed for bigger calipers over a larger rotor, or can the existing bracket adjust to fit?

So, is there one source I can find to get this stuff, or should I just post a bunch of questions here and see what happens?

.....to make me think it's a heat problem....

First off, yes there is a heat problem. Second the car is damn heavy as well. It's like stopping a muscle car, they just stop in a longer distance than most little ones. It could also be as simple as you have some really crappy pads on there. The stock ones grip well enough....no I don't have them anymore either as mine were warped. If you read a bunch up on them, you will realize that many people had severly warped rotors on their SVX's. The best idea is to go with upgraded ones.

Never tried to overside the rotors on an SVX, but I'm sure it's the same as any other car. Yes you will need to get a bracket, otherwise your rotor will have nothing to bolt to. I would guess your best bet would be Brembo http://www.brembo.com/ , for a caliper upgrade. I have no idea if they carry a line for the SVX, but it would probably be a good place to start.

I personally would skip that whole idea though. You are just getting into spending a huge amount of money, to really get no real gain out of it. I'm no denying that better calipers/bigger rotors aren't a big stopping upgrade....but I doubt you will need it.

There are plenty of aftermarket stock size rotors for the SVX. Any of these will more than stop the SVX, and you won't have to worry about the heat factor. The most common that I have heard people buying are from ART http://www.appliedrotortechnology.com/ , they go for like $400 shipped to your door (either set front or back). Many people also buy them from Motorsport Warehouse http://motorsportwarehouse.com/ , they go for $310 + shipping. I went with the ones from JC Sports http://www.jcsportsinc.com/ , they are $210 and you can get them drilled/slotted or both all for the same price. I went with both naturally. I have pics of them on my site http://www.ryanmacdonald.com if you are interested (under Sunfire/SVX then SVX how-to's).

Good luck,
Ryan

If you install steel braided lines (Kinetic Concepts), Carbon Kevlar Pads (KC), and ART Cryogenically treated sloted rotors, and flush with a good High temp fluid, you will get great results. Trust me, I did it. I stop on a damn dime now. I also rebuilt my calipers, and I used x-drilled rotors. I will replace them with ART rotors when they go.
